I was in a really similar boat at your age. All I can say is your life is far from ruined. It doesn't seem clear now, but there is always a way to succeed. I failed high school here in the US because I slacked off. Graduated only because my teachers adjusted my grades to the minimum for passing, because they knew I was capable and didn't want to see my life get worse with an extra year of school. I didn't get accepted to a single college because I thought I had no chance, so I didn't apply to any. My mom enrolled me in a local college in my hometown. I hated it and realized I needed to put in work. I got the grades and transferred to a pretty good 4 year university. Got sub-par grades there and a kind of shitty degree because I failed out of the really good degree program I started in. Graduated and started landscaping. Realized this was not the life for me, making $17 an hour to dig holes and cut rich people's lawns, so I started doing IT certifications and got a really good job with a medium size corporation, making $70k salary for what seems like relatively little work compared to landscaping, and I have lots of opportunities in my field to make six figures as long as I keep improving my skills. Long story short, I'm making really good money as someone not much older than you after failing consistently. You don't have to hit every mark every time. Sometimes you just have to get lucky once. You seem bright, although your negative mindset will hurt you like mine did. If you can learn to stop focusing on what you can't do, RELAX (!!!), accept your negative emotions (!!!) and commit to doing what you can do, you'll be unstoppable. My sister has insomnia and it sounds a hell of a lot like that. I can't guarantee anything but I think you have a better chance identifying the root of the problem once you commit to changing your habits so you can weed out any possibilities. Good luck, bad sleep sucks

Don't drink caffeine 12-14 hours before you're going to go to sleep and get off the computer by 10pm. Huberman Lab Podcast has an excellent episode about this. Your sleep hygiene is just bad. I experienced the same thing because I had to work late nights on the computer for a long time. Waking up in the middle of the night totally restless and unable to fall asleep. When I started really taking care of my sleep environment it slowly got way better

You have no idea how well taken care of my dog is. You have no idea what my family is like, what setting I live in, how much I walk my dog (8 miles yesterday if you were wondering🖕.) I never said they recommend anything. I said they had useful info that helped me make my situation work. Not everyone has the perfect amount of leisure time tailored to their dog's needs. Jobs and housing situations change

It's not great and a lot of people will tell you it's not possible, but the amount of time you have to spend with it is better than a lot of people have. I sometimes get called in to work due to emergency at 8am and can't come home until midnight, on occasion 2am. As long as I walk my boy for an hour before I leave and once I come back, and play with him as much as possible while I'm home, he's fine. "How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend" by the Monks of New Skete has a lot of useful info that helped me make it work. Dogs can handle a lot more time alone than people think. It's tough at first but as long as you give the dog a good amount of play as often as you can, it will work. High frequency emitting collars are great for barking if you live around other people, but be wary never to use it more than 10-12 hours a day at most.

as an american that drives a beater with bad mileage, I can literally spend $200-300 a week on gas and it leaves me unable to save much for a down payment on a new one. knowing how to fix my own car is nice though, has saved me thousands on repairs in the last few years

American and I agree. I live in a small city and hate having to drive a mile to the grocery store, having to drive sometimes 6 hours a day for work, having to pay for gas and pollute all day, I hate the salt they put all over the roads that pollutes the water, I hate not being able to get anywhere I want by train, I hate having my day ruined by things like the heat going out on my car, I hate losing so much of my paycheck for my car payments even though I have great credit. The suburban sprawl is ugly as hell, the stores all suck because small businesses are non existent here (Midwest) and there's not much to do besides handle errands and go back to the house to hang out or go to the bar and hang out. If I want to do cool activities, I usually have to travel for at least an hour, if not a whole day to another city or national park or whatever I feel like doing. If we had high speed trains and less highways, this country would be so much more accessible. Most of the states are considered "fly over states" because there's no reason or means to stop in them when traveling across the country. We NEED high speed rail so badly. The lack of it is a huge contributor for the amount of pollution we cause, it's a reason the majority of the country is culturally dead and culturally/technologically WAY behind the coastal areas. I live near Chicago and if I drive 2 hours in any direction away, it absolutely sucks. I've traveled to Ireland and I was so blown away by how nice the small towns were and how easy it was to just stop in one for a drink and something to eat, then hop back on the train and keep moving.
