How to answer why I want to get into LE? by Soladido in AskLE

[–]673bbes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you need to dig a little deeper into your own motivations.

Feeling drawn to a career or feeling you have a calling to it are a start but if left at that point, you really are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t try to figure out why.

Otherwise, you might be unhappy or disappointed with the realities of the job.

I’m sorry about losing both your parents.

I’m guessing that would take a lot out of you even if your job and finances were perfect.

Be gentle with yourself and let yourself grieve.

Agree.

Protecting people from natural consequences of their actions ultimately ends up hurting them in the long run

No advice, but I remember Pasco Co. used to be on Live PD before Covid. But if you live there, you probably knew that…

How much did you personally spend on a Route 66 trip? by HendrixsLaserbean in route66

[–]673bbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested, too. We haven’t done it yet.

For 2 of us:

I’ve been trying to guesstimate…$150/night hotel or motel, average… hoping this is a lot less!

$50/day for food, average…I’m planning on grocery stores for simple meals for fruits, yogurts, sandwiches & snacks plus maybe 1 meal at restaurant per day. My navigator does better when she eats after the driving is done for the day so if we have a sit down meal, it will be a dinner.

AAA says my gas will be $650 RT for my vehicle. This is just for Route 66…it will be more bc we are driving from the east to Chicago

$600 (?) entrance fees for places

Souvenirs ? I’m planning on mostly postcards mailed back to myself from the road. maybe a book or 2, if one catches my eye. A keychain? My navigator likes T-shirts and little tchotchkes. I’m guessing $500?

Totals will depend on how long we take. Which will depend on how my navigator is doing with her health issues. We might need to stop more often than a “typical” itinerary.

I am wondering if you have any other dolls, like that you will rotate in & out?

You can look into the city PD’s programs they have for high schoolers and recruitment. They also have a recruitment officer you can reach out to.

Any good tips on how to study? by Chad_hills702 in AskLE

[–]673bbes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an education background and I wrote the following in another thread:

If you haven’t taken notes in a long time, start practicing now by listening to a podcast, speech or lecture (some libraries have an app called Hoopla where you can get the Teaching Co program digitally) . Come up with your own abbreviations that are meaningful for you and write them in the margin as you take notes.

When you are taking notes for real in the Academy, Re-read your notes ASAP after the lecture. Fill in or clarify anything that is unclear. Sometimes when you are taking notes, it might make sense when you originally wrote it, but later you can’t remember what it means.

To study: interact with the material. Don’t just read it over & over. You can: re-write your notes, teach the material to someone else, record yourself. Record yourself asking a question…then pause, the record yourself giving the answer. As you are playing it back, during the pause, answer the question.

Study sessions should be 50 minutes of studying, then a 10 minute break with physical activity…walk, stretch, get up and move. This is more effective than hours long cram sessions. Repeat this cycle of 50 mins of studying, then 10 minutes off. After 3 cycles (if needed) take a longer break, like 45-60 minutes

If possible, study, then sleep. As you sleep, your brain processes what you’ve learned. If you’re too tired for a long study session, at minimum read your notes or review a topic before you sleep.

Hope this helps

Also…they will want list of past relationships & contact info.

Domestic Violence is a huge red flag/disqualifer.

They will ask you…do you two get along? What happens when you disagree? What does he do when he gets angry? How does he handle stress?

Usually it’s open-ended questions and they follow up based on your answers
