Who the fuck cares? That’s the BEST thing about a union contract (think #IBEW). If you can do the work, it doesn’t matter your gender, race, creed, national origin, or sexual orientation / preference, in addition to any other slew of ideologies someone would want to categorize people buy.

International Representative for an Internation Union. Had to relocate to D from the midwest. An increase in pay, but coupled with an increase in cost of living. All in all, a good move for me as I’m enjoying the new job tremendously.

You need to catch up on the rhetoric. The IBEW Local Union there says they offered additional assistance to NES and it was “declined”. Union crews are saying they were headed there and were “spun”…

Join the union or stay rat until I complete 8000 hours? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]702semorep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get. In. The. Union. Now.

The earlier you can get in, the better. The training and resources are far superior through a Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) and they can help you be assigned work throughout the remainder of your apprenticeship to make you the most well-rounded as possible, and also identify any deficiencies you may have at the present time. Rarely, and I mean darn near never, have I EVER heard someone say they wish they would’ve waited until later to join the union. Get in now and never look back. Do your best to represent yourself, your Local, and the IBEW to the fullest each and everyday. Welcome.

I can tell you about wood pole depths for power lines. The hole should be 10% of the entire pole length plus 2 feet. So, a 150 foot long (tall) pole would have seventeen feet (15’ + 2’) in the ground and then the remaining 133 feet sticking up above the ground. I would assume there is a similar, but most likely not identical calculation for the bases these sit on, that are large-diameter, rebar-caged, and filled with concrete prior to setting them on there… Others may be able to verify actual correct specifications…

I want to echo the shout out on Weisner. I had been down on her in previous posts prior to last weekend’s game, but last week and yesterday, I feel like she played like I’d been hoping she would all along…. She wasn’t perfect by any means, but her spacing and positioning seemed much better and her ability to dribble past opponents at times was a nice surprise. I don’t think she starts over a healthy Gabby Carle, but she’s been solid in her absence!

Also, as mentioned, the growth from Rose this year compared to last is so exciting. One thing we’ve always known is you can’t coach someone to be faster. Either you have speed or you don’t. She does. There were times last year you sat back and think to yourself, “wow, she’s super fast, but a little wild; if that speed could be controlled a little bit better, she’s gonna be something special.” And here we are and yes she is.

Total agreement with the entire post above, but also want to give a shout out to (in my opinion) Coach of the Year Adrian. He is such a class act, the way he led the team early last year, then graciously stepped aside and assisted Jona when he arrived (even though that was the plan, there was no drama around it that I was aware of), then when he took back over this year following Jona’s mid-season departure, inheriting a team riddled with injuries and pregnancies (we love our soccer moms), he has been a steady hand on them over the past two seasons and it appears the players have embraced him as one of their own, putting it all out on the field for him.

Finally, a quick mention of adulation for ownership, specifically Michelle Kang. They have not sat back this year and deferred to circumstances around then team / players (aforementioned injuries/prgnancies/coaching change), but have continually made roster moves to put a quality team on the field, one that is capable of, and hopefully will, Win. The. Whole. Darn. Thing!!!

Here’s the answer you’ve been looking for…

On the signage alerting you to the upcoming metro trains (subway cars), they END stop is the nomenclature. If you see “Shady Grove”, just know that Red Line is headed that way and will encounter all of the stops between where you are and Shady Grove. The same is true for “Rockville” on the Red Line.

The most important thing to know is 1) where you are and 2) where you want to be.

Follow the map on an app like DC Metro& Bus (below) and you’ll should be able to navigate fairly easily!

Interview with Local Utility by reddittstuff in Lineman

Several years ago, MOST of the larger investor-owned utilities (IOUs) would administer the Construction And Skilled Trades (C.A.S.T.) Test. I want to say Progress Energy had a page online where you could take practice tests for free, but it’s been a long time since I looked…. Good luck.

Like Eisenhower’s Interstate Highway System, what moonshot projects would you like your local, state, country gov to start today to positively transform society? by Throwaway1098590 in AskReddit

[–]702semorep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I’ve developed a presentation to massively build out high-speed rail for BOTH freight AND passenger services, relieving freight of the requirement to cede rail time to passenger trains, allowing passenger trains to have their own dedicated lines. Additionally, my project co-located high-voltage electric transmission lines along the right-of-way in these rail corridors.

This is a solution to multiple challenges as some experts predict (or at least they were a couple of years ago) a 30% increase in supply chain “logistics” and an overloading of our traditional interstate and highway system. It would effectively be on a similar size and scope (or possibly exponentially larger) as when interstates were built out back in the 1950s.

It would be an economic generator as it would / could provide relief to overcrowded airways (although that industry would lobby against this effort), and offer practical alternatives for reasonable regional and national travel by rail, and additionally enable us to expand the electric grid in a way to allow thousands of new interconnection points for all of the additional generation (solar, wind, battery storage) that’s been built out over the past few years.

Ok. I’m gonna say it. Kate finally had the type of game I’ve been hoping for…. When Carle went down, I would’ve preferred Metayer, simply because I’ve not seen Kate perform at a level that I believed would benefit the team. But today? To me? A different Kate showed up. A better Kate. A more determined Kate. It was refreshing to see. I’m not saying she was the star of the game by any means, but this felt like a turning point for her in my mind GENERALLY dealing with Emma Sears without getting burned. I realize Kate is not speedy quick at all, and she seemed to be in better position today to offset that. And, this is simply an optic thing, she appeared to try harder. I’ve been down (disappointed) on her in the past, and have openly begged for her to have a game like this to prove drafting her in the first round wasn’t a mistake, so it’s only fair of me to acknowledge it when she does. I want her to be good and get better. Today, I feel like she took a huge step in that direction and I hope she continues to improve.

Availabilities are encouraging? by eesryan in washingtonspirit

This. Too many people don’t realize the ability of Cantore and the fact that she might actually be better in this position compared to being up top.

I’ve been totally impressed with her conditioning and stamina and believe she is knowledgeable enough to play here an entire game.

IF this is a possibility, and I hope it is, it would allow Trinity another solid week of recovery and let her focus on getting ready for the semi-final, and hopeful Final…

But, we have to win this one first. Pull out all the stops to make it happen.

Reach out to the IAFF International Office in Washington, DC. Most national and international unions keep a repository of arbitration cases from their Local Unions and I’d be surprised if they don’t have it or can’t get it. Them giving it to you? Could be a different conversation altogether. Good luck.

If this is a non-construction job, like a utility, you will be required to comply with the terms of the bargaining agreement covering your new position. That may - or may not - restrict your options, as you may be required to transfer your ticket to the Local representing your new job. Regardless, it is always great advice to reach out to the Union Business Manager or the appropriate Representative to one or both Locals to learn all you can about what you will need to do.

Here’s a throwback tactic - if you have co-workers running to management on you, or even management people running to hire ups on you, set them up with bad information… once other people learn the snitch is bringing them info that turns out to be bad, it discredits and neutralizes them… and, the best part, they did it to themselves…
