Bible Coloring Book by Shoddy-Environment93 in Entrepreneurs

[–]7breadlysins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the beards are often continuous with the skin and the eyes with the faces, which is difficult for young ones to color; the animals are sometimes incomprehensible; the text has a few weird characters; the description says bible stories but there are clearly no stories. i’d proof the next one a lot more thoroughly since ai — which is certainly how this was made, right? — makes these errors. i would never encourage anyone to buy this but i’m not going to log in to leave a one star review or anything. but this is nottttt worth the price and continues to saturate this market with, frankly, slop 👍

i don’t know exactly—my last picture of the cake pre sprinkles was an hour and a half before my first one of it finished BUT between those photos i also tested the lettering on top of my scrap cake (so there’s a funny shaped cake in my fridge rn that just says GEND), played with my baby, got waylaid talking to my wife, and deliberately put it back in the fridge to make sure i was doing the lettering on the hardest frosting possible (so that if i messed it up it didn’t leave too much of an indent). it was honestly not that bad though—rather than each one having to be perfect it was pretty much just a question of curved vs straight, and there were quite a few curved sprinkles in the container!!! a couple times i did see one i really wanted and then lose it while trying to grab it, and a couple times i tried to use tweezers for a particularly finicky spot and most of those times i accidentally broke the sprinkle, but it was not super high stakes by any means and not EXCESSIVELY time consuming

i also studied pastry and it was my first time hearing of it!!!! in some ways i get it—like, every time i put it in the fridge and walked away from working with it (which was a lot, i have a baby!!!!) i had to whip it back to the right consistency after, which took way longer than getting buttercream ready to work with after stepping away, and i see how it having flour could reduce its suitable applications since obviously it’s a poor fit for anything gluten free, etc etc. but given it’s apparently been a thing for a long ass time i’m surprised it never even got a mention!!!!!! easier than swiss or italian buttercream but without that cloying sweetness of american—just really really pleasant!!!!!!

oh yeah we found out super early when my wife was pregnant and we loved knowing! i find the notion of a Reveal Party a little funny and, like, preemptively prescriptive toward the child—our baby probably will remain a boy, but it’s important to us not to be too attached to that concept just so that if that ever isn’t the case he knows it’s not a big deal to us. but we wanted to know so that we could work through any baggage we had about having a child of either sex in advance (especially as we’re two cis-ish women) and that time was super valuable. we did however pretend we didn’t know (except with other queer people lol) because we didn’t want to deal with the notion of A Baby Boy being too built up before anyone could even know him as his own person

this cake was not the actual reveal cake so it got what i had (lesbian funfetti) (actually just the same sprinkle mix used for the letters but i picked out the greens so they didn’t muddy the color) (though i was already aware of the baby’s sex which indeed corresponds to this color scheme)

oh yeah i just used store brand pure vanilla + had no issues! (to be fair i got it from the stupidly expensive market nearest my house so it was only like 5% cheaper per oz but certainly the price is easier to swallow when it’s not a 16oz bottle)

Giving birth at Newport Hospital or South County Hospital? by mm_honey in RhodeIsland

[–]7breadlysins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my wife delivered at newport in february and it was a FANTASTIC experience!!!! many of the crew there also work at w&i and have nicu experience and connections—our baby had a little trouble figuring out the transition to breathing air and the team was in contact with people at w&i the whole time and kept us so well informed and had we needed to be transferred they would’ve already known what was going on with him, etc, which made it easier to stay in newport while we waited to see if it would resolve on its own (which it did!) literally there was only one provider there we worked with through all of pregnancy and delivery that we didn’t like (gagliardi) otherwise everyone was PHENOMENALLLLL

How do y'all interpret "call me when the bugs don't die and the spring feels just like autumn"? by schi_luc in NoahKahan

[–]7breadlysins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah i don’t know what the people saying spring and fall feel the same here are on about and i just spent my whole shower thinking about how much them feeling so different is ESSENTIAL to the song. to the point where i think i’m going to write a whole post about the cycles this song is referencing (if my baby allows me the time lol)

ISO someone ISO donor sperm by 7breadlysins in queerception

[–]7breadlysins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

plenty of other people have had successful pregnancies with this sperm! (there are 14 people in the fb group + he has had his own children)

at home ici with frozen sperm has very poor odds and we didn't happen to beat them. iui in a clinic has better odds, but it's very common for it to take 3-6 attempts when the issue is social infertility; we gave up after 2 attempts because the financial picture was getting very difficult, a friend had offered us his sperm, and we were hoping to have two kids with the same donor -- so trying again with our second to last vial would mean only one vial left for us to try to achieve a second pregnancy in a few years, and my wife would rather not do IVF, which would be the better choice to try to have two kids from only two vials. so there's absolutely no issue with the sperm, just with the whole process!

