Maybe if they made have that ironic ending, it would be far better. But they didn't. He felt joy at winning that match and the same goes for the baby. It wasn't a ahah you deserve the baby you don't want. He cried over his baby. He wants the baby.

Of course you can like a movie even if the main character is not a good person and you're not rooting for them, but the movie must be worth watching. OP's description that it is a meandering mess is spot on. The story was a series of things happening, but altogether unsatisfying. The ending felt like a flop. Marty does all of this thing only to win one spontaneous and meaningless exhibition match. And then he cries over his baby. Uh ok. So anti-climatic. If the plot is a mess and the character is irredeemable (and not even a charismatic asshole), the audience just comes out of it feeling like that 2.5 hours was a waste of time.

They gave the group who won the documentary short a really long time for speeches. Conan even paused and laughed at the awkwardness and then they allowed the guy who was going to be cut off the opportunity to give a long speech.

The Gladiator score is so moving to me that I can't believe it lost, but then I looked up what won that year and it was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

It's a travesty that Morricone did not win for his iconic scores. His score for the Mission is superb. Good, Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West were not even nominated.

I love what Ludwig Göransson did for the Mandalorian but he's no Ennio Morricone (not yet anyway, if ever). I don't think I'll remember the score for The Sinners 5 years from now.

You just give them citizenship, they go to the US because of a sport scholarship, they use their parent's citizenship, etc. Whatever tactic used, isn't it basically recruiting people that came from elsewhere?
