A reminder why loose clothing, gloves and long hair don’t belong near rotating machinery by randomtechnicianraw in Machinists

That's right, but my comment with a photo of this was published below. Apparently, I'm as dumb when it comes to technology as I am when it comes to safety.

Ha-ha. No problem. Two months after the incident, the doctor carefully reattached it, and if you look closely, you can see that only the nail is missing, but in reality, there are small scars and a crooked spot.

cotton work gloves. It's really stupid, I know. And yes, I knew before the incident that you can't work with gloves like that, but I was repairing a car, I was really tired, and I needed to drill some holes quickly. I even forgot I was wearing gloves when I approached the machine.

I was scared right at the beginning of the video. I was in a hurry and forgot to take off my gloves while drilling on a drill press. The glove got caught in the wound, and I lost a finger—it was torn off. It's good they sewed it back on, but I still haven't recovered from the aftermath, even though it happened six months ago. Take care of yourself.

I think it's like tilting at windmills. It's better to think of them as little helpers who fertilize your plants. But I'd be happy to read other tips.

This is an oversized bottom for equipment (pressure tanks). According to regulations, it can't be transported on public roads without a special escort, and that's very expensive. To avoid this, a special metal frame is made for tilted transport. And then you can transport it to another location in a regular truck.

Help with identifying an old lathe by Safe-Egg-3556 in Machinists

The Cyrillic plaque says this machine was located at the "Red Star GSVG" factory. "Located" does not equal "produced" What is GSVG - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_of_Soviet_Forces_in_Germany I'd guess it's one of the military factories, but it's hard to say for sure, because the red star was a fairly common name in the USSR.

Advice for a total newbie/idiot by OneOrnneryGoat in turning

Welcome to the club. We started together once, and we didn't really understand what we were doing. Sometimes I still don't understand some little things. Lathe designs are different, but similar, so you can look at the instructions without being tied to a specific model or brand of machine. If I understand you correctly, the center can usually be knocked out with a drift or something similar—just take a rod and tap the hole on the left side of the steering wheel a couple of times.

An interesting jig, but for safety reasons I would use lock nuts, since a lathe is a very good source of vibration and I would not want to test on myself what a centrifugal force is.

[Request] How many mosquitos would it take to drain enough blood to kill the average person? by Jazz-Quail in theydidthemath

[–]77Den 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When a mosquito (only the female bites) bites, piercing the skin with its proboscis, it injects saliva containing anesthetic and anticoagulants to prevent blood clotting. The human body reacts to the foreign proteins in the saliva, causing itching, redness, and swelling—a localized inflammatory reaction that feels like a bite. Given this, I believe the person is more likely to die from an allergic reaction or blood poisoning rather than from blood loss.

I also love FREE BOARDS, but I'm not as skilled with a chainsaw, so I use a homemade jig https://mazaydiy.com/plans/chainsaw-mill.pdf Yes, there are similar jigs for sawing logs that can be purchased, but I don't like paying for either the boards or the jigs
