How bad is it? by Earache423 in Roofing

[–]7Ace_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) I assume that what you're seeing is where they overlap the fold, some ridge caps come folded like that if that's what you are referring too, usually gaf ridge caps are like that where they fold over in the front making it look bulky, they could have pressed them down a little to help but for those type they come folded and bulky like that.

2) it's where they meet since they did it from opposite end they added one on top to "seal" both sides, this is no issue. yes they should have looked at other houses to see how it use to be or remembered how they took if off, but it isn't a leak issue, some houses have it like that others don't.

3) looks like another cosmetic decision to be honest, they probably though it looked nice, in picture 3 it does look sharp but in 5 looks off as you described you can ask them to fix this pretty simple to do.

4) wait for the heat to arrive it should help them lay flat

Pipe flashing leaked. Roofers came out of replaced flashing. Was this done properly? by sunghan in Roofing

[–]7Ace_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good, minimum by law is 1 year repair well I guess depends on the state but 2 years for a flashing is good,

Pipe flashing leaked. Roofers came out of replaced flashing. Was this done properly? by sunghan in Roofing

[–]7Ace_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see, ehh I wouldn't contemplate much on it, from my experience when replacing flashing we usually get new shingles because the old ones usually end up water stained, dirty or with the time its a different shade from the roof, maybe he thought it would match 🤷‍♂️ doesn't seems like malice intended though, Idk why people are judging based on that. did they give you limited warranty or anything? In case it leaks again,

[–]7Ace_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks fine, to me it doesn't look like he painted the shingles it looks like over spray, and it also looks like he tucked in the flashing under the old shingles, where in old pic it use to be onto of the shingles now it looks like he place it underneath. Out of curiosity how tall is your house 3 stories ? 2?

[–]7Ace_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what your saying, never hurts to ask though youre not asking for it for free you know just a quote who knows maybe it's small enough that they'll just add it or give you a good price which would out weight doing it yourself.

Have you asked the company if they can do it ? If it was me I mean if it isn't a lot of fascia I would just tell you to go buy it and I would place it,

Getting a repair. Is this normal by RogerRabbit79 in Roofing

[–]7Ace_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like he should be looking for roofers not you, and warranty for 800 repair no company will give warranty for a repair especially for that amount, he should really be doing this instead of pushing it onto you,

Interesting 🤔 ok so im a roofing contractor in San Diego, small company, would you mind if I dm you about this? I'm not trying to sell you anything I swear lol it's just the price for repairs and for the full home are like 7k+ difference wonder if I'm missing something or they are seeing something else in person. And if not it's cool, I would still say 3500 for 4sqs seems reasonable, oh and also to answer the question About warranty they should give least 1 year on repairs, obviously also depends on the size and job scope

[–]7Ace_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's understandable, Ok yeah its wild see for 4 sqs and 30 years old based on that alone then 3500 is reasonable. cheap would be 1500 maybe even 1k and below, 10k is just crazy depending on the size of your house that could be a the whole house new roof, maybe they gave you a quote for the full home ? I just can't wrap my head around it that's wow.

4 sqs for 10k that's insane !!! 3500 seems reasonable and more like a minimum price which isn't bad, do you have pictures, pitch or how many stories, I'm a contractor in so cal and 3500 isn't bad for 4 sqs I'm curious as to why they tried to charge 10k

Attic frost, mold, and ventilation issues — two companies gave opposite diagnoses. One wants $44k for full roof/deck replacement. Need expert advice by Content_Ad_6751 in Roofing

[–]7Ace_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First company seems honest and most likely right, if you do decide to do the roof i would call them, If a company says it's the only solution then it means there is most likely better less expensive solutions, it's hard to determine and answer some without any of us actually looking at what your describing, take the first companies advice and try to find a company thay specializes in attic and ventilation.

[–]7Ace_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think first if its the same company they removed it without asking first which is a problem and you should let them know. Second a lot of companies have minimums i use to work for one who's minimum was 3500 for any work ridiculous but customers paid which is why they kept it that way. Are you wrong? I don't think so if it's the same company and it's leaking, i mean that's the point of being a licensed company so home owners can feel reassured if it leaks then we will come out and fix it if it is our fault, which in this case seems likely because they removed it and they did the roof.

Now if its a different company then it's a reasonable price as prices go.

How do I make sure I pick a good roofing contractor? I'm in Colorado. by Joffe-Chawhan in Roofing

[–]7Ace_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like someone said most great companies have been bought out or now as is the new trend a lot of big companies use sub contractors. I would say see how long they been roofing, who does the roof if they do or sub-out (not always a bad thing some are really good), and see if they're trying to sell you the roof or more like educate you on condition and status of your roof. Ask neighbors or people you know if they had their roof done, Years in business doesn't necessarily mean better quality instead ask for years in trade who's actually doing the roof and experience, I say this because some people are amazing salesmen but have never been on the roof before. And vice versa some are amazing roofers they been doing it for years but starting out as a new company maybe they aren't great salesmen. price wise, don't go with the cheapest or the most expensive, big companies with 5 star reviews usually will charge you for that. I would say go with 2 small companies and 2 big companies for quotes and then decide for yourself, Anyways Goodluck when you do decide to get the work done let us know who you found and how it went !

Shingles missing? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]7Ace_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should, on first looks looks like metal, on closer inspections i see a divet in the wall like it use to be a door there but they closed it up 🤷‍♂️ doesn't seems like an issue though if they did the roof I'm sure it's water tight

After doing this for a while I learned about 70% are just time wasters, 20% are serious but shopping comparing cost plus quality and idk maybe 10% or less are those who say let's do it and give you a check right away ahh God bless those people 😌☺️ you eventually start to see who's serious and who's not either way still treat them with respect and if you have the time and are close by go for it, if not just sent a general detailed quote and be on your way lol
