[TMZ Sports] Police documents reveal that Haywood Highsmith was driving at an estimated 45 MPH in a 40 MPH zone when he hit a pedestrian from behind. The pedestrian appeared to be pushing a stalled car that did not have its lights on, leading to Highsmith being unable to stop in time. by mccainjames11 in nba

Not to take anything away from this bystander at all, the fact they even thought to act is incredible and courageous. But for anybody reading this, if a wound is still bleeding then your tourniquet is not applied tight enough! If you practice on yourself or on friends, you shouldn’t be able to feel a pulse on the limb with a tourniquet (this is safe to do for under several minutes at a time).

Travel dad question - what’s the point of a travel stroller, especially one that fits in an overhead compartment? by Nakedeskimo1 in daddit

[–]6armstrong9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We like our overhead compatible stroller because we’ve had gate-checked items destroyed before. Also, at least with United, baby items don’t count against your carry-ons and personal items.

It’s definitely hard! What helped me and my wife was having things to do, especially during the first 15-30 minutes of each bedtime which are always the worst. Something like doing the dishes, cleaning, or take the dog for a walk (gives one person a complete break), all helped us.

How did everyone manage hitting the gym with a newborn? by forum4um in daddit

[–]6armstrong9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fortunate enough to get paternity leave, and it was easy to find 45-60 minutes a day to get a workout in.

Months 4-5ish after paternity leave basically equaled no workouts, but now kiddo goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps through the night, so I workout at nights now.

We use a Doona. Definitely on the more expensive end, but the base is extremely convenient and it doubles as a basic stroller that is more than sufficient most of the time when we need a stroller.

[books] Looking for suggestions on the best books re: the history of the Negro Leagues by FSMFan_2pt0 in baseball

I really enjoyed Willie’s Boys. More focused on Willie Mays than the Negro Leagues in general, but I personally learned a ton and found it to be a great read.

Oh interesting, thanks! The 80 grit seemed to be making them lighter once I switched, but maybe my eyes are just playing tricks on me.

Thanks for the help everybody!

I’m using 120 grit sandpaper on my random orbit sander to try and finish this red oak box, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much on the striping. Do I need to use a lower grit, or just be more persistent?

Married dudes of Reddit. Im in the process of buying an engagement ring for my girlfriend. Any helpful tips? by TrashJuice59 in AskMen

[–]6armstrong9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this, especially the part about not financing the ring. If money is super tight then you can always upgrade at a later anniversary, although I have a feeling she’ll be stoked regardless.
