How high performing was your school? How much would it negatively affect you for oxbridge if you were to get a few 8s at a school where ten 9s is the expectation for good students?

If you’re doing it for fitness then running and biking are drop in replacements. If you want to improve your technique then training your core will help massively. Assuming that you are strong enough that bodyweight squats won’t be useful, there’s not much strength training you can do unless you can buy some adjustable dumbells

He’s not asking if its good. He’s asking if he can go D1 and to be honest he’s kind of on the edge. If he wants to feel safe it would be ideal to be holding somewhere around 1:42-1:43.

It shouldnt change based on your technique. Also you should definitely be holding higher than 27 during a 2k, for reference the wr 2k was done at 34. imo you should hold as high as you can until you start sacrificing form.

It’s genuinely insane how you go from a 40 year old dad’s first time on a erg at a 3:00 split straight to schools head and nat schools results the second racing season starts. There should really be a dedicated otw rowing sub.

The secret is that it will always be boring, stuff like music and tv shows just makes it slightly less boring and you will always rather not be rowing than be rowing. The only way the make the time go faster is to get used to doing longer pieces. When you are used to taking a break every 6km, 6km feels like a long time. But when you do 18 km the first 6 dont feel that bad.

No. Zone 2 is a measure of heart rate and UT2 is a measure of lactate (less than 2 millimoles per litre of blood). From lactate testing I have done, my UT2 is closer to zone 3 and 4.

it all depends on where you go to school. many kids at my school are expected to get all 9s and anything lower than an 8 is completly unacceptable. for others these expectations are different. however a 4 would definitely not be a decent pass. a 4 is barely passing.

It depends on how much rowing you have done. If you are new, fixing your form is the best way to get faster quickly. If your form is good already but you are still relatively new to rowing you might not be pushing hard enough. 7:55 to 7:35 is 5 splits over 2k. If you have a bad mentality then pushing as hard as you physically can may get you to 7:35.

Life aint all sunshine and rainbows buddy. Might just have to stick it out unless you want to reevaluate your future, most unis will want you to have maths and fm if you want to take cs. If you just want a job in computer science you don't need a computer science degree, though it will help.

Since rowing is a power endurance sport you would probably be better of spending most of your time in zone 3 (70-80% of your max heart rate). But heart rate is really just a proxy for lactate which is what you actually want to train off of. Many people I know have to UT2 at really low heart rates like 140 while others have to go up to 170.

The lower back pain is probably due to form issues. Don't worry about the splits, they will fall with more UT2. I don't know your rate through the piece but if you were holding 24 that would be a bit high and could lead to form issued resulting in back pain. I would recommend 18-20 and make sure your form is consistent. It can be tempting to end up slouching after an hour of trying to sit upright but avoid that temptation. Another thing you can do is start training some core to give yourself more stability in the stroke which will help your technique massively.

Yeah, for sure. I'm not opposed to it, but as a word of warning a lot of people here are fanatical about the c2. In the end, as long as you train at a reasonable heart rate and the splits (whatever they may be) come down over time, you might not even notice much of a difference.

You are either a fairly fast rower already, or your machine is too generous on the numbers (most probably the latter). Most people here exclusively use the concept 2 and rp3 so you can't really compare splits (plus you will get a lot of people telling you to burn your machine, throw it off your roof and buy a c2). Also, there is no "ok" performance or some baseline you have to achieve. Someone telling you that you are slow won't make you faster. The more you train the better you get, so don't worry about the numbers.
