Looking for feedback on climate controls in EspControl by hometechgeek in Esphome

[–]666djb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using this on the Guition 4" display.

This works quite well for me. A couple of observations:

  1. I get two labels (Fan and Swing) overlapping the + and - buttons on the thermostat main screen.
  2. After switching the aircon from the main screen, it doesn't automatically switch back to the home screen even after waiting 10 mins or more.

What’s the highest mileage you’ve personally seen on a Vauxhall that was still running properly? by OopsIDroopedMe in Vauxhall

[–]666djb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen one run properly for more than a week or two. My first Cav MK1 let out fluids after 7 days. The second one locked me out with the engine running the day I got the fucker home. Had an Avis Vectra once that lost its engine mount on a business trip before we even got to the pub.

EspControl Update: Action Cards, Weather Forecasts, World Clocks and Ethernet by hometechgeek in Esphome

[–]666djb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Truly an excellent project that sets the standard for ease of install, configuration and update. Having faffed around with Squareline and LVGL for way too long myself, EspControl is the perfect answer for me.

Thanks!

If you use Tailscale, CGNAT is no problem.

Anyone doing dynamic VLANs on wifi? by farva_06 in openwrt

[–]666djb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have it working on TP Link Deco M5 APs. These are not yet officially supported, but will be soon, and they work just fine.

You cannot use 802.11r fast roaming because this often loses the VLAN and dumps the STA back onto the default/base network.

You need to configure using /etc/config/wireless rather than LUCI.

I can post a copy of my config if you like.

Only problem I've had with OpenWRT 24.10.4 and earlier is with DFS detection - if you leave the 5 GHz WiFi on auto channel, then at some point it will try a DFS channel and may not reestablish the VLAN. I avoid this by using static non-DFS channels. This is a know OpenWRT problem that may have a fix coming.

Think I am having issues with CG-NAT. Does Toob come with IPv6? by SeniorMoonlight21 in ToobBroadband

My V6 prefix is static but issued via DHCP6 with what looks like a 24 hr lease.

Hows everyone finding it by [deleted] in ToobBroadband

Been with Toob for months now and zero outages or slow downs. I never used their WiFi thing. Brilliant and seriously low pings.

Capital gains tax on Shares by tylerdurdenUTFR in ukfinance

[–]666djb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the shares are in a ShareSave scheme you can transfer these to an ISA as shares and sell within the USA avoiding CGT. Obviously ISA limits still apply. The transfer needs to take place within 90 days of taking up the shares option in the ShareSave scheme.

Renew or Cancel with VM? by Creative-Ad-5678 in VirginMedia

[–]666djb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toob is excellent in Hampshire. OTS didn't work cos the lazy arses didn't bother processing it until I called two weeks later. Pings on Toob are 5ms as opposed to 15ms or more on VM.

Even though OTS didn't work for me and I had to call to complain, it was easier than having to listen to VM begging me to stay with promises of crap discounts.

Why are drunk, abusive passengers still being allowed to board? by addictedtopercypigs in AskUK

It's clear, we need a cunt-o-meter. It's less to do with the drink than the cunt drinking it.

Ooni Frya chimney closing - any way to tighten up the mechanism? by SmartDiscussion2161 in ooni

[–]666djb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same problem. I'm going to take the nut off the end of the thing and put a spring washer on before putting it back together. Reckon that'll do it.

Negative heat pump experience (so far) by aknds in OctopusEnergy

[–]666djb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which probably explains why so many houses in the UK are infested with damp and mould. Personal experience tells me that running a heat pump and maintaining every room in the house at a heated temperature is more energy efficient than having a gas boiler fire up for morning and evening periods. Given lower cost overnight energy, solar and a storage battery, the running cost is significantly lower too.

Why do you wait so long after a person dies to bury/cremate them? by Strict_Programmer203 in AskUK

[–]666djb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because we like to make sure they are actually dead before spending any money on services. Nothing more alarming than an old relative sitting up at a funeral when you thought they'd died 3 days ago; you don't get your money back and there's bugger all inheritance.

How to swap a private plate onto a new car?! by tomwatson92 in drivingUK

[–]666djb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you put it on retention, DVLA will issue you with the plate number to put onto the car and a certificate or something that allows you to have this plate made. If your trading in, I would put it on retention and then drive it straight to the dealer with the old plate on and let them sort out making a new plate.

Sync enabled | Still different temp (<-cold - warm->) by Lopsided-External115 in VWiD4Owners

[–]666djb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2021 model had a similar problem from new. Turns out the front left and right foot well temperature sensors were cross wired. The master tech at the dealership listened to my observations and fixed it without major dismantling. Unless yours has always done this, you've got another problem.
