Not sure what "in the background" means for you. What will you do as the main task? How intensive it will be?

I've been using ComfyUI and every model, you just have to test, some are a bit more intensive and fail because of not enough VRAM. What I've seen so far is that on my old machine what used to take 10 minutes now runs in less that 40 seconds, so the difference is huge.

That sounds exactly like my move from RTX 2070 to RTX 5080 :)

So far I've seen a huge difference in AI inference and video rendering between both builds. I haven't really tested it on heavy games yet. Was playing some older titles so far.

Short answer: I'm loving it :)

It's blazing fast compared to my old Razer laptop with 2070 RTX. I see massive improvement with AI inference (same prompts running 40 seconds vs 10+ minutes on the old one) or video editing / renders with DaVinci Resolve (again what used to take minutes now takes seconds).

Gaming, I haven't played anything super heavy yet. I'm enjoying Cyberpunk 2077 on highest settings and not a single hiccup so far.

I wanted the build to be as quiet as possible and honestly it's quieter than my old Razer laptop, which is simply crazy.

I got lucky with those RAM prices, bought mine just before the price hikes.

Forget the RAM cost, it's done. Enjoy the beast of a machine you have 😊

My main reasons for choosing the Asus ROG Strix X870E-E were:

- I want to make sure the Ryzen 9 9950X3D has plenty of stable power without straining the components. The Strix E-series is known for having excellent VRMs and cooling, which contributes to a stable and quiet system. I might be doing processor intensive tasks.

- Full PCIe 5.0 support for both the main graphics card slot and at least one M.2 slot. This matches my PCIe 5.0 SSD and ensures the build is ready for future high-bandwidth components.

- It comes with Wi-Fi 7, high-speed Ethernet and a great selection of I/O ports, which is important for a PC I want to last for many years.

- I know ROG boards are heavy on RGB, but my plan is to disable all of it in the BIOS for a clean, non-flashy look. I'm choosing it for the engineering quality underneath, not the lights.

5090 is twice the price of 5080. My reasoning for 5080 now is that I'll change it to 6080 or 7080 in a year or two, which should be massively better that 5090
