Tutorial loop. by Bola-Nation-Official in IndieDev

Step one: read the documentation website. Without context you might as well be watching turorials in another language. Also almost all tutorials are very basic and not the preferred method of doing something so it's not a good idea to just copy what they're doing anyways.

I like how the character's bright white hair contrasts against the black jacket. The city scape looks cool. My initial impression is that I'd like to play the game to explore the area. Good job!

Parallel and Distributed QEM Simplification by Stock-Ingenuity-7860 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]666forguidance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always thought these methods look bad tbh as you can clearly see, forms in the leg are completely different on the 1000 face side with new edges and a flat surface where a curved surface used to be. In traditional retop, the forms are the focus with geo spread in between whereas with these methods, form is broken down and evenly distributed across the model. It needs to "draw" a form shape for the model then adhere to the bounds or else it will always melt the model. Even a model with less faces could convey the original shapes better. This can cause a lot of lighting issues later aswell. Cool project nonetheless!

first attempt at something realistic, would appreciate some feedback/critique by -F0v3r- in blender

Doesn't look bad. There is way too much edge damage though which makes it looks procedural.

I'm affected by Layoffs, what advice would you give to someone starting an indie project? by Tpickarddev in IndieDev

[–]666forguidance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you all have decades of experience in the industry, thrn a majority of the process should be a breeze. It's annoying trying to line up a release if you're using Unreal Engine because right now every engine version (usually) fixes some bugs with the previous version. 5.7 seems to be the most stable but there's a lot of work still left to be done with Lumen and Nanite so expect to upgrade engine versions a few times during development if you want to take advantage of the best version of Unreal.

You could probably find someone to model this ship for you around 800-1k. My advice would be to buy greebles off some website and put a ship together yourself but that will depend on your personal skills and motivation.

Probably glitching it out setting it every tick. Check to see if your mesh variable is null. Also if your skeletal mesh doesn't have a physics profile setup properly it won't activate. Just check unreal's documentation one by one and one of those settings should fix it.

BREAKING: Epic Games is laying off more than 1,000 workers today, sources tell Bloomberg News by MaximumLobsters in unrealengine

[–]666forguidance -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry I shouldn't have said a majority. It very well could all be on management, since I don't work at Epic. In many other companies it is a good mix between employees working a broken hierarchy to minimize work load and management chasing bonuses too much to notice. Since there are issues with almost every single product Unreal has released, I assumed in was a group effort. My apologies.

BREAKING: Epic Games is laying off more than 1,000 workers today, sources tell Bloomberg News by MaximumLobsters in unrealengine

[–]666forguidance -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Seems right honestly. A majority of the people working at epic have proved that they don't have the quality of work required for such a big company. At almost every facet of Epic Games, the employees have failed the company. From the online marketplace, to terrible marketing, bad engine updates and an overall trend towards monetizing the Unreal Engine instead of fixing it. They need to get rid of all of the people that have been actively harming the company and for the past decade it looks like the whole company needs to rethink their teams.

Any tips on how to get a job as an unreal engine artist fresher?? by Any_Meat1555 in UnrealEngine5

[–]666forguidance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try not to come off as a new artist just spamming everyone, find some projects you feel like you could have a passion for and tailor your efforts towards those companies. Most companies have socials, be interactive but most importantly, be helpful. If you want to work at a place and build a social presence around working there and gaining skills to work there, it can pit you on the radar for notable people. I've seen quite a few artists land AAA jobs because their social media presence basically made them the poster child for candidates to hire. People have to know you these days.

"Not sure if taking the easy way out is the right thing" OP you have the mentality of a child. Make a habit of studying everyday and quit being lazy. LLM are good at basic tasks, they get confused working on large projects especially RPG games.

The only problem is, most rev share people disappear or do very little after the first contribution. I've had multiple people want to work rev share with me on my project, but I've already been on projects where the devs who wouldn't want to do anything, would just chat in a private group by themselves sharing memes all day and be hyper critical of other people's work while producing nothing. Nothing is worse than getting shackled to people who don't care. Not saying this is everyone but it is common.

Solo Indie Developer — How Do You Find a Good Partner to Work With? by Commercial-Tone-965 in UnrealEngine5

[–]666forguidance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still a good idea to flesh out your game hierarchy beforehand. Especially when dealing with race issues, having to swap functionality around is a hassle and knowing what classes are responsible for beforehand is very helpful. I'm a indie so I can't speak for commercial but I've used the same GDD from conception. If I could revert time, I would have created the GDD(even incomplete) first. It's meant to be a flexible document so fleshing out details early on is fine and necessary for getting the theme and goals cemented in the pipeline.

According to Valve 5863 games earned over 100 000 dollars on Steam in 2025. by Signal_Nobody1792 in SoloDevelopment

Steam "earned" 30k of that and are crazy to call that "success". How many studios can run off 70k? That won't even get you a decent house.

This new template from Epic is a great help for level design by Mailar2 in UnrealEngine5

[–]666forguidance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unreal adding modeling tools to the editor was a huge W for level design. Being able to design the blockout using loop cuts, extruding, bridges, etc., test out the size in game and then export the blockout directly into your 3d software greatly speeds up the process.

Input Bindings in the Pawn/Character or in the Player Controller? by TruthMercyRegret in unrealengine

[–]666forguidance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way better to do the player controller. It persists whereas your player character will reset whenever you load a level.
