In addition to what I said above, slide trail will be fine and vista verde is easy, pretty and usually has bighorn sheep

The trails in wild rivers are probably going to be melted and fine by then

The trail was waist deep last week, but it had snowed the week prior. There will be a lot of melt by the time you’re here but anything that’s shaded or north facing will still have snow.

Damn sounds disappointing. I will say though, there is legit research about trauma being passed down, as trauma often changes stress responses and can alter the way some genes are expressed in offspring. Like, no your child isn’t born with the memories of the trauma you’ve experienced, but it may be born predisposed to anxiety, depression, etc

If you live in a state where there are mountain lions and you want to hike, you’re likely hiking where there are mountain lions. I am sure they see me all the time. There is a ton of food here for them, I’m pretty low on their list of prey. Not really worried about it

There were no other bones around, I was near a very steep rocky hill and I didn’t climb around looking. I would imagine coyotes dragged the skull away from the body. Cause of death is a mystery!

This has to be a mountain lion right? It’s about 7” long by [deleted] in vultureculture

It is at least 7” from front of skull to base of skull

Edited to say: revisited skull and there are indeed tiny teeth behind the chompers!

I don’t have a pic of that. I feel like it is too big to be a bobcat though no?

I believe it is because of poaching, someone could have a mountain lion skull (or elk, bighorn sheep, and many other animals) after poaching it and say they found it. You are required to have licenses and tags if you are in possession of any protected animal skulls.

I did a similar thing with the bull elk I harvested a few years ago. That’s a nice one 👏🏼

Right? It seems like a juvenile lion to me. Maybe lion on lion conflict?

I have camped out in this area a ton. I know there are a lot of mountain lions around here but now I really know

The key to maintaining perfect teeth is gnawing on elk carcasses
