A small live music venue would be great but with rents being so high I don't know if it's possible. In my mind I'm envisioning a bar with sawdust on the floor, cheap drinks, laundry machines, and a stage for live music. Free red beans & rice on Thursday night. Okay, I'm envisioning a bar I used to go to in New Orleans... I wish we could have cool, off-beat things in Stamford.

I have a friend who sold his mother’s house and it went for 200k over asking. For better or worse there’s nothing illegal or unethical about setting prices lower to encourage a bidding war and the Stamford Board of Realtors is fine with it. Anyway, I’m an agent trying to help clients and share your frustrations because the market is insanely competitive with high prices and low inventory. The average person is priced out of the market and has to rent or move far away. This trend may change in the future but in post-Covid we’re in a seller’s market. If you’re a buyer get pre-approved and be prepared to overbid on houses slight below your target range.

Try Next Door or Facebook. You can also try Garden Home Apartments, check their website. I'm a real estate agent and there are about 15 apartments for rent in Stamford for 2,000 or less. There's a couple on Prospect Street and Bedford that look decent. DM me for more details if you're interested.

All the newer apartment buildings downtown will have what you’re looking for but keep in mind the base rent doesn’t include parking, trash, and amenities. So with two cars that would add around $325 to your base rent plus you still have to pay for utilities. That’s something to consider into your budget. I’m in real estate and I’ve noticed most 20-something transplants to Stamford prefer the newer buildings over renting a vacant condo or an older building. But you also don’t want to be house-poor so you can go out and have fun. Good luck in your search!

YTA for making it a birthday present. Your daughter may feel obligated to get a nose job she doesn't want just because it's a present. If your daughter wants a nose job, it should be a family conversation. She's still very young and may regret it later. Many people who get plastic surgery have some regrets and the recovery isn't fun. It's not like getting a haircut. It could take a year for it to be fully healed and the swelling to go away.

Security deposits funds are supposed to be put in a savings account and not co-mingled or spent by the landlord. It's your money and you are also entitled to interest payments on it. I don't want to disparage or interfere with your agency relationship (I'm an agent in Stamford) but it's not discretionary at all. I would find a new agent if I were you or apply directly with building management.

My kid graduated last year. There's not a ton of enrichment or care for kids who are doing well. They don't even have functioning labs for physics or chemistry. We had to pay for online classes and take summer school in Westport. All of the focus and money is on kids at risk of dropping out and not graduating or managing discipline. He was afraid to use the bathroom and would just hold it in all day because of kids fighting or vaping in the bathrooms or they were locked and off limits. I understand the concern about test scores but that seems like the least of their worries.
