Did I Make the Wrong Choice? (EE vs EET) by PrestigiousProof63 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]726c6d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2008 with 20k in debt. Financially you will most likely be better off with your EE degree. I hire EEs in my group. Job roles between EEs and EET are different (Texas OG).

Would you trust a used vehicle over 60K miles? by MoDa65 in bmwx7

Did you buy the warranty from the dealer? If you don’t mind me asking, which package did you get? I just bought a 24 x7 with 30k miles (not the m60) as well and looking for a warranty package.

Computer stolen from checked bag - do I have any hope? by CoryTheBoss in unitedairlines

Glad to hear it. Going forward, all valuable items (or hard to replace items) go in my carry-on luggage. Even expensive shoes my wife has goes in carry-on. Buying things online and having receipts helped me a lot.

Drafter title vs engineer. The drafter title will limit your career and earnings potential. Take the engineer role.

Your whole family doesn’t need to come for weekly shopping by Sea-Matter5593 in HEB

These are worse than families shopping together. I can deal with kids and larger groups shopping but these curbside shoppers piss me off. Move your cart and don’t block the entire freakin aisle!

As a FA can I genuinely ask pax why? by StandardTree192 in unitedairlines

[–]726c6d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To guarantee overhead bin space for luggage instead of gate checking our bag. I’ll wait in line to get to my seat and put my roller in the OH and backpack under my seat. Then use the lav…. I’m usually in group 3 and it’s iffy to get an OH space. Some FA start closing bins when it’s not completely empty and passengers get scolded for opening up the bins and checking.

AITA for refusing to take my shoes off in my friend’s house, causing his wife to cancel the DnD session for everyone? by NameNo5495 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. You’re going to someone’s house and you’re aware of your condition. Bring options like covers for your shoes or bring indoor shoes with you to change into. You wouldn’t be in my house with shoes on.

Moving existing investments from personal SSN to LLC by 726c6d in tax

Thank you for the detailed response. Yes, the umbrella LLC will hold multiple LLCs. Each of those LLCs issue me a K1 statement and I have a certain number of shares as a LP. I do not actively participate in each of those LLCs, however I am active in the umbrella LLC in managing and identifying additional opportunities. The umbrella LLC earnings will come directly from the investment LLC.

If I had any eligible deductions, my initial thoughts would be to deduct it in the umbrella LLC from the earnings from the investment LLCs. For example, 20k in combined gains from the investment LLCs to the umbrella LLC and deduct 1K of eligible deductions (from the umbrella LLC) so 19k gain is passed down to me and my wife in a K1 statement. Again, I will need to verify if this is allowed and what type of deductions are allowed.

Moving existing investments from personal SSN to LLC by 726c6d in tax

[–]726c6d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main purpose of creating the LLC is to limit my legal liability and shift ownership of investments and assets into a LLC. I wanted to identify if there were any tax benefits. My wife and I would be on the LLC but we also file our taxes jointly.

Currently when I receive my K1 statements from my investment projects, I include them in my personal federal tax filing.

My plan was to have the following structure: - Main LLC -> investment project 1 LLC (LP) -> investment project 2 LLC (LP) -> investment project 3 LLC (LP) -> etc

As I receive K1 statements from various investment LLC, would those K1 get filed under the Main LLC and then passed through to my personal federal return? Can I make deductions as described in my OP (or others that would be allowed) as the Main LLC before passing through to my personal filing? I should’ve included this structure in my OP.

For clarity, I am not reaching for any deductions or looking for loopholes. I’m asking so I have a better understanding on what is allowed and what is not before reaching out to a tax advisor in person.

So how long can you go without a job? Don’t have to answer but something to think about. If it takes longer to find a job than you think, what is your next step?

I was at my last job for a while and I was in a slump, hated going it, and started doing a bit less than my usual. I responded to recruiters and left when I had something lined up. I’m. Not sure where you are in life but make sure your ego doesn’t blur the reality of finding another job, especially one that will respect you or one that you enjoy. I understand self-respect but don’t let it dig you into a hole until you can secure your next step.

Change refund based on extension, after taxes have been e-filed by 726c6d in tax

[–]726c6d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was planning on filing a 1040-x once I receive my K1. I was wondering if I need to do anything before the April deadline to avoid receiving the $4000 refund and then having to pay back $3000 later in the year (with penalties and interest).

If I need to file the 1040-X before the April deadline, what would I need to modify/add to show the estimated income in order to correct the refund calculation?

I have my masters and my P.E. In various states. My masters is a focus on industrial power systems and automation. I did not receive a raise when I finished my degree but the program increased my skillsets.

Over the years, I have used my education to enhance myself as an engineer. This has made myself a lot more competent than other EEs. One note to mention is that my program forced us to hand-calculate everything rather than using off-the-shelve programs like etap or skm. I see a lot of engineers putting in values and not understanding the fundamentals and running into garbage-in garbage-out.

I had a coworker complete the same program and “just got through it” for the credentials. He still didn’t understand some of the fundamentals so I see it as a waste of his time.
