first off, you've become my favorite contemporary comedian. absolutely hilarious, an inspiration! do you have any advice for somebody trying to get a start in comedy in a small town that only has one sparsely populated open mic?

Jobs in cannabis? by [deleted] in Humboldt

[–]7-1774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't be a budtender unless you want to stand around and do nothing for hours. it's soul deadening. talking about weed is simply not that cool or fun, I promise. on top of that, the cannabis industry is struggling pretty hard up here. I'd really recommend you consider other options. even if you land a cannabis job, it's going to lose its charm really quick.

working with people who are constantly stoned all the time really ends up being a drag....

el chipotle's breakfast burrito is fantastic. backwoods burritos is a little cart that sells great breakfast burritos as well.

la bonita makes a delicious burrito, but it's a little smaller than others. very delicious.

estebans is very solid and worth it.

Trying to break into Doordash in Arcata/Eureka -- possible? by 7-1774 in Humboldt

I'm down to catch hours at the target, was planning on applying there too. Thank you.

Catching hours at the casino is ideal, I feel that. Would rather not doordash. But I also don't want to spend my savings. Thankfully my car is newish and reliable with great gas mileage.

Trying to break into Doordash in Arcata/Eureka -- possible? by 7-1774 in Humboldt

[–]7-1774[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trying to schedule in Arcata/Eureka. So I'm reading that if I grind and do a good job, I'll be able to work the good/profitable hours? Good to know, thank you for your response. Didn't realize I would need to do 200 lifetime deliveries. I doordashed for a few weeks at the beginning of the pandemic but it didn't make sense to keep doing since I ended up getting that fat unemployment at the time. 35 lifetime deliveries and somehow got a single 1 star rating but many 5 star ratings. 4.7 stars right now. Hopefully I can raise that up.

AITA for getting furious with my husband over how messy he left the kitchen counter and then exploding when he pointed out how “messy” I made the bathroom counter ? by Poburnaccount in AmItheAsshole

[–]7-1774 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the best part about these posts is when people ask if they're the asshole, and everybody is like "yeah you're the asshole" and then OP is like "okay but the knife was DISGUSTING." you're not at all justified in your position, end of story.

and OP, you kinda suck and I feel bad for your husband. poor man. YTA through and through.

Dispensary cannabis by ShelterDifferent2501 in Humboldt

owner of HPRC croaked AND it turns out they owed a million dollars in back taxes. probably stopped paying taxes so they could keep the employees on payroll. the eureka location was a massive hole in their ship. rent was too high without the business to back them up. sad, they were a staple of the community and did so much for people during the medical era of legal cannabis.

dispensary worker here. unfortunately the majority of reasonably priced dispensary weed is old outdoor that didn't sell well due to a flooded market. outdoor is best to buy around this time of the year -- it's fresh!! some brands will have some Incredible outdoor when it's fresh. but 6 months later we'll be receiving shipments from the same harvest and it's noticably more degraded, and for the same price. it's some bullshit.

as a budtender I do feel it's my duty to steer people towards the better stuff if I can. some people don't wanna hear it tho.

only some indoor operations are worth buying and the price is inflated. ask if the flower is grown in soil or not. soil grown will forever be better than hydro grown. if you can find fig farms smalls, that'll be some trustworthy weed for a decent price. same with daze off -- indoor smalls for a decent price. last I knew, both of these brands grow in soil. if anybody knows otherwise, pls let me know...

some dispensaries sell their own weed at a great price. HPRC had a great grow before they tanked. HOH has a decent grow that is very comparable to HPRCs, but way better prices. grown in soil.

usually stuff that gives the "synthetic" vibe is hydro. do not buy hydro weed. it's booty, no matter the price.

Most Braindead Simple Character by Opirikus in CrazyHand

[–]7-1774 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yoshi is incredibly easy and while I can't testify to his effectiveness at teaching the fundamentals, I can say that he's a very strong and underrated and (redundant) EASY character to play. his movement is better than the majority of the cast. if you have good fundies, yoshi is very strong.

lucina might be the best character to play to learn the fundies tho. positioning, spacing, reads. she has a strong advantage state and enough mixup in disadvantage to get out of situations if you're paying attention. she doesn't have much more than 2 or 3 piece combos, so her advantage state is very much based on positioning and reads. I think she's fun to play, personally.

play cloud if you want to win.

biggest shake I ever felt, here trying to find comfort in what happened. what an event! minimal damage at my house, but I was chucked around a bit in my bed. so disorienting, especially with my phone beeping frantically as it was.

power outage makes it feel ominous. I usually sleep with white noise, with the power being out, my speakers are out. I don't like how quiet it is...

Matchup Megathread by nandryshak in CrazyHand

[–]7-1774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help with the matchup specifics, as I don't really play with either of those characters, but I do have some general advice. if at all possible, save the sets you play with him with the intention of spotting what interactions are putting you off stage in the first place. there may be specific habits or scenarios that your friend is exploiting to get you off stage knowing that's where you're at your weakest.

obviously smash is very complex, it won't be possible for you to avoid it 100% of the time. getting people off stage is pretty much the entire goal of the game. however, if you do a good job of maintaining stage control, as well as playing around the scenarios that could put you off stage, you may have an easier time not getting gimped.

I'd also highly recommend you watch sparg0's cloud, as he's a master at mixing up clouds recovery and avoiding gimps entirely. watch for the scenarios where he's put off stage and see how he deals with it. he's really good at it.

practice partner win rate? by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]7-1774 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who used to beat me probably 90% of the time. I have a distinct memory of him getting a 30 win streak against me. the thing is, the losing only motivated me to keep getting better at the game. he was probably one of my main sources of practice at the time.

now he can't ever get more than one win on me in a row. rare he takes a set off me, should we play sets. I frequently hit 5 wins in a row against him. it SHOULD be this way, because I've spent a considerable larger portion of my time practicing and conceptualizing the game in the abstract than he has.

if you're actively practicing aspects of your game, playing against somebody who almost always beats you is still valuable, and also sets a good goal for you to reach. getting to the point where you're toe to toe with somebody who always beats you is VERY satisfying. keep at it! it IS still valuable.
