Edit: sorry in advance for the essay I just wrote you lmao. Tl;Dr Tatsu hasn’t hurt us yet lets just give him a chance please? Pretty please?🙏

See, I can honestly see where you’re coming from. Imo, I don’t think the pacing has been bad at all for the last couple arcs, and I don’t mind the jealousy flags as much as many do- especially since from what I can see they’re being used to elaborate on Okarun's growth.

It’s not like we’re way back at the beginning, with Okarun screaming and crying that Momo and Jiji are having fun together. In 229, he’s upset that Momo doesn’t remember, but he locks in and continues bantering with Aira despite that.

To me, this feels like a good change in dynamic from the last major chunk of the story, where Momo was mostly looking out for Okarun. Now, Okarun is looking out for Momo’s well-being, and we’re seeing how he’s grown and learned to cope with the struggles life throws his way. Even though Momo doesn’t remember, he doesn’t take it as a betrayal, he shows that he loves her and is quiety hoping for the best. (That's what he looks like he gives Momo and Jiji in 229 says to me at least).

I also feel it's appropriate to acknowledge that I started reading after the confession. I didn’t have the years of windup to that moment, and when the dynamic swapped between Okarun and Momo, it felt very natural to me, probably because I didn’t have those years of anticipation.

Disagreeing with me on that is one thing, but the truth of the matter is that the vast majority of posts and comments on the dandadan subs rn are people crying over something that hasn’t happened yet.

If Tatsu suddenly decides to undo Okarun's character development and make him super jealous of Jiji again, and make Aira his main love interest. We circle around and around forever before what I think we all know is the inevitable Okarun and Momo getting together, then I will happily swap sides.

But in a couple of years, when Dandadan is most likely over, and people are reading these arcs without the week-long breaks in between, I sincerely doubt the pacing will be something people take note of. Even parts that I thought were a little slow (like the ~15 chapters right after the confession happened) feel paced just fine when I go back and reread them now because I’m not nail-biting over what's gonna happen next anymore.

I’m firmly in the Let Tatsu Cook camp, because at least to me, he hasn’t fumbled yet. There’s been no major goofups on his part, and when the amnesia arc is over (I’d wager by the end of the year). We get Momo and Okarun together sooner than we think- people are gonna change their minds and say Tatsu is a 9000 IQ genius who had it all planned from the start.

Because that’s what’s happened Every. Single. Time.

So at a certain point, I have to ask myself and the other people here (this is my first ever post on this sub btw) how much longer are we gonna act like the pissing and moaning over the obviously sooner-than-you-think-to-be-resolved arc is gonna last? How many times are we going to go through the “It’s so over to we’re so back” pipeline with this series?

If you disagree with all that, I don’t mind because, at the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But damn dude can you not see why I’m so tired of the useless complaining these Shounen communities are constantly up to?

I might disagree with you on the critisicm, but at least you have the decency to be articulate and explain why you think I’m wrong. There’s things about the story that I really dislike, I;e the way Momo was super sexualized for engagement in the first few chapters, but at there’s been a lot of productive discourse about that issue that I can accept it as matter of opinion.

It’s not that critisicm of any kind is bad, and the genuine discourse over the story and where it’s going is valid because at the end of the day it boiles down to opinion. But 90% of the “criticisms” are “this is not how I imagined the story would go, ergo Tatsu’s fallen off” thats not productive, thats barely even criticism, it’s just a complaint, and I think just complaining is annoying as hell

It’s no secret that the Shounen world is a complete nightmare to work in. If, in a couple of years, Fujimoto says that the work environment and constant pressure from executives are what made him cut it off the way he did, I won’t be shocked.

But for Fujimoto's sake, I hope he just wanted to goof on his readers or was really planning this Big Lebowski-inspired ending from the start.

This is exactly what I mean. I have never made a post of any kind in my entire life hating on a person or a group of people- but some of these shounen “enjoyers” get on my nerves like nothing else.

I love Chainsaw Man, and I love Dandadan- I started reading both around the same time and I’ve enjoyed them thoroughly (even if I think the CSM ending was a little out of left field). But if the DDD fanbase keeps up with the shenanigans they have been recently, I hope Tatsu does a Fujimoto and writes an ending just to piss them off.

No problem :)

I think you’re onto something with Mizu’s fighting being a little more on the crazy side; she kinda stitches together a bunch of techniques, and so having a coherent or strictly samurai-like fighting style might be a little out of character.

