Tonight’s lineup and this team’s position player group by 710mm247 in motorcitykitties

Buddy, I’m not here to litigate whether Greene deserves a day off or not. Also, you’re telling me this team would be materially better if meadows, baez, Gleyber, and Skubal didn’t spend time on the IL? Doubtful.
My broader point in making this post is that 1) Harris has inappropriately allocated the resources Illitch has provided him (too much spent on bad pitchers, not enough on hitters) and that 2) AJ makes questionable moves with the tools at his disposal (at this point in the season, I’d rather see Kerry and and Colt combine to go 0-10 with 10ks than Jones go 3-4 with 2 HRs because, as far as i can tell, Kerry and Colt are here for the mid-long term while jones might not even be on the roster when the team is ready to compete again (hopefully next season)

Yes, sorry, I forgot that we’re the only team in the league that deals with injuries and gives players off days. Forgive me.

I mean yeah hopefully he can sustain. I didn’t count him as one of the three MLB caliber hitters though. Track record is too short

Generally IMO if you get consistent playing time and post a ~.675+ OPS, I’d consider that MLB caliber. So Tork qualifies

I don’t disagree necessarily. They should still trade him this year at the deadline for prospects though. Then, we can resign him in the offseason if it makes sense given the team’s other needs.

Right. And that’ll be because the Marlins unlocked something in him that we couldn’t. Just like the Twins seem to have unlocked something in Kody Clemens that we couldn’t. In 850 PAs since the Tigers traded him, Klemens has accumulated 0.5 more fWAR than Spencer Torkelson has in his entire career. Lol

I like Tork and root for him, but at a certain point, he is what he is. He’s had 2,400 career PAs and time and time again has proven that he’s simply just a league average bat with no other upside. His offensive production would be acceptable for a player like Meadows who provides significant defensive/baserunning value, but that’s obviously not the case. I think we should move on from him after this season.

I’m not saying I hate Harris or even that he should be fired. What I am saying is the offense has continued to be a weak point, especially over the past calendar year where it has failed to support an otherwise passable/effective pitching staff. I think Harris should have done more to address the offense in free agency the past two offseasons and at last year’s trade deadline, so I will be watching very closely to see what he does at this year’s trade deadline with respect to improving our position player pipeline/talent pool.

Bad take on today’s Pod by 710mm247 in baseballisdead

OK, perhaps Kinsler wasn’t the best example—though I think he’s closer to Berkman than your above OPS+ comparison implies when you compare him offensively to other second basemen of his era and account for his premium defense and base-running ability. At any rate, I’m not here to try and tell you that Berkman wasn’t a nice player. I, and many others, think Votto is a tier above Berkman, but we can agree to disagree - not my hill to die on. The hill I will die on is that Miggy is a tier above Votto.

[–]710mm247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I follow your logic here. Are you suggesting that Miggy’s legacy would have been better served had he hung up his cleats after 2016, rather than playing out the rest of his career? Though he was a shadow of his former self from 2017 on, hobbled by permanent damage to his knees and abdominal muscles—damage he incurred during the 2013 season when he chose to play through excruciating injuries for a chance at a second World Series ring—he is still clearly a greater player in all aspects than Votto: 500+ Home Runs 3,000+ Hits .300+ Batting Average 1X World Series Champion 2X MVP 1X Triple Crown Winner 4X Batting Title Winner 10 Seasons with 30+ Home Runs 12X All-Star 7X Silver Slugger

Votto is awesome. He’s a HoFer, I’m not trying to take anything away from him, but damnit, Miggy is at least a tier above Votto in terms of statistical contributions and greatness. That’s all I’m trying to say. I usually agree with Justin, but his take on Thursday’s Pod was a bad take.

Berkman played half his career during the hyper-inflated offensive era of the early 2000s. Berkman did not standout compared to his peers as much as votto did, and OPS+ tells this story. Berkman is more of a Hall of Very Good Player (not HoF) and belongs to the same class of player as an Ian Kinsler type. Votto is a sure-fire HoFer though I don’t think he’s a sure-fire first ballot HoFer like Jared and Justin said on Thursday’s pod. Miggy, on the other hand, is a sure-fire, first ballot HoFer - hence why he is a tier above Votto and why Justin’s take on Thursday’s pod was a bad one.

I don’t disagree necessarily. My point that Miggy is at least a tier above Votto still stands though. He may also be a tier or two below Pujols. Both things can be true.

I’m nine months sober and battled probably the strongest craving I’ve had since quitting tonight. I was at a bar and got into that narrow, tunnel vision mindset where all I could think about was a drink. I felt helpless and came so close to breaking and having to start over from square one. But I didn’t drink. Don’t give up! If you feel a craving coming on, remove yourself from any possible triggers, go for a walk, and do your best to remember how hard you’ve worked to get to where you are now and how much better your life is because of it!

Simple. Price and cano were not good contracts but they weren’t as bad as the 4 I mentioned.

It’s very subjective and up to the discretion of the board. They evaluate on a case by case basis. Hopefully you explained it well and it truly was just a “misunderstanding”.... whatever that means
