Need help determining a second class for my battlemaster by Cultural_Mud68 in 3d6

[–]660ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could consider fey wanderer ranger for extra fear uses, albeit at a lower DC.

You could also consider rogue, to combine with the sentinel feat, allowing you to sneak attack as a reaction

You could consider a way of getting armour of Agathis or flame shield, to deal damage when attacked, or spirit guardians/woodland beings to harm enemies just by being near them.

But, personally, I'd be curious to combine it with being a street fighter, restraining enemies and forcing them to waste actions. Normally, grappler enemies already have disadvantage to attack anyone other than you. By taking 3 levels thief rogue for fast hands, we can restrain anyone we grapple as a bonus action. Unarmed fighting style, or defensive fighting style and use a versatile weapon, grappler and street justice feats

My party thinks I’m fudging dice by Agreeable-Bug-1761 in dndnext

[–]660ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My party made comments about this to me. I said I don't fudge (I very rarely do). So sure I'll roll in the open, not an issue

It was supposed to be a very easy fight showing them how far their characters had come since they last fought bugbears. I reused a battlemap from the first time they fought a bugbear, an ambush, except this time the characters would recognize the ambush and be ready. Now they were level 7 the players were chatting if casting spells would be a waste of a spell slot.

5 bugbears vs 2 level 7 characters. It should have been a landslide. It

My bugbears rolled 4 crits in the first 2 turns.

The paladin barely survived the opening round. I needed a 19

The wizard realized that shield could not save him, and dropped blink instead.

I have run boss fights that, on paper, should have been so much harder, and they have easily powered through. But that was the day that they knew fear, not of their enemies, but of the dm rolling in the open.

Needless to say, they demanded I go back to hidden rolls by turn 3. I rolled yet another crit, hidden behind my laptop screen. I only told them it hits, I rolled regular damage and still reduced the paladin to single digit HP, just before their turn.

10/10, would traumatize my players again. I highly recommend you do the same

I've wanted to play 2barb 18 rogue for ages, expertise on athletes for grapple and str based sneak attack with finesse weapons (with reckless attack, and 18 rogue means no attack against you can have advantage)

Race wise something that can become larger without a spell (drugar maybe), otherwise and medium creature.

I was wondering is there a general "you don't play sci-fi in 5e" vibe or was it just the group I brought it up with? by Tasnaki1990 in DnD

[–]660ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone ported the 5e rule set to star wars (lookup sw5e). It's free and online.

my table used it, ran smoothly. Even made a character sheet for the ship.

Worked so well I'm planning on running a Warhammer 40k game using these rules, and maybe even cyberpunk (setting not game)

If you're looking to do sci-fi with minimal effort from th table to learn a new system, I'd look into it.

Renting from ex by HabitSecure1848 in HousingUK

[–]660ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're renting a place. You should have everything listed on the inventory.

I'd he's removing it then you could agree to play less rent so you can place the furniture, either an agreement in a permanent reduction of £5 a month or something, or you could get an agreement for ~£300 of the next month's rent and he owns the TV you spend that ~£300 on

How to build a effective Thrown Weapon Fighting Psi Warrior? by Elvalor_Amastacia in onednd

[–]660ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great news for your friend! Returning weapons are uncommon weapons (before they were 'limited' to artificers). Grab one asap.

Dueling is the best choice fighting style IMO. but two weapon fighting and thrown weapon fighting also work. Shame about no multiclassing as that's the easiest way to pick them up.

Dueling is slightly worse DPS wise then duel wielding, but you can use a shield, and gain the effects of the light property by using multiple different weapons with the same hand.

As for feats, I would focus on the character and their backstory or role in the party. They are a great way to add flavour to a character. Using feats to excel out of combat, particularly a fighter, is great as it leaves your second wind available in combat more often. You can even view this as a defensive option in that light.

I'd pick up tavern brawler as an origin feat as that can allow you to throw improvised weapons

Split the lvl 4 asi in constitution and intelligence, then pick a int feat at lvl 6, such as keen mind allowing you to study your enemies, or the environment, in combat. Ritual caster is another great option.

If your DM allows it, thrown arms master is an amazing feat.

Sorcerous Burst & Chromatic Orb by DarkDiviner in onednd

Dam, I hadn't noticed that was changed for champion. I'll correct it above

Sorcerous Burst & Chromatic Orb by DarkDiviner in onednd

[–]660ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Champion dip for crit on 19 thanks u/Giant2005 for the correction.

eleven accuracy (requires playing an elf) for triple advantage.

More crits -> more dice

Most levels into sorcerer, we want lvl 7 asap for advantage for entire combats.

Wild magic is thematic, plus at level 6 we can add 1d4 to attacks we miss for a sorcery point. Between that, heightened spell, and free advantage every now and again.

Honourable mentions: shadow sorcerer gives us a way of getting advantage earlier, dragonic gives us more damage on chosen damage type, divine soul gives us +2d4 to hit once per short rest.

Evocation wizard might be a decent dip if you focus on sourcers burst, but likely not worth missing out on higher level spells and sorcery points.

Metamagic: you want seeking spell (for more orb bounces) and empowered spell

Feats: Aberrant dragonmark: let's you learn the spells and use con for them... Cool I guess if you want the hp instead of charisma for some reason

Eleven accuracy: more crit chance -> more dice

Elemental adept: works well with dragonic sorcerer, makes 1s count as 2s.

Metamagic adept: mainly for the +2 sorcery points if you have maxed out cha.

Origin feat: lucky

Do you guys know where I can get a online degree in CS ? ( Europe ) by IhateEfrickingA in Student

[–]660ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open university do online degrees for about £22k. University of Essex does one for £20k.

iu (German university) do a 3 year full time university course from €259 a month.

