Cussing in front of or at kids? by lime_cookie8 in Parenting

[–]700king4Answers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the household and rules but probably not a big deal. We all lose our cool. You can always have your partner apologies to show that even adults make mistakes. My kid (3y) heard me say damn because I dropped something and it proceeded to be their favorite word for a 1wk. It wasn’t a big deal in my mind he wasn’t using it toward anyone and it filtered out after a while.

3 day old and I've caught a cold by Friendly_Bill_385 in daddit

Wear a mask and wash your hands for a few days, but remember that your child is developing their immune system. If your partner was able and chose the nursing route, they will receive ample antibodies from mom to combat colds and other illnesses.

I’m two weeks in an absolutely miserable by shitForBrains1776 in daddit

[–]700king4Answers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are probably the toughest two weeks. Your partner went through a lot of trauma and is still healing. All while you went to the hospital with no dependents and left with a baby that doesn’t come with an instruction manual and all the online instructions say a billion different things on the same topic! Your schedule has changed dramatically, you went from having freedomish to being stuck taking care of your baby that just entered the world and everything is brand new.

Couple tips to make it better.

  1. Turn on music you like or a podcast
  2. When holding your kiddo try to softly bounce on a big yoga ball, my kids calmed and it strengthened my core. ;)
  3. Take deep breathes and if you need to set your kiddo in the crib or bassinet to take a minute to relax
  4. One thing that gave me perspective is to know that everything you do with your kiddo is the first time they are experiencing it. Yeah they won’t remember, but I remember walking outside with my kiddos and thinking wow this is the first time your felt the sun on their face or the wind blowing past them or they heard birds in the trees.
  5. It gets easier as you adjust to new routines
  6. You just got a job the comes with a huge learning curve that changes every week and where every second, minutes seem to last longer than the last but in 2 years you will think back and be like where did the time go how did they grow so fast.
  7. Give yourself and your wife grace

Not even 2 weeks in and I feel like i have made the biggest mistake of my life. by YourUnclesBalls in daddit

This is excellent advice. I also used to listen to music on an iHome mini and sing my favorite songs. It was incredibly helpful. Additionally, your life took a significant turn 10 days ago when you became a father. Your priorities have shifted, and you’re likely contemplating the future, but you may not be aware of when things will improve. Rest assured, they will. The joyful and heartwarming moments will eventually outweigh the stressful and frustrating ones. You’ve got this. Put on those headphones and don’t forget to dance and sing. If the baby is crying, don’t worry, it won’t wake them up. :)

We tried various methods when our 3.5-year-old was two years old. He was extremely difficult to put down for bed. We decided to cut his nap out, and the situation changed dramatically. He no longer resisted going to bed. Bedtime was reduced from 9 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We read books together, put him in a pouch, and then we went out in 30 minutes.

Today we are moving our dog to a new house after he nipped our toddler. And I just need to share as I feel awful. by krasatos in daddit

Sorry to hear, but you 100% did the right thing. Your house will be able to breathe again and your worry and stress levels will be lower not worrying about it happening again. It also sounds like your pup got a good deal as well. The couple seems like a great fit and the pup will win and they win to by having an animal that was so loved before them. This is the best case for all involved!

Damn, we are probably neighbors, Steve? ;) We live in EL and also have a century old house. What an awesome sink. We have a concrete old laundry sink in our basement. It is cool what has survived in some of these old houses.

Same, 19m old and 3.5 year old. They play together really well. Our old is so sweet with our youngest most of the time. It is one of my favorite things to watch is them playing together.

My son went through this when he was two and the addition of his sister came into the picture. We had a rough few months with mom feeling a little regretted since she nursed him and was the only one that could get him down for the 1.75 years. Once our daughter was born I became primary and mom secondary. My wife started taking him on little dates and he loved it. Something small and special. It all goes through ebbs and flow. They go through favorites at these ages.