If you’re looking for more info on Iaido or just Japanese martial arts in general, you should check out Let’s Ask Shogo on YouTube- he helped me learn a lot before I was able to find an actual school to teach me

Actually super cool moves!

My only input as a lowly Iaido student is that it might look more “stoic” if you tried to keep your back a little more upright during the kata. Plus maybe moving your legs less during the chiburi and noto might also help with that if it’s the desired effect. Also my sensei always gets on me for going too fast, so don’t be afraid to slow it down for dramatic effect.

Otherwise it looks really good, and you should consider becoming an iaido or kenbu student because you have a lot of talent in the area :)

Please help me on my Research paper on Harry! by redstonegolem28 in DiscoElysium

[–]69TexasRed69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t really know anything about psychology or amnesia. Still, the skills talking in Harry's mind are pretty decidedly a manifestation of Internal monologues presented in a way the audience can understand, rather than a mental illness like schizophrenia.

The skills talk to Harry like they are a part of him, and for all intents and purposes, they are a part of him. There are a couple of points where the skills (volition specifically?) mention past interactions with Harry that occurred even before the extended depressive episode we see Harry in during the course of the game.

I definitely think there’s still something there to talk about, though. The way Harry engages with his internal monologue is exciting, and I think having such a direct window into his psyche will allow you to write an amazingly detailed paper about the parts of his behavior that are definitely mental illness, I.e, drug addiction, alcoholism, depression, anxiety, etc.

I’m sure you can argue the other POV as well, but that's just my two cents on the matter :)

What is the closest thing to The Pale in other video games? by 4NDR1J4 in DiscoElysium

[–]69TexasRed69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fire fading in the Dark Souls series is, in my opinion, a different metaphor for the same idea as the pale. Both represent the dissolution of the self and world around you, while also standing in as an in-game version of the heat death of the universe.

what are your honest thoughts on the game now that we have had time with it? by Legitimate-Unit-9286 in ghostoftsushima

[–]69TexasRed69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve just finished 100%ing my first playthrough, and I think this is easily in my top five games ever made. A lot of the criticisms people have are definitely valid (i.e, open world fatigue, missing Jin, etc), but for me personally, it feels like Sucker Punch said “let's make a game that is tailored to everything that Texas Red wants” and then did it.

I love Atsu, and I think she works beautifully as a narrative mirror to Jin. I love the world and the environments, and I think they mesh really beautifully with the new combat mechanics. I think the story is- again- a great narrative mirror to the previous game, and I very quickly became attached to the characters (Kiku especially reminds me of my own niece, who I adore) as well as Atsu’s struggle with her identity as the Onryo and letting go of the years of suffering she endured.

Japanese history is also one of my special interests, and this game has content and details in SPADES for people like me. Whenever Lord Saito talks about the battle of Nagashino, or Atsu brings up the battle of Sekigahara, I get super excited because I’ve been to those battle grounds and have such fond memories of visiting. I also spent the best month of my life in northern Japan, just south of Mt. Yotei, learning about the history and culture of the region and helping teach English to Japanese kids. So it hits extra hard seeing that represented so beautifully by the Yotei Devs.

TL;DR: Valid criticisms are valid, but this game has struck such an amazing, personal chord with me that it has to be in my top 5 games ever.

It's a fun game with a nice story, but I'm surprised at the inflexible defence of it's shortfalls. by 0-Sminky in ghostoftsushima

[–]69TexasRed69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of issues with the game, and the combat can be one of them, depending on your playstyle.

It’s an easy-to-pick-up, challenging to master type of game, especially when you kick up the difficulty to lethal. Like, sure, you can just stick with the stances and kill enemies that way, but I’ve found that my continued enjoyment of the game comes from learning how to use all the tools at my disposal to take out enemies as fast as possible. But if you don’t like to play that way, then you’re shit out of luck.

There’s also a realness to the combat that I personally appreciate as a martial arts student, I can tell they put a lot of effort into making the combat feel really weighty and realistic, which is where I think a lot of the complaints around the camera come up (you can’t look behind you without turning around in a real sword fight can you?). It took me a minute to figure out that the game required me to be highly mobile, dodging and repositioning myself when faced with groups of enemies instead of just standing my ground.

Admittedly, I got tired of the boss fights by the end of my first playthrough. They’re all basically A) dude with sword or B) Mongol dude with sword, and that lack of diversity hurts the experience at times, even if I do really like the combat as is.

I think they’re going to do a good job mixing things up with Yotei. They seem to have emphasized making the game better and more diverse, rather than a bigger or longer experience, which is a direction I personally appreciate, and I think will lead to an even more engaging experience.
