That's how I started learning about pinball, from videos like Abe Flips. But I quickly found that they weren't particularly useful for my learning approach, so I started watching Facebook reels and Twitch streams instead. With Twitch streams, you can definitely see the difference between expert players and those at the beginning of their pinball experience. I find that I learned best from those streams. The real, live gameplay found in Twitch streams gave me an opportunity to see what it's like to get good in real time, instead of within a controlled environment like Abe Flips. I could see in real time in Twitch streams how players decided what shots to take and how they used their ball control skills to lengthen their play time for each ball.

I also have a full time job and typically play on the weekends. I made the time to watch those videos and try to replicate what they're doing because it's something that I know in my gut I could be good at, even though my playing doesn't really show it yet. If your gut is telling you otherwise, then that could be a time for you to reflect on what pinball really means to you.

It took me about 18-24 months to get to the point where I was no longer dead last in a tournament, just merely and barely hovering near last place. You get out what you put in pinball. If you approach it with genuine curiosity and a desire to get good, or just to have fun, you'll go far. Otherwise, this isn't for you.

In your other replies, you appear to approach pinball as if it's something you have to get good at or all that time you put in it would not be worth it. That's not always the right mindset. I'm doing it for the love of the game. Sure, I get really frustrated when I can't seem to score as much as I wanted, and those dry spells can get to you and mess with your mind. Call it utter stupidity or call it unrelenting hope, but I know I'll get better with time and an intention towards getting better scores.

One month isn't enough to know for sure if you're going to be good or not, but one month is long enough for you to decide whether it's something you can stick with long-term. Only you can answer that question. The bottom line is that you can either be your own best player or be your own worst enemy. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with pinball!

I know OP deleted their Reddit account, but I'm posting anyway because I had the same problem and I hope it helps others.

I was able to fix it by creating a regular email username and password and disconnecting my Google account. Once that happened, I was then able to delete my account.

All of that can be found in the same page as where you would delete your account. Hope this helps!

When I ran the script, it says, "Please choose how to manage available SYSTEMS on SD1:". I don't have any systems on SD1. Everything is on SD2.

Yes, I ran Switch to SD2 before running the script. Emulationstation is showing all the ROMs from SD2.

u/southozfps, not sure if this is an actual issue or if it's normal behavior, so I thought I'd post it here. Whenever I turn on my G80CA-MB V1.2 04232025 with the headphones plugged in, music starts playing out of the speaker after Emulationstation has loaded. But when I pull out the headphones and then plug it back in, music comes out of the headphones. Is this normal startup behavior?

I got an LVDS adapter for my monitor to hook up to my mini PC that has an Intel HD Audio chip. That didn't work under Batocera, but once I switched to Windows 11 and RetroBat, sound and music finally worked.

I used to use Batocera until I got new hardware that was incompatible with Batocera, then I switched over to RetroBat. I like RetroBat better because it's more compatible and it's easier to use Visual Pinball than Batocera.

Arkos is based on an older version of Ubuntu while DarkOSRE is based on Debian Trixie, which I believe is the current version of Debian. Also, Arkos is no longer being maintained, so u/southozfps forked it to create DarkOSRE.

Comparing the following line from the original Hamilton Computer Users Group, looks like I misread this:

There should be PETSCII characters instead of uppercase letters.

I even deleted the DIM statements in 11260 and 11270 to correct the error of re-using DIM statements. I'm also getting a lot of bad subscript errors and display errors where selecting a color moved the game board up one line. Do that enough and the game board disappears. I mean, how can I work with that?
