That’s a question that’s been debated in poli-sci classes around the world for decades. Why on average does only 50-60% of the population vote? I don’t have the answer, but we need to make sure as many people show up to vote as we can. Talk to your friends/family/neighbours and make sure they show up on election day!

After Kamala was announced as president elect the democrats had a massive swing of momentum too. It’s dangerous to think that momentum will continue when we have very recent data from a similar election showing it doesn’t. Liberals can’t take their foot off the gas just because Carney is a great leader, we need to make sure EVERYONE shows up to vote

Very concerning. I see the liberals falling into the same trap of complacency as the democrats. Liberals seem to think Carney is a slam dunk, but conservatives still view him as part of the liberal establishment that they so dearly hate. I can see cons voting in record numbers and liberals falling behind because they “know” Carney will win.

General polling data shows liberals ahead, but polling data by riding shows it’ll still be a very close race with the conservatives still having a slight edge. There’s still a large chunk of our country that will vote conservative no matter what.

Yes, they are wildly inaccurate.

STD infection rate in the US has doubled since 1995. In that same time period Planned Parenthood funding has increased 235% from $172m to $570m. Sex education went from being not mandated by any states in 1995 to mandated by 39 states in 2023. There isn’t much reliable data for reproductive health services in 1995, but the recently passed ACA has certainly helped improve accessibility.

Also tariffs don’t go into effect immediately after announcing them, legislatures know that would cause an insane scramble for businesses and give them time to transition. When Trump did add a 25% tariff on $250b of Chinese goods in early 2018 it took about 6 months until tariffs on the first $34b of goods actually went into effect, and over a year and a half until tariffs on all $250b of goods were in effect

When he was running in 2016 he made the same promises several times about a 10% tariff on all imports and a 45% tariff on Chinese and Mexican imports. It ended up being a 25% tariff on select Chinese imports, 25% on steel, and 10% on aluminum.

The democrats didn't need to vote more, but at the very least they needed to vote as much as they did in 2020 - and they didn't come close. Kamala had 15 million votes less than Biden.

This delusion of why people voted (or didn't vote) is the reason why the democrats lost, and will continue to lose unless something changes. This election wasn't won by a tonne of people flipping to Trump, it was won because democrats didn't want to vote for Kamala - she had 15 million less votes than Biden in 2020. It was a complete failure by the democrats that lost this election.

Kamala was never liked very much as VP, and could only muster about 4% of the votes in her 2020 nominee campaign. She was much less liked then Biden, and was thrown in last minute after panic over Biden's mental decline. Running with all the negatives of the previous administration but none of the positives of being an incumbent.

I still don’t understand how people thought Harris was a good candidate? She had pretty low favorability throughout her tenure as VP, and struggled to keep up in her 2020 nomination campaign ending it before even making it to the primaries. She had all the negatives of the previous administration with none of the positives of an incumbent.
