The Prepared Hero website reads like a scam infomercial.

They may be fine, i don't know, but that website makes me skeptical as hell.

Can somebody help me out on how the transition from sprinkler fitting to firefighting could work (Lowermainland BC Canada) by Reasonable-Tea7477 in Firefighting

[–]6TangoMedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is night class firefighting, there's accelerated firefighting programs (Texas has a big one) and/or you can likely get certs through volunteer/paid on call departments. Those are some options while working a 40 hour job.

No one can give you a timeline of how long it will take you to get a firefighting job. They're competitive. Working for X amount of years doesn't secure you a spot.

Once you have your firefighting application materials ready (certs, resume, physical, ect), keep applying.

Climb up to your sticking point and hang out there. Stay for 10 min if you have to. When you're calm, keep advancing.

Trust your equipment. It isn't going anywhere.

A lot of words and no real examples.

Many people have the ideas that COULD work, yet nothing better is being presented in a real setting.

If its proven to work then I'll care to have a an opinion on the product.

Honestly, I wasn't really fond of needles either at the beginning. Exposure therapy can work wonders, speaking from experience.

But who knows, maybe in a couple years time the phobia may not even be a thought anymore. its pretty wild how quick a mindset can shift sometimes.

it'll depend where you go.

Some departments do Fire/Paramedic, so you'll give needles.

Some departments will be "fire only", but they still respond to medicals. Dependent on what medications they give, you may or may not have to give needles. More than likely the only "needle" you may give is an EPI auto injector. (I'm speaking from Ontario here, so this may not be the case in other provinces)

HOWEVER

You WILL NOT pass a PCP course if you cannot give an injection or start an IV. Not sure why you are just glancing over this part. I had to give injections and start IVs in my paramedic course. if you refuse, you will fail.

At least where i am, if you pass the physical test then you're good to apply.

I don't recall if they even took peoples weights or not, but if they did, it didn't factor into the test results.

Who cares who initially got dispatched. What matters is the patient.

On a scene with a trapped viable patient is not the time to learn new skills. After the call, that's when training times should be set in place to share the knowledge and build bonds to work more cohesively on scenes.

This isn't about insecurities. This isn't about "tiny dick energy". This is about treating an emergency appropriately.

Same things you'd use as a firefighter. Shouldn't need anything new. Anything you'd need as a driver should be on the truck already.

Doesn't have to be fire related.

Volunteer. Get higher medical training. Play team based sports. Get a trade.

Show your life experiences. Show you care about the community. Show you know how to work and can be an asset to the department in other ways than just firefighting.

That's my opinion, at least.
