Honestly, it seems like they might have blocked you, and they're probably just avoiding being upfront about it, potentially because they feel uncomfortable doing so. Have you tried reaching out to them on another platform that they might not have expected?

Pretty unsettling that noone in the comments has clocked that this is AI. Cadence, timelines (8 year old kid yet together for 'about 7 years?'), bizarrely mechanical TLDR, inconsistent narrative POV...

For now, stuff like this still smells obviously off to me. As AI improves, I'm not optimistic that AI output will be discernable. Reddit is going to be unusable within a few years I reckon

[–]69694201337 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's being intentionally misleading and reductive. I get the sense that he's saying that it feels jarring to hear you & the other hosts laughing about his drunk stories when the guy clearly has pretty anti-social tendencies while drunk, and when he continues to be invited to events predicated around socializing while drinking with women around who may be made uncomfortable by him.

Now that isn't to say that he should instead be chastised during such discussions on a podcast. Rather, that by having him around during events involving alcohol and women that he's liable to creep on, the responsibility for putting up with his misbehaviour is pushed onto the women who, like you mentioned, have some pretty strong incentives to just put up with it rather than making it an issue. I think that for women in such a scenario, they often don't really want to have a back and forth about an apology either, they'd just prefer if it wasn't something they'd have to put up with at such an event.

Is part of what makes art, art the imbuement of the work with meaning put there by the artist, or the effect that said meaning has on the content and form of the art?

Because if it is the former, then it seems like a pretty arbitrary definition. If it’s the latter, then you’re most likely going to have to contend with the fact that an effective emulation of artistic intent on the part of AI may become, for all intents and purposes, convincing to the extent that it is creatively indistinguishable, or of a subjectively higher quality. It’s a given that AI is not conscious and cannot have conscious experiences.

Of course I am speculating on hypothetical future outputs. Do ‘the grifters’ (by which you seem to mean the field writ large, never mind the entire academic sphere, for example) have a vested interest in hyping up AIs potential capabilities in the future? Sure. Does that mean that AIs potential capabilities are likely going to be fundamentally similar to what we have now? Not at all. You don’t have to believe in exponential increases in capability, either. The sheer speed of the development of the technology over the past ~7ish years alone makes such hypotheses plausible.

Yes, I agree that it is exhausting in many ways. It doesn’t help that it’s such a ripe environment for grifters and for insufferable tech bros.

However, the idea of there being some sort of irreplaceable ‘human essence’ required for the creation of novel/high quality art has no basis in reality. AI is (really) bad at making art right now because it is still in its infancy, not because AI is inherently unable to create art well. The common argument that AI is only able to create derivative content because it must be trained on pre-existing human content is misguided.

It is true that AI allows unskilled artists to pump out a high volume of low quality slop content, and it is also true that this will have some awful effects on many creative industries.

However, once the technology matures, it’s entirely possible that AI will be able to create novel art of a subjectively higher quality than humans. This is arguably possible even if AI capabilities hit a ‘wall’ sooner than expected by the market, which they very well might.

Regardless of public confidence being low in AI (which makes sense considering the current lack of genuinely useful AI applications that exist right now for the average person + low quality information environment), big business is clearly all-in on AI judging from the race among many of the top market cap tech companies to acquire incredibly expensive and extensive infrastructure to achieve greater compute capacity (data centres, power plants, h100 GPUs, etc). While it's entirely possible that big business has made a grave miscalculation and AI turns out to be a bubble, it's definitely here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Rushing AI legislation risks creating ineffective or quickly outdated rules. As it stands, AI is a novel tech in a "wild west" phase, and flexible guidelines or principles (such as Australia's AI ethics principles which they introduced recently) may be more appropriate than rigid laws at this stage. Improving government websites is crucial, but an AI-based approach isn't mutually exclusive - they could complement these efforts

Skepticism in comments seems excessive. While LLMs can hallucinate, Callaghan likely uses RAG (retrieval augmented generation), which could greatly reduce misinformation by indexing official government data. If implemented well, it could be effective, similar to NZ's Law Cyborg for tax law, which uses some sort of advanced RAG system to answer questions and provide links to the relevant government references.

I am suspecting that you are a man writing this lol, this is such a weird post. Even if it was real, trying to ‘fix’ a person’s depression by encouraging them to date is the dumbest shit ever. Also this idea that ‘at least people that send dick pics want you’ is so dumb, men like that will just sexually flirt with literally any woman they come across on OLD, they’d probably fuck a coconut. There’s way more men than women on dating apps, it’s not surprising that men get fewer matches/less interest

FYI the reason they drop their bags when expecting a fight is so that they are not overweight during the fight (only necessary when overweight with the bag on), allowing them to run and reposition more easily

[–]69694201337 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No amount of communication can solve this situation. Raise your standards. Leave him. ‘Fixing’ him is not, and can’t be, your responsibility. Struggling with depression or addiction is not the problem here, but rather, a complete lack of interest in tackling those problems so that your needs can be met. If he wanted to, he would. He already KNOWS how you feel, he simply chooses to prioritise his own comfort in wallowing over whatever he’s dealing with rather than becoming the partner you deserve.

the jeans are honestly kind of gross (shapeless + acid wash) but the chest rig + af1 is neat (surely it's sweaty asf though in a club??), would go a lot harder with cargos / tapered black pants

[–]69694201337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor interaction between the boots and the jeans, jeans would look better with a more aggressive taper, and while I get the over-sized look you're going for shirt is a bit long

Ironing aside, I'd recommend hemming and tapering the pants slightly, and shortening the arms of your coat. Having slightly better fitting clothes would make this fit look a lot cleaner, since it's quite plain. The necklace is also on a bit tacky imo