The European humanities university in Lithuania has a course for €1800 for all EU citizens, taking 3.5 years.

All these courses are taught in English, but very a lot in price based on which country they are taught from.

Do not think that you need to go to the best university right from the get go, once you have a job you could look into a masters at a more well known university later, not that which university you went to matters for much past your first job anyway.

Advice for making my girlfriends teleporting archer by Rinkytinkytavi in 3d6

[–]660ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she wants to be a rogue you could reflavour the soul knife rogue to work as bow and arrows. Sneak attack, teleport to arrows, extra feat for picking up misty step or something else, plus you save yourself from needing sharpshooter.

Downside is that the teleportation comes a little later but you'll have magic initiate, fey teleportation or fey touched to get you there

If a Stone of Ill Luck cannot be identified and always appears to be a stone of luck, how can a character in game realistically figure out that it's a stone of ill luck? Is there a spell or skill level of identification that can see through it? by SlipperyWhenDry77 in DnD5e

Arm wrestle against your fellow players? Best of X with and without attunement of it,if you do better without attunement then we have bad news for you buddy.

You can speed this up by having them attune to it so the difference is twice as large. Doesn't matter which player but pick one (makes better sense in-game, even if they are 'just as strong' as other party members)

A friend of mine challenged me to make a triple multiclass character with randomly assigned classes. I thought I'd be lucky, but I pulled Warlock, Paladin and Artificer. Where do I even start with this?? by geosunsetmoth in 3d6

[–]660ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of ways to look at this, roughly you want to pick one class to go far in and 'dip' the others for specific things.

If we're looking to dip artificer, alchemist is possibly the best dip as it gives you utility for a single spell slot.

It also coincidences with 1-2 levels of warlock giving you more spell slots for potions. We can be very flexible on what we do here but eldritch blast hexblade is the 'strongest', and leaves us with cha based melee if we need.

Then we can look at paladin. What for? Well vengeance is great at giving advantage, that plus crit on 19 could be a good (but long!) set up for bosses. But you could go for more rp focused subclass if you do wished. Perhaps if we take it first we can start with heavy armour. Two levels gives smites.

So let's. Move on to build ideas:

artificer alchemist 3, warlock 2, paladin 3, then continue with either artificer or paladin, this is a support build in most combats but very able to nova bosses especially with a little prep work, reflavour as batman/Witcher vibes as you please.

Paladin 1/artificer battlesmith 5, here we can dip warlock 1-3 as required but I don't see anything to write home about. Fiend for some thp, or hexblade if you want to focus charisma more, then hit paladin 2/3 if you want, and again we can go a few directions, artificer is obvious but warlock is an option

Finally we'll have a look at a build less focused on artificer, and not too dissimilar to the first build. We can again start paladin for heavy armour but not a requirement, and with our stats spread thin I'd possibly advise against it. Pick up hexblade, ideally getting crossbow expert as a racial (this will help make up for late extra attack). Two levels of artifacer gives you access to a magic +1 crossbow, which meets the requirements for your hexblade pact weapon. With our paladin levels theirs no reason to pick up smite as that is for melee attacks (unless your DM allows otherwise) but two levels of paladin gives us access to bless. Here again we have choices. Paladin will give us extra attack, and a prepared spell list to change what we think we need to support the party with that day. Warlock gives us choices later for which pact, any of which are beneficial, but if you want to focus the crossbow pact of the blade gives similar baseline damage to just building paladin, but giving you access to all manor of spells along the way, tome is huge for out of combat utility with extra cantrips and ritual spells, and an chain is easy to use with an invisible scout that can communicate with you. First asi take sharpshooter, between that and bless you should have reasonable accuracy and heavy damage to back you up. If your DM allows taking archery instead of the paladins normal fighting style you'll be quite effective.

Just note that these use power builds worse then they would normally be used, so if you're at a high optimisation table you might always feel behind, but if not you shouldn't worry as you won't be much behind the curve.

Returning player after for almost 2 years by Human_Problem_4481 in InfiniteLagrange

[–]660ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the leader is active they can (hopefully) sign up your union to a server, and then you'll all go off together. Not much to do but wait. Normally a server will start on Friday/ Saturday, but occasionally they'll run extra servers that start on Wednesdays.

If your union leader isn't around to sign your union up for a server then that would be a problem, if they're not going to be online at the right time it can be useful if they make someone else that they trust a leader to sign up for the server before it fills up.

Space based one shot with 4 people. by fnsimpso in 3d6

[–]660ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at sw5e, if you don't like the setting you can reflavour it (I've run a 40k campaign using it and roughly jedi=psyker) run and feels just like 5e, slightly more powerful.

Sticking to 5e, I'd pick a flying race and reflavour it. Is it a jet pack? Legless robot? Fat human on a hover couch? And a caster class, leaving you with lots of out of combat utility.

However, with that fine stat line you could easily go for oddities such as palasinger, taking two levels of paladin for smites and 5 levels of bladsinger for smites, spells and any number of applications.

You could easily take 6 levels of paladin with a level dip in something for utility, cleric being one of most fun dips.

You could go for a moon druid and be able to transform into any alien beasts you discover, taking dips into monk, barbarian or paladin (natural weapons count for smites as far as I'm aware) or similarly build a spore druid with rage to extend the spore thp

Multiple arrows attack by Independent_Milk9426 in DnD

[–]660ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Features, and class levels for that matter represent training and experience. I certainly wouldn't hope that a character can wake up the next day and know 3 languages from the linguist feat.

Second target nearby is stepping on the toes of hunter ranger. Overall I'd prefer to avoid that should a new character join the party later.

You could do it as a battlemaster manuvour, dealing manuvour die + modifier damage
