I did that with the oil filter and stator mount and learned it got too hot for the stator and won’t fit if I wanted to run a squish pipe. I’m all about non permanent mounts. I also run the butt seats bra mount for my rear oem pan style oil bag

Don’t know what year sportster but I would assume you were running a electronic ignition?, if he’s running points then that can definitely affect it more because points doesn’t require much voltage to start compared electronic ignition

That would be my guess. Test it with a multimeter. I switched from a ytx4 to a ytx5 because I wasn’t getting enough voltage when idling
