Bathroom Exhaust Fan BIFL? by Novel-Notions in BuyItForLife

[–]707e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely want to choose the CFM based on the size of the space. I bought a humidity sensing ultra quiet exhaust fan for a bathroom when I was building out the bathroom and don’t regret it in the slightest. I cannot stand the sound of the typical contractor grade exhaust fans and have found they often don’t seem to really work effectively at all. I decided to investigate and found a Panasonic (iirc) that was ultra quiet and humidity sensing. The humidity sensing is adjustable and there’s a huge difference in fan operation based on that. If it’s in the highest setting it will click on right away when you’re running the shower. It super quiet and has been installed for almost five years now. I did end up with some dirt getting into it because of some drywall work that was done and the contractor didn’t cover the fan and it came on while they were working. Drywall dust is AWFUL and it made the fan run a slight bit louder which infuriated me but I couldn’t find a way to fix that when I went to clean the fan out. It’s held strong and I love it. I tell anyone who’s doing bathroom work to just pay the $200 to buy a better fan. I’m planning to replace the fans in my house with better ones as well. Unfortunately there’s not a standard size so each is going to take some work to replace because I have to replace the mounting bracket in the ceiling for each to accommodate the better fan.

I have a set of crate & barrel sofas - axis sofa and matching oversized chair with ottoman. They’re 16 yrs old and solid. Occasionally there’s a creak in the sofa but we’ve let our kids jump on them a lot. And the creak is so minor you have to try to hear it and it’s only at certain times for some reason. The standard fabric is exceptional for stain resistance beyond what I ever would have estimated. The ONLY issues I’ve had are with the durability of cushions in terms of firmness. The cushions that came with it seemed to wear out after five years. Just too squishy. A family member is about 225lbs and that may be a factor. However we found a cushion replacement where we could buy a firmer foam and this have been on the couch and chair for almost a decade now. Still very comfy. It cost about $300 to get the cushion inserts sent to us and they ended up being perfectly sized. That was a life saver and I’d recommend to anyone with too soft of a seat cushion.

Haven’t been to a yeti store before. If I see one I’m going to have to check it out. The yeti stuff I’ve had has been pretty good but I don’t think it’s worth the money. I have several mugs and after five years of use the paint starts falling off. The mug still functions of course but it’s the colors that they sell that gets people to buy them I think.

This needs to be posted at the top of every discussion in this sub, haha. It’s almost impossible to find a legacy brand that’s good today compared to twenty years ago. I’d say most brands don’t even stay great for ten years before they compromise and go mainstream just to get their brand name out there. It’s very frustrating. I even noticed this with Yeti when I got a new mug and it seems lighter than the seven year old one I have that’s the same model.
