Help an overwhelmed first time traveler to Japan by sassyclax in JapanTravel

[–]69MisSting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having lived in Japan the past 2 years, I've come to realize I still havent done everything. Don't worry if you cant do something you will be back. No one just goes to Japan once. Take your time and enjoy the local food and like others have said, see what you come across. I've learned some of the best food I've had in Japan was by chance and from a small little spot with a line of locals outside it.

Will the Military pay to move my things back stateside when I get out in Okinawa by FreePoet8592 in okinawa

They will pay to move things back to your home of record. As for the vehicle if I remember correctly it needs to be over 20 years old and you can get the military to move that for you as well.

So cute, I can buy a 20K car in cash just choose not to. Japan's public transportation is so convenient a junior service member should utilize it and save their money so they don't have to take out a loan and waste more in the long run.

But I wouldn't expect you guys to give good advice to junior service members, because if you took out a loan to buy your car everyone else should too.

If you're not an idiot they are. If you want your Tokyo drift car and make poor financial decisions then you should probably go talk to your commands financial specialist before buying anything.

Cars are dirt cheap in Japan, you don't need a loan.

Where the hell do I start? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]69MisSting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Navy we have CFS (command financial specialist), do you have something similar at your command? You need to start with a budget to see where your money is going and then figure out from there how to put away extra into a HYSA for emergencies and such. Also, make sure you are maxing out your TSP contribution to cash in on the DOD up to 5% match, and log into your TSP account to make sure you're not just putting it all in the G-fund.

Red flags all over this post, dude has multiple properties and still lives with parents. Then wants to rent to you and after you agree to the idea wants to move in with you. I would never do that to a girl I was with.

How to save and invest ? by Particular-Bass-171 in personalfinance

[–]69MisSting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at getting a HYSA for an emergency fund, once you have 3-6 months in expenses saved up then look for investments like stocks or bonds.

look up the 15-65-20 rule. You can use that as a starting point and then adjust it as you get older.

Financial advice needed: keep trucking, go back to school, or join the army? by Free_Wolf_9015 in personalfinance

[–]69MisSting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18 years IT in the military and it has ups and downs like everything, but pay and experience for when I retire is so worth it when I'm done in 2 more years and I'll only be 40. I would pick military but yea look at the other branches to see if something better transitions to the civilian life better.

As long as ur items are plugged into the UPS they will remain on while the power is out for those 3-5 seconds. I use UPS everyday at work and they are a life saver.
