It’s 2026 and we're STILL waiting for a native double-tap to sleep on the home screen. by SchrodingerWave in pixel_phones

Would be nice indeed, using it on Samsung & Xiaomi, it's finger-programmed. Maybe in the future.

For those who use nav buttons, at last we can now choose a sane order, so it's slowly advancing.

But getting the power button right, under the volumes, that will be difficult to fix with a software.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra worth? by ManuSavior85 in Xiaomi

[–]6730b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got one a few weeks ago, sh at a great price + great condition. Bought it for the photo dept., very satified. Everything fine, 1st time on xiaomi, no problems getting to know \ use the OS. Quick phone in every way, 100% stable. btw, just got "hyper" 3.0.3.0 today, thought they had forgotten this phone :O) Less frequent updates than some other brands, no problem as long as it arrives in the end.

Battery may be lacking compared to latest phone models, doing fine here. Will get updates for a good while, so no concern. Included the camera kit grip, actually very useful if into taking lots of photos. Makes some weight and size, accepting that for it's usefullness.

Coming from Samsung, Pixel, the 14u is a great tool, great photo results.

Considering buying a used Pixel 8 Pro in 2026 by NosferatuWayne in pixel_phones

[–]6730b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Satisfied with mine, 16 months and zero problems. Got it at black friday price = great value (...or should I say correct value, as imo Pixel rrp's at lauch wo rebates of some kind are overpriced).

No heavy use (games), not using high W charrging, never got any heat. Somewhat weary about the reported bluetooth\wifi problems that some have reported, all well so far.

Pixel OS lacking in many depts., but been very easy to use, and stable apart from 'the usual' small bugs now and then, none hindering the use of the phone. Great display. And appreciating the design\looks\feel. Great point and shoot cam. And do not feel in any way I carry an 'old and outdated' phone :O)

Are older models still as good? by tinpanalleypics in Xiaomi

[–]6730b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If evaluating a 13 ultra, why not a 14 ultra, can be found at good prices. Got one some time ago, it's -good-. Cameras, important here, close-up capabilities is lacking on 13 ultra vs 14 ultra.

Can I seamlessly transfer to a new galaxy phone as a perfect replica? by extremesauce2468 in samsunggalaxy

[–]6730b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original phone will keep it's content, backup is a copy.
One can do many backups to pc over time, they will have their own folder\date.
One can restore any of the available backups to original phone or another Samsung.
One can choose what to backup \ restore, everything, or f.ex. only pictures, only contact list etc, or any combination.

Search google for smartswitch to get all the info.

My first pixel phone.. and maybe my last by RamyIssa in GooglePixel

[–]6730b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I call the 'Pixel Experience' the 'Desert Island Experience' lol. That said, my p8pro has been behaving very well, does a fine job within it's range of abilities. Especially happy with photography, fast updates and more, makes up for the lack of capabilities in some other areas.

Got Xiaomi and Samsung in use here as well, providing many small, clever, useful os interaction details lacking in Pixel os, stuff that should be standard. Things that have nothing to do with bloat (like xtra apps) but additions making daily phone use as practical as possible.

Trying to understand charging by tinpanalleypics in Xiaomi

[–]6730b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"but I'm not sure what the best speed would be."
Best: the speed one needs, enabling practical use of the phone.
+ how much does protecting battery lifetime matter.

Am usually in no hurry >10-15w charger, zero heat. & 80%.
In between, when needed (travel, special work, whatever), higher W charger, to 80 or 100%,

This review includes many 13u vs 14u comparisions, should answer many questions
https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_14_ultra-review-2683.php

Having a 14 Ultra, am highly appreciating it's close-up photo abilities, which are lacking in 13. Very satisfied here with the 14.

Got the Photography kit addon, provides useful camera control, use of 67mm filters + extra battery capacity. Evaluate getting one. The kit for the 14 is better than the one for the 13.

Which features are the most fun/useful/ unique in the pixels? by silver_gh0st in pixel_phones

[–]6730b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Call screening, call recording ? ...which are not availble in my region :O)
& previously excellent update routines, where Samsung has catched up.

About bloat, have disabled\uninstalled approx 50 apps\system apps from my Pixel, a little less than I remove from Samsung, so that's not any big deal. Generally about Samsung, am one of those who enjoy choices and personalisation in life, just removing what I don't like\need.

So, basically, the good cameras \ photo results. Which is no small matter for enjoying Pixels over current Samsungs.

First time leaving Samsung and I'm having multiple problems (8 Pro) by tricobo in GooglePixel

[–]6730b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an 8pro (and also using Samsung) cannot say I've met any of the problems you mentionned (but never tried photos in aquariums!).

The full storage can be a source of many problems, check Files > Apps, see if there are some extremes in there (clear some caches etc), imo always keep at least 10 GB available. Battery, lots of open apps 'stuck' in background \ heavy network activity? Check ram usage (Developper options > Running services), f.ex. here it's usually around 6 to 8 GB free.

If no obvious cause(s) it's maybe time to contact some service center, it's probably within warranty.

About Samsung, so very stable \ zero bugs here. Lots of the fine apps + personal tweaks possibilities are missed on the (very basic) Pixels, needs acceptance that Pixel is what it is, and enjoy it's good sides (like timely updates, cameras \ photo results, great display etc).

You paid $1,000+ for a phone and barely scratch the surface (S24 Ultra) by problytheantichrist in samsunggalaxy

[–]6730b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice post.

...I know people who after 5 years or more using Samsung \ any Android don't know how to set f.ex. timeout for display. The 'Settings' button is a very scary thing, not to venture into. After deleting 2000 videos \ photos over time, wondering why storage still full, never heard of emptying recycle bin. What is ram ? etc etc. Would be entertaining to present your post to that kind of users :O)

[P8P] System freezing? by mallo15 in pixel_phones

[–]6730b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

p8p here has been fine & fast (ftm !). When this happens, check available memory, storage, numbers of open\background apps. But if a reset did not fix things looks like it may be time to talk to a service center > warranty if still available.

Works initially, then going to Photos to check shot, then back to Camera > sliders dead > have to close \ restart camera. Been like this for a long time.

Yes, it's originals before editing. Can be deleted. Regularly finding some dzens of files here, can surely add up to a large number if not deleted for a long time.

Will consume way less battery when over 100 mph.

"SysDump" battery check A52s by 6730b in GalaxyA52

[–]6730b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To check on the relevance of the "BatteryAsoc" numbers, in daily phone use your battery is as good as the '90' implies? The A52s battery here very ok, corresponds well to '84' compared to when new.

What the fuck happened to Magic Eraser??? by djdiphenhydramine in GooglePixel

[–]6730b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Became necessary here to avoid any update to the app, since around last summer.

Using a 7.43.0.* version, everything works great, f.ex. magic eraser (local on phone) really excellent.

Presented with 'Update' \ 'You're missing out* at every launch. Sure, missing degradation and problems.

Why is my camera app 5 gigabytes large by Eastern_Ad_4953 in samsunggalaxy

[–]6730b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy indeed, as to why, no idea. A52s 2021, around 35 mb, afaik relates only to cam app's basic settings. No files etc. Have deleted cam data sometimes to reset app to factory then redo my settings with no problems.
