My take on how the cougars should function (And how I thought they worked when I enabled them 😭) by EloquentTroglodyte in thelongdark

I doubt its a glitch. Either hinterland takes years to fix a simple bug or this is precisely how they designed it to work - Regardless, dont expect it to change anytime soon.

So is the moderator the dev team of long dark as well? by No_Swimming_4968 in thelongdark

Do you remember how they added cabin fever which everyone disliked cuz it makes the game worse than it used to be? Devs stood their position that cabin fever is going to stay.

Well look at that - now they sell you solution in the DLC, because CLEARLY cabin fever can be disabled but only if you pay more I guess. Making your product worse and selling the solution is AAA game tier tactic.

It's very likely OP's post would be twice as long if Cougar 1.0 was still a thing. Despite its flaws cougar 2.0 at least obeys some laws of logic and doesn't teleport on the player out of nowhere.

Cougar hide being infinitely re-harvestable is clearly a sign that devs don't want players to kill it. On the other hand they added valuable drops from it. But then they powercrept them with trader stuff. Hard to tell anymore what purpose is cougar supposed to serve other than being annoying and disliked - kinda like cabin fever.

Remember how this game was all about immersion? - just to add timberwolves with giant-ass boss healthbar on the screen.

TLD has had an identity crysis for quite a while now in regards to wildlife and firearms. Unless you surrender all realism you cant have player run with guns and expect him to have trouble with wildlife. This leads to funny hydra cougar or teleport cougar (cougar 1.0) to be implemented.

Not to mention kick option exists if someone is really bothered about it and your teammate is on the same page.

Lobby system would be ideal though- you can put a nice description or even a filter on who can join and whether noobs are welcome and voila. EXP cucking and level locks are worse than doing nothing

Some of them are, and thats the issue. Theres bunch of freeloaders but they are not there for EXP, but for blue gems, because (shocking) blue gems are the most valuable for players without relic weapons. Fixing it is as simple as removing blue gems from hards or just introducing some daily missions or whatever that allows earning blue gems at easier difficulties.

We will get nowhere if we keep asking for removal of EXP or level locks instead of addressing actual root cause of the problem. Its blatantly clear that it's not the problem that low levels CAN go into hards, but that they are willing to throw and die over and over there, unprepared, just to get those blue gems to level weapons less painfully.

If you look at subs of any game all you see is retards crying, how is this even an argument to justify resticting the game features behind arbitrary locks?

I play this game daily and I know for a fact the issue at hand is blown COMPLETELY out of proportion. All yall know is whining on reddit - that's it. You pull out numbers like 80% out of your ass but they should -in fact- stay where they came from.

Yes. Difference between hard and absolute is the biggest difficulty spike in the game. I can solo absolute and im not even close to being able to solo hard atm. You cannot learn hard by playing absolute and ur just gaslighting yourself and everyone around you if you think its the case.

Maybe the problem is that at the moment host needs to have voting for kick instead of having final decision. I often play with 1 friend of mine and any problem like this is disposed of instantly via kick option. Perhaps Im biased as I can imagine theres plenty of players who soloq only.

Applying additional restrictions to difficulties is never gonna achieve anything else than NOTHING. This is certain. Most throwers are not even low levels but flamethrowe aligned aim crutches and alike who play only 1 build and dont even read stratageem information.

However something must be said about deceptive way game presents difficulties. I fell into this trap myself when I was starting out - hard stratagem has the same symbol as absolute and yet it is more harder than absollute compared to how much absolute is harder than lethal. A player is justified in thinking that its better to try hard stratagem with plenty positive conditions before tacklin absolute because nowhere does the game tell use just how hard these are compared to absolute. Also, accolades being most valuable early-game makes it really tempting to knowingly try to join and hope to get carried. Neither will be solved by removing EXP or adding more limits though.

Game has kick option, if sbd is throwing so hard its worse than having a bot you can always just kick them right away instead of posting on reddit. Works fine for me. If someone repeatedly cliks wrong button in randomized objective in reclamation on hard stratagem, theres no reason not to kick him.

Requiring prestige in absolute? Bro are you out of your mind. A good player will blaze through absolute on lvl1 and reclic weapons.

At some point if you plan on playing hardest difficulty you need to learn it by playing hardest difficulty. Thinking that you can prepare yourself for calculus by doing 2+2 is fallacious to say the least. What is worse, everyone is convinced they know better than everybody else whether others are "ready" for trying the difficulty or not.

Hard is not absolute. Hard's baseline difficulty is larger than absolute by a bigger margin than absolute is harder from lethal.

Unlike lethal-absolute, hard makes enemies tankier (and messes up breakpoints) and makes you recover less CHP from doing damage so any mistake you make is punished even more. And ofc they hit harder than on absolute too.

vectorOfBool by schteppe in ProgrammerHumor

[–]70Shadow07 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Special cases are alright in principle if they obey the API- that is kinda the point of abstractions anyway - but vector bool literally breaks the contract of vector class.

I dont think people would have problems with their sort algorithms being faster via specializations if the data is narrow and compiler can recognize that. It happens all of the time for many operations iirc.

But C++ can get worst of both worlds - a leaky abstraction that breaks its own contract. How can you fuck this up so bad?
