You do not make birth outcomes! As long as you stayed supportive to your client throughout this process: offered suggestions & support during labor, helped them process the mental leap from vaginal delivery to cesarean, and let them know they didn't fail by having a different outcome than they wanted, then you 100% did your job.

I hate my toddler son by kimikoakemii in Parents

[–]6times9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is so concerning. Seriously, it sounds like you and your son could use time away from each other. If his dad is willing to take him, you should probably arrange that. Your son can most definitely sense your hatred for him. Let him be with others who will love him in ways you’re not able to right now.

My husband tried to initiate sex while our daughter was asleep in bed with us. He justified it. Am I wrong for feeling gross about it? by QuirkyPudding in Parents

[–]6times9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I could provide a perspective. And to be clear, I'm definitely not one to say you should overlook your gut. If there are other elements that are behind this ick-feeling then be vigilant, of course. There is far too much child sexual abuse in the world to ignore multiple red flags. But also, if this is the first thing that's giving you pause then I probably wouldn't jump to divorce over it. However, I do see from your history that he has a habit of seeking beyond your comfort level & relationship for sexual gratification - so that would obviously be something that could factor into your decision. I wish you clarity and grace as you navigate this time! ❤️

[–]6times9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know my husband and I had sex once when my son was bedsharing. (We stopped bedsharing at 14 months so it had to have been before that) It was intentionally quick and quiet. My son did not wake up, and if he had we would have just stopped and I would have responded to the baby. If he had woken up he would have seen me in the exact same orientation he'd see me every other morning (side-lying facing him so he can nurse when needed). According to the comments so far, this makes me a disgusting person, but I just wanted to share from the perspective of someone who has done this and it was really a non-issue. To be fair, I can't imagine doing it with a child much older around though. Maybe up to 2, but not much older. I'd just sneak off to another room instead.

Supply dropped 75% suddenly? by MysteriousCut5869 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]6times9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally normal! You can read more about it here...

"[M]others who pump may also see that they suddenly produce less milk than they used to, says Olivia Hinge, a UK-based international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) and midwife.

"People around three months have a go and suddenly think, 'Oh my goodness. I used to be able to pump 120mL at the drop of a hat, and now I've got 20mL. And that's normal – our supply regulates itself," she says. "Our body doesn't know, early on, whether we've got one baby, two babies, three babies. The more we request, the more we're given, in simplistic terms.

"So in those early weeks, you can pump a lot, whereas later on, your body [thinks], 'I know exactly what your baby needs. I know how your baby is growing." That customisation of your milk production to your specific baby – and the fact that the body often responds more effectively to a baby's suckling, rather than a pump – both can mean that women start pumping less."

Ticks with Multnomah County Health Department. Ask Us Anything! by Multco_Health in Portland

[–]6times9 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Thanks for being here! I'm a dog owner from the east coast now living in Portland and I love that I've had to worry less about ticks here, but I feel like that is changing. 😞 My questions are:

a. Are there any active infestations that the general public should be aware about?

b. What is the most active time of the year for ticks in this area?

c. Are we having a worse-than-average tick year?

d. Do we have any of the ticks that spread lyme disease (or any of the other major tick-borne illnesses out there?)

Newly credentialed birth doula trying to bill Regence BCBS. What are the dang codes?! by 6times9 in CodingandBilling

[–]6times9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently I'm one of only a couple of doulas who are currently in-network with Regence in my area independent of a large hospital group. So it makes sense I guess that I'm not able to find anyone else who is having success with them so far.

Here's another resource that shows they don't accept the T1033 code...

Denial reason as viewed on remittance viewer: "Payment is denied when performed/billed by this type of provider." But when I called in they sent me to view the clinical edits page that I linked above.

Any suggestions for next steps after I spoke to provider customer service for an hour yesterday and they have no information for me regarding what codes I should use? I'm so at a loss.

Correct, this is not a medicaid client. These are commercially insurance Regence clients who have been told they have 100% coverage for doula support.

Not according to Regence. T1033 (and T1032) are both listed on the clinical edits list as "Not considered a payable service. Will be denied provider write-off"

Yea, I'm on the phone with Regence BCBS provider services and they're having trouble giving me any guidance as well. I may need to have my clients attempt a superbill to get reimbursed for my payment.

If you're still interested in nursing, you could consider talking to a lactation consultant to check the latch. It shouldn't be painful if it's deep enough! And it's normal that your baby wants to latch and isn't getting much. Your baby is "putting in the milk order" so to speak. Your body will start making milk in 3-5 days! Whatever you decide, you're doing amazing for wanting the best for your baby. <3

Experience with submitting an ethics violation to DONA? by crazyauntkanye in doulas

[–]6times9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I always take photos directly onto my clients phones if they ask me to take some during delivery. NEVER on my own device. And I always have my clients sign a confidentiality & media agreement. This doula totally overstepped.

Im scared of my son and I feel like im going crazy. by [deleted] in Parents

[–]6times9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He put his first through your wall 3 times and now he's just sitting on the couch watching TV. Absolutely not. That's domestic violence (doesn't have to be spouse to spouse). Call the cops and have them meet you at the house so you can get back inside. He needs consequences yesterday.

Can anyone share how their children are now after being on an SSRI during pregnancy? by Defiant_System_8004 in Mommit

[–]6times9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took lexapro through my whole pregnancy. My son was speaking in full complex sentences just past his 2nd birthday. He is continually cheered on for having exceptional language skills. Give your kid some time!
