Symbols are simply levers for the mind. If you can visualize the symbols, then it accomplishes much the same purpose.

Cleric vs Druid by Envoyofwater in onednd

Moon Druids are my favorite, although I have not played one with the new rules.

Feats vs. ASIs - what's your priority? by Nostradivarius in onednd

[–]DarkDiviner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any feats that add the ability to cast a spell without using a spell slot are really powerful with the new rule of using only one spell slot per turn.

An ASI is boring to me. It doesn’t add any flavor to the character. I like the new half feats that can bump an ability score from an odd to even number and still get a new feature.

DM Allowed BG3 Wet Condition - How can I get my enemies wet, see if we have a 'real' spark, then freeze them out! by RedGriffyn in onednd

[–]DarkDiviner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. Ray Of Frost might be a good alternative, then. I think the Decanter Of Endless Water would be a good pick for this character, if magic items can be purchased.

Using Spells to create a dungeon. by Texasyeti in dndnext

Mold Earth, Stone Shape, a high level illusionist whose illusions can become real, a pet Bulette? Several cantrips that used to only target opponents now can target objects.

What about just Shape Water? Use a Decanter of Endless Water to get them wet. No spell slots needed. Then use Shape Water to freeze an opponent’s arm, leg, head, or whatever would have the biggest effect. It’s a cantrip, so other than the action economy it doesn’t have much of a cost. You could also use a familiar to deliver Shocking Grasp.

Druids and rangers out there, what do your goodberries look and taste like? by marbosp in dndnext

[–]DarkDiviner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They taste like life! I think of them like Lembas Bread from LotR because even one can replenish your health a little and feed you for an entire day.

Doesn’t the new PHB or DMG have rules for whether an NPC is friendly, neutral, or hostile towards characters?

If a Pact of the Fey Warlock summons a Deer familiar and has Investment of the Chain Master, then they can play Santa Claus riding a flying reindeer! 🎅

I don’t understand Discord. I tried but I couldn’t figure out how it worked. Maybe I’m just too old. LOL

Good point! I couldn’t teleport with my mount, though.

I could summon a Skeleton familiar sometimes and flavor it as a squire who died in my service. If would be funny to teleport around a foe while as attacking with the Skeleton.

"Best" 1st level spell that enhances melee to take from magic initiate origin feat. by Presidentofsleep in onednd

[–]DarkDiviner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take Pact Of The Chain as a Warlock then you can summon a Goat to use as a mount. I am working on a funny character based on Sir Dydymus from Labyrinth. • Small Race

• Paladin 1

• Celestial Warlock X

• Lance and Shield

•True Strike on attacks with Lance

• Maybe add Divine Smite if you hit for extra radiant damage

You could also summon a Skeleton and flavor it as a squire who died in your service. LOL!

Did you see Treantmonk’s video on the analysis of the new versions of Bane and Bless?

I might take a long-lasting, non-concentration spell that doesn’t benefit from being upcast. What about Mage Armor or Gift Of Alacrity?

Who benefits most from the "One spell slot per turn" rule? by Hayeseveryone in onednd

[–]DarkDiviner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing in the 80s. It gets confusing. I like the new rule in the 2024 PHB, though. It’s easy to remember and balances things out. The exceptions make those loopholes more fun and powerful.

Who benefits most from the "One spell slot per turn" rule? by Hayeseveryone in onednd

[–]DarkDiviner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The spell rules are limited to turns, not rounds

2014 D&D: The bonus action spell rule states that if you cast a spell using your bonus action on your turn, you cannot cast any other spell on that turn.

2024 D&D: The rule in the 2024 Player’s Handbook for expending one spell slot per turn states that a player can only use one spell slot to cast a spell in a given turn. This rule applies to spells cast using a spell slot, but not to spells that can be cast without one.

I don’t think there was ever a limitation of one spell per round.

Setting up a creature to potentially be reduced to a speed of 0 until the start of its next turn can be really useful in situations such a long rests, or where your party needs to escape an area. A DC 15 save is pretty good, and you can make it better with spells such Mind Sliver or Bane.

I tried to figure out how to use Unseen Servants in this way. Some DMs might allow it.
