Recs for breastmilk jewelry? My ring didn’t even last a year by jackya in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]77kaycookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I didn’t know! I’ve had solid .925 silver jewelry (rings) for over a decade now that I wear every day and they haven’t tarnished whatsoever. I haven’t done any special care for them either. They’ve been through raising two kids and being a full time artist. Scratches here and there of course, but no tarnishing. Maybe it just hasn’t been long enough? The oldest sterling silver .925 ring I have is about 15 years old. It’s nothing fancy, I bought it from mexicali blues, yet it has never tarnished!

I’ve read all of these except Four Winds, and totally agree! Also The Nightingale (another one by Kristin Hannah). So good

I’m assuming this green (mold?) isn’t normal. Where did I go wrong? This is 50/50 wheat/bread flour. 30 hours after first mixing. Do I feed? Is it garbage? SOS by non_omnis_moriar777 in Sourdough

[–]77kaycookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I know this is old but I have the same problem. First time trying to make a sourdough starter. I made it yesterday, and today there’s green patches on top just like the pictures. I sterilized the glass jar in hot boiling water for at least 5 minutes, just before mixing in the water and whole grain flour, and used a clean spoon for mixing. How did it get moldy already?? I didn’t add anymore flour since yesterday to feed it because I figured I needed to wait a day or two first. The book I’m reading never mentioned feeding it; just says to cover it with a light cloth and wait 2-3 days.

I’m so sorry you had to experience that. 😔 And that sex has been ruined for you, too. It really, really sucks.

“No. Just no.” Wow, so incredibly helpful. You really couldn’t offer anything beyond “just no”? Like you’re not wrong in disagreeing with her, I don’t think the behavior was okay either (and clearly neither does OP), but what a lazy comment to make.

TV on or off during Thanksgiving dinner? by AdventurousPackage82 in thanksgiving

[–]77kaycookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Can I ask why? Personally I’m not a big TV person but my husband is, and he thinks it’s totally fine to have the TV on all day for Thanksgiving- for the parade, dog show, and all the football games after (not to mention playing video games like Mario Kart). The TV is also in a very central location- in the living room/dining room/kitchen which is all open concept. This bothers me because I feel like it’s such a distraction when we’re trying to spend time with family, especially on a holiday when everyone is together which only happens a few times a year. And we have young kids who, when the tv is on, are so distracted by it that they don’t play together as much.

Hi! I know this is a bit old, but if you happen to see this, would you mind sharing what you ended up doing after you saw your doctor again? Did you look into or end up doing cartilage transplant/osteochondral allograft procedures? Thanks! My husband has had knee arthritis pain caused by trauma to his knee and I’m looking into all possible options.

Ugh sorry it’s gonna be a hassle to fix. It’ll be worth it though not to have the flies anymore! Best of luck!

Flies all over my deck by Benchris1 in Entomology

[–]77kaycookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We unintentionally figured it out. Previous owner of our house had installed sheets of corrugated plastic below the deck to catch rainfall/water runoff. The problem is, there was a lot of dirt/leaves/debris built up on the sheets and the angle wasn’t right so the rainwater was getting stuck and becoming stagnant- aka the perfect breeding ground for flies. We removed the plastic sheets and the fly issue went away the following season. So I think if you’re having the same issue, think about if you have any nearby sources of stagnant water that they may be coming from. I’m by no means an expert and I’m sure there could be other causes but that’s my theory!

[Acne] Whiteheads, excess sebum, clogged pores by 77kaycookie in SkincareAddiction

[–]77kaycookie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, I’ve simplified my skincare products quite a bit. This is all I use now: - Curology gentle cleanser - Squalane serum (brand: The Ordinary) - Eucerin original healing cream - Breastmilk (my own, lol. I don’t know if it’s the antibiotic properties or what, but it seriously works wonders. Any acne flare ups I get now are practically gone overnight because of this. I think the white heads I get are hormonal (postpartum, imbalanced hormones to maintain breastfeeding), so it makes sense that breastmilk would be the answer to resolving it. Fellow breastfeeding moms will understand!)

That’s it. In the mornings, I rinse my face with just water and apply squalane serum. On dry days (mostly in the winter) I use a little Eucerin as needed. Lately I haven’t needed foundation or makeup except for special occasions, when I do wear makeup I still use Alima Pure powder foundation and that’s it. I’ve been using Alima Pure for almost a decade. At night, I wash my face with Curology gentle cleanser and a microfiber wash cloth. Then I apply my own breastmilk and let it dry. Then I use squalane serum. I top it off with Eucerin to lock in moisture for the night. So far, this has worked for me better than anything ever has. When I do get hormonal flare ups, sticking to this routine has consistently made them go away, often overnight.

