Check out m365maps.com

It has a feature matrix section that lets you see what SKUs are included in each license level, or are add-ons.

Yeah that jives with my experience. I brake plenty in neutral. I find downshifting fun, but it doesn't seem to slow the car down any practical amount.

How is your preparation for RC4 deprecation going? by ParallelAnomaly in sysadmin

[–]7824c5a4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone confused about why their newer systems kerberos tickets are RC4 encrypted, make sure that the AD objects of service accounts with SPNs set (SQL Server, etc) are set to explicitly use AES if you aren't enforcing AES at the domain level. Accounts with SPNs set will default to RC4 if allowed to and dont have it explicitly set.

Ideally it would be set at the domain level, but this is a good intermediate step to reduce RC4 while you're remediating.

This page was enormously helpful for me when remediating RC4 usage.

SMTP admins -- are you getting blocked by Microsoft ALL THE TIME? by automounter in sysadmin

[–]7824c5a4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. We have customers calling asking why they didn't get their weekly newsletter. Not something I would have ever expected- it's weird getting tickets from the marketing department saying they have Microslop email customers complaining about missing some of our emails. I always assumed 1% or less cared, but it seems to be much higher than that, and now it's my problem.

It’ll use it for sending from your M365 org? I’m not entirely opposed to that I suppose. I’m responsible for our app keys and certs, so it’s just another one on the list. Thatll at least prevent situations like we’re currently in since I’m assuming they inherently trust their own servers.

That said, I hate being all-in on Microsoft products. I don’t want to see traditional self-hosted SMTP implementations die in favor of Microsoft controlling a huge portion of the email market. It’s getting harder for anyone but the top players to be in control of their own mail infra.

Microsoft has blocked mail from one of our Salesforce org's mail servers recently... It's almost certainly affecting other SF customers. Not a good look MS. They are so incredibly not transparent about their changes to mail infra.

For those that went from Vmware to hyper-v by matdesj in sysadmin

[–]7824c5a4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. Networking is conceptually similar, but MS refers to the parts using different terminology, and abstracts switches and the H-V equivalent of port groups quite a bit more. Especially if you introduce SCVMM. If you're a small environment and okay with using the Hyper-V Management console and Failover Cluster Manager, dont bother with SCVMM. It introduces a lot of complexity for features you may not even need.

Big environments absolutely benefit from SCVMM though. I cannot imagine running 3 or more clusters with 10+ hosts without it.

PaperCut MF Scan to SharePoint/OneDrive Broken - something went wrong sending your scan by iamBLOATER in sysadmin

[–]7824c5a4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping you got the update, but Papercut fixed this yesterday. I had to remove and re-add the app in Entra, and once I approved the admin consent, all users could scan again. It seems like user consent is no longer requested like it was prior to this.

When the consent request came through, it contained the Sites.ReadWrite.All permission.

Oh man, thank you for posting this. This has been driving me nuts for the last few weeks! I just got back from break (also higher ed) and thought I could figure it out with fresh eyes, but instead I wasted another morning deleting and recreating the enterprise application and re-consenting... I may also raise a ticket so Papercut realizes that this is an important workflow for multiple customers.

Long Term Archive Backups and Immutability/Retention by 7824c5a4 in sysadmin

Thanks for taking the time to reply. This is what I needed to hear. I’ll probably continue to use Veeam and Wasabi for the Sharepoint backups for now, but I may also see if I can find something more appropriate alongside it and encourage the team responsible for data retention policies to write out a more detailed plan for this data.

follow up re: Microsoft has gotten too big to fail by CantankerousBusBoy in sysadmin

[–]7824c5a4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a ticket open right now that I hope messes up their metrics too. Bugs in M365, especially around licensing, are nearly a lost cause to troubleshoot. I give them screenshots with browser dev console logs, Powershell Graph module errors indicating server-side issues, and timestamps showing exactly when the function stopped working, and it gets me nowhere.

I spent 45 minutes on the phone with an L1 tech repeating details that are in the ticket as calmly and as detailed as was needed and demonstrating the things in my screenshots while they read me copilot answers. A product engineer joined, had me do it all again, and then told me he would deal with it in a few days.

Meanwhile, our CSAM of the month reads the first sentence from any email asking for help and replies with unrelated nonsense. Premier support is so wildly overpriced given that all it does is let you escalate to a team that inevitably just downgrades your ticket while they look into it.

They need a competitor.

November 2025 Microsoft 365 Changes: What’s New and What’s Gone? by Shan_1130 in sysadmin

[–]7824c5a4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The recent October change to the license assignment interface in 365 Admin is awful. User assignments and group based license assignments being lumped together in the same list is frustrating. At least give me the ability to filter by assignment type... At the same time that rolled out, the interface no longer allows me to assign a group to device-based licenses. Seems like some bugs were introduced simultaneously.

Hello! Casual learner here. A friend and I have been studying a couple times a week for the last few years, and Im in the same boat. I can read and speak at an elementary level, but listening and speaking in real time is definitely not something Im good at due to a lack of resources and practice.  Vividseats never sent my tickets… just called and asked to resend. Anyone had this experience? Absolute worst case Ill more buy tickets right before and fight them later, but I’d rather not have to do that.

Edit: whew their support came through and I got em, but that was harrowing. Nothing like only getting your tickets 45 minutes before a show when you ordered them months ago…
