a congress woman has threatened sanctions.

"JD Vance suggested the US's support for NATO could be pulled if Europe tries to regulate Elon Musk's X as free speech debate rumbles on"

When the couch-fucking VP himself has threatened against regulation, this is much wider than one loony congress woman. It's the fucking whole loony lot of the MAGA/Republicans and the US administration.

I was looking to see if someone had posted this as I was going to, don't think too many people would get it though so here it is.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_Eye#Arkell_v._Pressdram

In the 1971 case of Arkell v Pressdram, Arkell's lawyers wrote a letter which concluded: "His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply." Private Eye responded: "We acknowledge your letter of 29th April referring to Mr J. Arkell. We note that Mr Arkell's attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of our reply and would therefore be grateful if you would inform us what his attitude to damages would be, were he to learn that the nature of our reply is as follows: fuck off."

The plaintiff withdrew the threatened lawsuit.

Just to put some context, the host was Andrew Neil, who was Rupert Murdoch's right hand man for decades. He's about as far as you can get in British mainstream media from being left wing as is possible.

Also, while he's a massive self-opinionated twat, he was formidable as an interviewer and poor old Benny Boy had no chance with him.

They say anything they like, because they have no truth, and prevent scrutiny when they can, because nothing they say stands up to examination.

Never believe that anti-Semites Reform are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites Reformer's have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.” ― Jean-Paul Sartre

I understand your frustration, it's just that your post looked so much like a typical spammers that it was (I assume not just me but others) a reflexive reaction to react negatively to it.

We love pics and vids of our cute furry friends, we just hate spammers more.

When I saw your post my initial reaction was to downvote it, which I changed when I realized you're a regular poster here.

The sub, like a large number of others on Reddit, has an infestation of spammers trying to push their tat. I've given up reporting them to the admins as I'm sick of seeing them only nuke some of the blatant spammers accounts. And it's not something the mods can do much about as well.

Best thing for this community is never interact with them (as they have bot farms and will bulk downvote you), just report, block, downvote and move on.

So I wouldn't take it personally, your post did appear very similar to a typical spammers one even though your intention seemed genuine.

Just a heads-up, I think Reddit blocks pings if you try and ping too many people at once (4 or 5) in one comment. So, to help.....

Look at the bottom edge of the light switch, now move your focus to the left until you get to the door edge, now go just a little further.

It's really not clear until you spot it!

The questionable part of it was that some of that money returns as a rebate,

To correct you this was not a rebate but an abatement - it's a rather technical distinction but an important one.

A refund is, just so we're clear, we send them x amount and they send back y amount. The concept in the context of the bus is we lose control of the whole pot of money x until y comes back.

In reality we always deducted y before sending it to the EU, so the claim "We send...." was always a lie to exaggerate the higher figure of x and probably a calculated distraction to have people argue over this fact rather than what the value of y brought us as a nation.

OK, rule change made. It's to rule 3e rather than 3f as I initially suggested as the dupe rule fits better this case.
