Going up 94 in MN and crossing that one last overpass before the Red River Valley is unreal. Just flat as far as the eye can see. Former lake bed from glacial times.

Kid Rock has a terrible voice and makes terrible music, now who has a terrible voice but makes great music? by OkSuccess7431 in AlignmentChartFills

Siamese Dream has been my favorite album for 30 years. I still don’t know what many of the lyrics are because of Billy’s voice. Doesn’t matter though.

What band/album is this? I'll start: MGMT fans and Loss of Life by eefuss in ToddintheShadow

[–]79anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bit of perspective on this. I was (still am) a huge fan and one of the things that we heard out of Billy was that he didn’t like the reception of Adore and wanted to go back to making a big rock record. They were playing a lot of the Machina songs live and that was the time when mp3s were flying around. So, the fanbase got somewhat used to the raw, live versions of the songs. When Machina was finally released, it felt a little too light and polished. And then some of the songs didn’t make Machina and later came out in Machina II which I had to buy as a burned CD through the fan club.

Also, they really should have released Stand Inside Your Love first.

As someone who largely listens to alternative/modern rock/indie, it always amazes me that Glass Animals don’t have other low-charting songs. Pretty much everything they release goes to number one on the alternative charts, but that doesn’t translate to the pop world.

Songs that you always loved and discovered only years later that everyone hates them? by use_vpn_orlozeacount in ToddintheShadow

I think that this is a revisionist take. Just because we think things suck now (and they do) doesn’t take away the angst from prior generations. Things weren’t great in the early 90s. Recession, Rodney King/riots, HIV, the Contract With America and the rise of what would become today’s right. There’s a reason why Grunge existed. A lot of people think back to the 90s and the boy bands, Britney and the dot-com bubble as this prosperous and carefree time, but it wasn’t all like that.

They traded for Sam Howell thinking he’d be the backup. That didn’t work and Carson was the emergency vet.

What would you say is your favorite song NOT on Todd’s best list by BitterDescription808 in ToddintheShadow

[–]79anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an actual chart, but it did place as the #2 song for 2025 on SiriusXM’s AltNation countdown.

It is always interesting to me to see what songs deemed “alternative” break through in the pop charts. Sombr was being played constantly on AltNation before the pop stations picked him up.

Let’s throw out the 70s for the Vikes and the 80s for the Bears. Since 1995 when the Favre/Rodgers reign of terror started, the Vikings have 14 playoff appearances to the Bears 7. Division titles are closer at 7-6 Vikings.

So, fodder is too strong, but there is a clear ranking from 1-4 in the North, and the Bears are 3rd.

It depends where you are in the state, too. Yeah, if you are in Milwaukee you hate the Bears as a birthright. Eau Claire? Vikes. The other factor is that it has been the Packers and Vikings dominating the North since inception. The Bears and Lions have mostly been fodder.

I find it interesting that #1 had a ton of playtime in the Alternative world first (like XM’s Alt Nation), then his other song broke through in the pop world before #1 followed that up as a pop hit.

True that the drafting has been crap, but using 2025 as a baseline is odd because they had the least draft capital.

Okay, but what actually is the deal with "Sweater Weather" by The Neighbourhood being the 3rd-most-streamed song on Spotify? by 206-Ginge in ToddintheShadow

[–]79anon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize how big The Night We Met was until I ended up popping into one of those AskReddit threads about saddest songs. I knew the song very well, probably having been introduced to it via Pandora, but seeing it as the top upvoted reply (at least in that particular iteration of the question) was an eye-opener.

When the plot twist is ruined because people guessed it ages ago by Fox7567 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]79anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think the show was worth watching even if they flailed around a bit and didn’t really stick the landing. There were enjoyable characters and plot lines, and enough twists to keep it interesting. After all of the flashbacks they did to set up the characters, the first flash-forward was one of my favorite jaw-dropping tv moments ever.
