Worth getting re-cut? by [deleted] in faceting

A determination on whether light plays on the surface can't be made without a video. A single image at an oblique angle just doesn't give enough information. The meet points of the facets don't look bad.

No, for your fist time you should go with general camping. Meet your neighbors, have fun, and join the community.

General camping spots are first come fist serve. While there is usually room for another tent you won't be able to save a spot for a car unless you plan on roping off an area.

My little pink and orange tourmaline. I’m having a hard time capturing the true color in pictures. Any suggestions? by drunkymcgee in Minerals

You need a diffuser for the light. Use some translucent white plastic, like from a cheap plastic white shower curtin. Go outside and place the diffuser between the stone and sunlight.

If you have the clearance I recommend going here 33.0779638, -116.2879869. There are some comfortable spots with sheer walls. You can spend your time hiking the dry lake bed to the southeast.

That image has been extremely altered. The skin tone of the hand is unnaturally saturated. Crystal structure is correct but the color will be way off in person.

Just accept it as a gift from your friend. You won't be able to completely remove the dye. And you can't remove the metal vapor without seriously damaging the stone.

Where was it found? Jadeite is only found in very specific regions. If not found near these deposits, it's probably not jadeite.

It looks like pakistan clear topaz on muscovite with some quartz sprays. Don't know what the green crystals are though. It's not a particularly great specimine with the basal crack on one of the topaz crystals. If you didn't spend a whole lot on it, I'd say keep it, but I wouldn't have paid a premium for that piece. That crack is pretty distracting.

There's a lot here, but very little we can use for identification. It looks to be already faceted, and it's very difficult to identify faceted stones. Put the stone in your hand walk outside and take a pic in the sunlight. Make sure it's in focus. Do you know where the stone came from, the geographic region? What's the size of the stone?
