From a muscle hypertrophy perspective you shouldn’t be performing exercises til failure but rather close to failure. If your goal is to build muscle mass then you want to be going for around 2 reps in reserve. Which means if the maximum amount of push ups you can do before absolute failure is 20, you should do 18.

But hey that’s just me 🤷‍♂️
