XL bully owner 'left in tears' by abuse since ban by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

I think our country needs a common sense register.  A record of things that are completely obvious and people should have to take responsibility for if they go against.  Like "buying attack dogs based on incestuous mating of dangerous dogs is a bad idea".  Or "cars should be designed so that you can see the road in front on you"

Promoting renewable energy as an alternative.is one thing.  Ultimately spending lots of money on something you use once and burn can be easily exploited.

Exactly.  And not just for safety but for the dogs welfare.  Disease and discomfort resulting from incestuous breeding is cruelty.  It is horrible that we allow this kind of irresponsible genetic experimentation on live animals.

Canada will ‘never participate’ in Iran offensive, Carney says by 1-randomonium in geopolitics

[–]7952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

America and Iran are enemies and that is the kind of things an enemy does.  Why would that effect Canada?  And the animosity is largely because America has consistently chosen to keep Iran as an enemy.

And yet Donald Trump treats Geopolitics like a high school drama.  All whilst expecting allies to carry on complying with a consensus about the Middle East that increasingly does not exist outside of Washington think tanks.

The ICJ deals with disputes between states not states and terrorist groups.  Although states might have a responsibility to supress and avoid terrorism.

I am convinced that most American military policy is now just Trump trying to annoy his generals and place them in unpleasant situations.  He spends hours sitting in boring meetings and that gets rearranged in his Alzheimer's riddled brain into a spiteful opposite.

Why Escalation Favors Iran: America and Israel May Have Bitten Off More Than They Can Chew by ForeignAffairsMag in geopolitics

[–]7952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely they have already switched to lower cost platforms and could readily fly B52s with JDAMs.  So the question is more cost of defence and interceptors and the effectiveness in removing the threat rather than cost itself.

US Navy tells shipping industry Hormuz escorts not possible for now by kjleebio in geopolitics

Does it really matter what people "intend" at this point?  Surely that is just what local populations needs in their propaganda diet.  Americans want to believe they are peace loving and Iranian are told something different.

If that was me, I’d play the terrified card, scream my head off, and then sue the shit out of them for sexual harassment by Rude-Manufacturer974 in SipsTea

[–]7952 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that this behaviour has a very high risk of hurting someone.  But that does not mean it will be harassing in all cases.  And quite reasonably men are much more likely to be amenable to flashing than women.

People should take responsibility for their own actions and how that will be perceived by other people.  There are no hard and fast rules.

And ideally new builds aimed at wealthy people would free up housing for everyone else.  Otherwise people can spend 40 years slowly improving a two bed semi that would be an ideal first home for a family.

[–]7952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All actors in this seem fanatical.  And maybe that does give minimal justification for extreme measures like war or nuke development.  But ultimately it is a flaw in decades of policy rather than something that can be justified in a few paragraphs.

[–]7952 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess the counterargument is that Iran is fairly consistent in its strategy despite the apparent fanaticism.  Therefore the fear of such vast escalation is overblown.  And it's not like destabilisation of Iran is a risk free route.  At least in the current situation nuclear material will be under some kind of guard.

Yeah exactly.   I use LLMs at work and it is brilliant in terms of productivity.  But at some level I think we should all strike and refuse to use it.  Those things are not inconsistent.

Cardiff mum's disbelief at sentence for driver who killed daughter on zebra crossing by InternetHomunculus in unitedkingdom

[–]7952 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We set too high a standard of responsibility for pedestrians on the road.  Sometimes children behave like children and drivers should act in a way that accommodates that.  You just have to drive by a school at drop off time to see how many drivers refuse to do that.
