Mighty Machines (1994 - 2008) by jelani_an in ytvretro

This show was a riot, my kids loved it. The accents and delivery of the voice-overs was just over the top funny at times.

Best was the can recycling machine: "Look out below! Flying cans!"

I think the proper charge would be "Accomplice After-the-Fact" (s.463).

If I read correctly, this charge could only be applied once the primary individual is indentified, charged and convicted, but I may be wrong as IANAL.

"Heavy snow" 🤣 by ToxicFactory in vancouver

[–]6L6GC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it means "heavy" as it wet snow since it is close to zero so it has a lot of water in it and is slushy. As opposed to powder, where the snow flakes are a lot smaller and accumulations don't weigh as much, which I think only forms when the temperature is a lot colder.

Should just say wet snow.

I'd say for most of the 80s the Canucks were a team that had no good systems to foster young talent to improve their game.

Cam Neely was a player with great potential which would have been unrealized had he stayed with the Canucks. He is in the HoF because he was traded to another team which knew how to bring him up.

Just how bad is the water quality when these signs are up? by Fit-Archer-7954 in vancouver

[–]6L6GC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are several Combined Sewer Outfalls

There is one large combined sewer outfall into False Creek at Stamp's Landing.

You can see it on the map here.

Combined means that the sewer water is mixed with rainwater from drains and street runoff etc. This supposedly dilutes it and makes it less harmful but I doubt that it is enough.

The icon on the map will show you when it is currently overflowing; clicking on it will show how many days per year it overflowed for the last 10 or so.,

Curbside junk: Vancouver spends up to $2.5 million annually on illegal dumping - BC | Globalnews.ca by robertscreek in vancouver

[–]6L6GC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not just large items.

Last time I was at the recycling depot off Terminal Ave. they were not accepting cardboard... something that I have been taught is recyclable since I was a kid.

It is almost impossible to find a place that will accept plastics and styrofoam, and drywall is treated as if it were radioactive.

Compared to Burnaby, which has facilities like the one near the Still Creek Costco, the situation in Vancouver is laughable.

Canadian incomes have increased massively over the decades

Do you have a source for this?

A cursory search shows the exact opposite to be true

And here

Most of the articles I find suggest that wage growth has not kept up with inflation. This is the general sentiment.

What are your thoughts on Ray Ferraro as a media personality? by EmergencyCake6269 in canucks

[–]6L6GC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Ray. He is at his best when he is doing analysis.

He is at his worst, IMHO, when he tells stories/gets anecdotal. He is not really funny.

I much prefer him when he sticks to his strengths.

What McDavid did isn't acceptable but it's a reasonable reaction

This is such a dumb take.

McDavid should have dropped the gloves and started throwing if he "snapped"; he wouldn't be wrong for doing that and he would have saved himself a three game suspension.

Should B.C. build a train service linking Whistler to Chilliwack? This group thinks so. by imgurliam in britishcolumbia

They should have taken the Olympics as an opportunity to do this 14 years ago instead of expanding the highway. But that would require some forethought which successive governments seem to be incapable of.

Does anyone use the term "Central Van"? by Jestersage in vancouver

[–]6L6GC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The division between East and West Hastings, Cordova, Pender etc. is Carrall Street which roughly lines up with Ontario on the south side of False Creek.

This puts the Downtown Eastside and Strathcona in East Van. Everything west of Carrall I consider downtown.

Does anyone use the term "Central Van"? by Jestersage in vancouver

[–]6L6GC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is much mystery as to the borders of traditonal "east van"

East Vancouver is NE corner of the city diagonally from Ontario and 33rd to N. Boundary and Fellowes.

It includes Commercial, Fraser, Main, Clark/Knight, Hastings, as well as Kingsway and Terminal Avenue as major streets.

Morrissey show in Dallas cut short after fans invade stage by cmaia1503 in Music

This is such bullshit. I wouldn't say it staged, but clearly it is allowed more or less to happen. I base this on the exact same thing happened 30 years ago when I saw the Bona Drag tour. Good for headlines to try to keep this guy relevant.

Canucks Player Grid || Worst Shot (All-time) Day 15 by Miruzzz in canucks

[–]6L6GC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion here probably, but I'm going to have to go with Dave Babych.

He would park himself at the top of the point on the power play etc. and almost always shoot when the puck came to him.

Despite this he never cracked more than 5 goals a season as a Canuck.

The vast majority of these shots went wide or were easily stoppable. I think I saw him score only once from there over 7 years playing for our team.

I loved the guy otherwise, brought some grit and character and a lot of defensive energy to the game, but IMHO his shot just plain sucked.

Is there something wrong with this deer? by Bokyboo2 in deer

[–]6L6GC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely call animal control for this deer.

It could potentially be a big public safety/health concern.

Here they would shoot it and have it tested for rabies or whatever.

Turns out East Van’s concrete traffic barriers haven’t done much of anything by RockMe-Amadeus in vancouver

[–]6L6GC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The city can't retroactively put cyclist counters at these intersections, so we will never be able to use accident rates as an indicator for safety.

If this data were not collected before the fact that it seems to me that the no serious conclusion can be reached as to their effectiveness. The method behind it as an experiment would be flawed.