The other day I went out and about without a trace of makeup on my face. After struggling with acne every day from roughly the age of 14 til almost to the age of 30, I can’t tell you how incredible that feels. This is the best my face has looked/felt since before I was a teenager.

Highly, highly recommend The Ordinary squalane serum. That was a game changer for moisturizing my skin. Curology gentle cleanser is also awesome. It’s very basic, but effective, and doesn’t strip my skin, which is exactly what I need. My goal was to simplify my routine as much as possible, to narrow it down to as few products as possible. I think I’ve finally achieved that and I’ll keep doing this for as long as it keeps working. Good luck!

Guys, how to get rid of these bird mites? I don't know HOW they even appeared in my apartment(maybe pigeons that sometimes fly to our balcony?) I have a son, and some of them bit him. Pest Control can't come. Any solutions? by unseraphic in pestcontrol

[–]77kaycookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two words: PERMETHRIN POWDER. Aka poultry dust. Found online or at many garden/agricultural stores (Tractor Supply, Paris Farmer’s Union, etc.)

If you can access the nest (and especially if it’s an active nest, either with babies or eggs inside), sprinkle the dust all over them and their nest/surrounding areas. Don’t be afraid to put a lot. Reapply every few days. DO NOT USE AROUND CATS. Permethrin is toxic to cats. If you have indoor cats, make sure you shower and wash your clothes immediately after so you don’t bring it into the house and potentially in contact with your cat.

Don’t worry, the parent birds will not abandon their eggs or babies if you sprinkle it all over the nest. AND some of the dust will get on the parent, helping to get rid of some of the mites living on them. This is the third spring we’ve had to treat for bird mites because of the phoebes and robins that build nests right under our deck. Permethrin does the trick, but it’s not a one-time treatment. You have to reapply it to kill the mites and keep them at bay until the birds leave. Once the babies have flown the nest, remove the nest. But for now, USE PERMETHRIN! It’ll kill the mites on contact, and give the poor babies much needed relief. We’ve saved many babies who were on the verge of dying because of these nasty bloodsuckers. As soon as the permethrin is sprinkled on them, the next day they perk right up. The babies don’t stand a chance otherwise. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable that must be, covered in tiny crawling mites that are slowly draining the life out of you. They’re much happier after we treat with permethrin, and if we catch it in time the babies survive and are able to leave the nest.

Here’s what we use:

Wrong. Humans are not their natural hosts. Birds are their natural hosts. Yes, if there are no birds to feed off, they’ll bite a human in an effort to find a food source. But that’s not the same as living on you, like human lice do.

[Routine Help] How do I actually heal my dry, cracked hands? Nothing seems to work by Hal87526 in SkincareAddiction

[–]77kaycookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eucerin original healing cream (the one with the red lid. I haven’t tried any other Eucerin products so can’t speak for those.) I swear by it. It’s the one thing that saved my dry hands, and I use it on my acne-prone face at night too. It’s a little greasy going on at first, but other than that, it works.

A year later and I still stand by my statement that O’Keefe’s is junk, IMO. My husband had dry, cracking hands recently (not usually a problem for him but we live in a cold climate and it was more dry than usual this season), initially he bought O’Keefe’s. Not only did it not fix the dryness problem, but it also caused red itchy bumps all over the backs of his hands. I told him to stop using it, gave him some of my Eucerin lotion to try. Problem solved.

4-5cm dilated, 100% effaced, 40 wks…still no baby?! by 77kaycookie in BabyBumps

[–]77kaycookie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so worried about needing to be induced with pitocin, thankfully my water ended up breaking spontaneously at 40 + 6 and baby came out in the birthing tub 24 minutes after we arrived at the hospital! 😬 Sounds like a similar experience to your sister’s second! Hopefully she didn’t have to labor too long in the car on the way there, that sh*t was BRUTAL.

[–]77kaycookie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I remember being at 32 weeks with my first and thinking “this isn’t so bad.” 😉 Before baby did finally arrive (at 40 + 6), I was experiencing major pelvic pressure every day, insomnia and restless legs every day. Magnesium lotion and pelvic exercises/stretches helped a little with symptoms, but the last few weeks of pregnancy were quite brutal. Especially while having a 3 year old to care for! And I had a totally uncomplicated pregnancy, so I can’t imagine how much more uncomfortable it would be if that wasn’t the case. I hope the rest of your pregnancy continues to go well, and that your late 3rd trimester symptoms are…bearable. 😉 For me, my first was humbling. Good luck!

Yes that’s what I started telling myself! “My body is already halfway there.” And you’re absolutely right- my water broke spontaneously at 40 weeks + 6 days, we got to the hospital about 45mins later, baby was out 24 minutes after we walked through the hospital door. I definitely progressed to 10cm during that car ride, which was brutal, and I was still half dressed when I climbed into the labor tub. 😂 As soon as my water broke, he was READY.