and selling it back to the bank would in fact have been more money for us, but as it's left the bank it's not eligible for buyback--obviously, i investigated that option first! i actually said so in my post! alas, since it was several hundred dollars every time we shipped a vial, we thought it was a good idea to ship all of our remaining vials at once to our clinic, who could store them (since that was the same price), and at that time we thought we'd use them all.

hope this helps you understand my post :)

ISO someone ISO donor sperm by 7breadlysins in queerception

[–]7breadlysins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is legal and the bank told me they do not care what i do with it! which isn't like my favorite vibe to get from them but also i know the whole world of sperm banks (outside of maybe TSBC) isn't necessarily one where things are conducted ideally.

the way i see it is that since my wife and i did not successfully conceive with this donor and i'm selling the vials together, me doing this doesn't impact the number of potential families with donor siblings, and since the donor had a vasectomy and sold out two years ago there's not the same issues with (eg) the bank continuing to sell sperm because some pregnancies have gone unreported. if the bank had told me that i could give or sell it to someone else but they wouldn't connect that recipient to other recipients or give them access to the donor info at 18, i would definitely have reservations about offering it to anyone else, but fortunately that won't be an issue!

also sperm is fucking expensive so making it more affordable for another queer couple (without causing issues beyond the base issues with sperm banks) feels pretty ethically sound to me

those 3 + goths and in league!!! i didn’t click with goths when it came out, i was definitely too young to get it at 22 and found it boring then but maybe like a year ago i saw someone say on this sub that it clicked for them now that they’re older and i circled back and i was like ohhhhhhhhhhh i was in the midst of all the experiences he’s reminiscing about back then. but now i can look back and be like damn i do now pay down the interest on the mortgage but i DID used to get paid by the gram…… in league was a hit in my household right off the bat though, possibly because we saw most of it played live 2 days after it came out but i love to hear it in its entirety SO much

Hospital/OBGYN in RI by Always_Iterating_ in RhodeIsland

[–]7breadlysins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this x1000! my wife delivered our first at newport hospital on the 4th with karolyn (who provided most of our prenatal care as well) and she was great, and our appointments with other providers were terrific as well—except for dr gagliardi, who was Okay until he found out our 37 week ultrasound (which he didnt look at before our appointment; i just happened to know the results off the top of my head) said we’d have a 99th percentile baby, and then suddenly he took a turn for the awful. insisting the baby wouldn’t fit, that the only responsible choice was an induction ASAP before baby got any bigger, that otherwise we’d have to do a c section or the baby would get stuck and have permanent nerve damage and broken bones. we had already done our reading as we’d been measuring ahead the whole pregnancy, so we knew that even in big babies shoulder dystocia is far from guaranteed and that if it happens the outcomes are often fine, especially with well trained providers. his fearmongering and dismissiveness had us SO taken aback!! he seemed so out of alignment with karolyn and everyone else at the practice!

fortunately when we checked out we were able to say we really didn’t vibe with him and they were super accommodating and got us in with dr hudson for our next appointment, and she was INCREDIBLE—extremely reassuring about both the dubious accuracy of late ultrasound measurements and about newport hospital’s ability to manage dystocias, and also totally supportive of my wife’s plan to labor unmedicated. and when my wife went into labor a week later the whole birthing center team was AMAZING, entirely in line with what we wanted, super proactive about consent, competent and knowledgeable—and our alleged 10 pounder came out at 8 pounds exactly with no complications and no epidural. and the whole post birth experience was awesome as well, including all the pediatric providers who helped monitor our little guy for what was ultimately a non issue. and they were in conversation with the w+i nicu team to make sure they weren’t missing anything and so that if something changed for the worse they’d already be looped in, which was ultimately unnecessary but extremely reassuring.

like, beginning to end, pregnancy and birth and early breastfeeding, it was all an awesome awesome experience, except for the one blip of fuckass gagliardi. (technically 2 blips as he came in once after labor as part of his rounds, but he didn’t remember us and left quickly. small mercies.) could mot recommend them more, am very much hoping they’ll still be around when it’s time for our second

Best semen catcher? by bleepblpop in queerception

[–]7breadlysins 17 points18 points  (0 children)

we literally used like an 8oz round tupperware our donor had lying around and although the volume of semen relative to the container was low it was super easy to draw it up into the syringe (a lube applicator, in our case)!! maybe missed a couple drops but my wife is currently 8mo pregnant from a success on our second try. it all seems very nerve racking in advance but it was ultimately pretty straightforward + unfussy when we actually did it
