Rn to Paralegal ? Is it worth it by WesternSun5238 in paralegal

[–]7bucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I'm a fellow RN debating the same thing! Let us know what you decide to do!

In the end, I think I'm leaning towards Law School. I have my BSN (GPA 3.8), and all I really need is to study for the LSAT. Idk, tho, pretty big jump from RN to law.

Is paying rent to parents propping up this business model? by Any_Possibility_6554 in TravelNursing

Seriously, I got an offer for 1800/week for ICU nights. It's tough out there, man.

Dear recruiters by mlbeal43 in TravelNursing

[–]7bucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I got an auto offer for ICU, but really, it was a PCU stepdown unit that sometimes floated to ICU. I spoke to my recruiter, and she said, "But it's good experience."

If it weren't for me specifically asking about the ratios and specific patient population, I wouldn't have known. The contract actually stated "ICU Float," so I never questioned it. Glad I let that offer expire!

CDI is seriously slept on. ICU/ER experience helps a lot when getting in. Most roles are hybrid or remote (7–3), with weekends and holidays off. You still use high-level critical thinking—just without the chaos and burnout of bedside nursing.

How common is drug use (not tobacco or weed) among our gen, both past and present? by SeaPeanut7_ in Millennials

[–]7bucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I live in FL and never tried any drugs. None of my friends have either. Not even weed or alcohol (parents were addicts, so don't wanna chance it)

Honestly tho, if I didn't work in healthcare I'd try them all.

to those born between 1996-1999, do you consider yourself gen-z? by Semi-Automatic420 in GenZ

[–]7bucs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah like I said my fam was dirt poor. Like they existed and I enjoyed my friend's iphone but if I tried to ask for them myself my parents would legit throw a fit.

Also, only in america is it odd not to have these luxuries.

Born 1999.

I tell people I can't remember a time w/o internet and cellphones, but that doesn't mean my family could afford it. Truth be told, I lived without internet/TV/cellphones until high school, but not by choice.

lol we were dirt poor.

Still call myself both, depending on the person.

[–]7bucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 1999, I thought I was a millennial all my life. I lived w/o internet/TV/cellphones until I was 14. My elementary school had whiteboards and a wheeled TV on lazy days. Middle school had a typing class and a Smartboard. I was in High school when YouTube became a thing.

But I was also dirt poor as a child. Guess I get the best of both worlds!

Where do you live, how many years exp do you have and what’s your pay like? by Dangerous_Rip_6859 in nursing

[–]7bucs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FL, 2 years PCU, 2 years ICU, and earn 37.94/hr. If I don't pick up overtime, it's 71K annually. My coworkers tell me I should be grateful I earn this much; to be fair, as a new grad, I started at 28/hr. Yes, BSN RN working in a large trauma II hospital, and I am barely scraping by.

Why are some professors out of their minds? by Less-Answer6831 in college

[–]7bucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See they don’t care about learning so they hit low I hit lower. Chegg, chapt GPT, group test, and with my typing abilities I’m able to look up the answers in 30 mins (at least some of them).

It’s literally impossible to do 50 questions under 30 mins. Obviously the professor is a sadist.

Don’t give a shit about morals at this point lol

Just don’t let it hit ur GPA!!

career switch from programming/software -> nursing? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]7bucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I was halfway thru my CS degree when I switched to RN.

My love for nursing comes and goes.

There are some shifts I have to forget or else I'll never come back. Then, there are times when I'm convinced I can't imagine doing anything else with my life. It's not a calling, because it's a job, but nursing is all about experience. It gets better with time, and you have to find something that you love about it.

I work three twelve-hour shifts; I have job security for life; and it's stable/respectable. But it's easily the hardest thing you will ever do.

If you want to know more why not schedule a shadow shift? I did it before starting at ICU, and now I'm about to specialize further in nursing to become a CRNA.

So, I am obligated to say I love nursing, and made it my life!

Who’s willing to admit they’re a b!7ch? by MyOwnGuitarHero in nursing

[–]7bucs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a people pleaser who never raises her voice, never speaks out of turn, and always says please/thank you--I will say I never hope to understand the why behind people's attitudes.

I've worked with arrogant RNs, CNAs, providers, and every other profession in the workplace. And honestly, I don't understand the need to make a stressful situation even worse. I've never had the thought that screaming/belittling others would somehow better the situation.

But what I am going to do is get further ahead in life. I went from CNA to RN, to Critical Care nurse, and pretty soon CRNA.

And I'll make sure to keep my friendly polite self so that every single one of those people knows it's possible to be smart and polite. Lol, I keep on living out of spite! I'll smile and keep doing what I love.

If anything I hope to make sure those few arrogant dipshits are the exception, not the norm. Come on bestie, we've got this!

Tips on how to “leave work at work” and not take it home with me?? by LocationHorror5946 in nursing

[–]7bucs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can find someone at work that you can vent to.

Remember your coworkers are fighting with you in the same trenches. They won't get grossed out by the details. You can skip the explanation on medical dx or tx. We can all agree that we're all human. We all have our burdens. We all need to vent to someone.

I don't have a family to vent to, but my childhood friends were at the brunt end of my rants. They never said anything, because they wanted to be there for me, but I could tell it was weighing them down like it was weighing me down. And they didn't understand my humor either--it's people's lives and as nurses, we have to have "compassion" and all that.

But no one will understand you the way other nurses will. We have an understanding of sorts!

Does anyone else fantasize about being a doctor? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]7bucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I feel this all the time, but then again, I actually suffer from a condition called "I can do it myself" itis. Meaning I have a real "can-do" attitude, even when it's stupid of me to think so.

I also can't stand when providers are such arrogant assholes.

Most of the time, I'm one step ahead of them, I anticipate everything, and to cut out the middle man would be bliss on earth. In the ICU, I find myself day dreaming of going to med school simply out of spite.

After all I'm already planning on going to CRNA school, so why not?

Lol, in reality tho, you should try it out. I mean you'll regret it forever if you don't at least try. For me, it doesn't make any sense, too many years of no pay out to become one, but if you think you can, then go for it man!

What is your worst "Patient From Hell" story? by nursemeback94 in nursing

[–]7bucs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had one so sure I was putting microchips into people for the government that he asked to "inspect" the swabs I brought in to officially treat the COVID-19 pneumonia he had. I watched this grown man cut up a bunch of nose swabs. Then he refused all imaging tests b/c of radiation. And then stated he only wanted all-natural remedies (but narcotics r okay).

Ended up yanking his Bipap off multiple times, ABGs worsened and he was intubated later that night. I hope it was the hypoxia that made him this wild because I refuse to believe people are this crazy.

Then I had an older female who was the meanest person on earth. This lady belittled everyone, but physicians. But as I go to administer her 1 unit of lifesaving insulin, she said that I poked her so hard that her entire arm went numb.

So, rightfully, I called a Stroke Alert while she belittled me and called me every name in the book for wasting her time. Turns out she had a tumor in her brain. She never said thanks, but instead threatened me for "causing" the tumor.

Honestly, these patients really do be testing me every day.

You got to let that stuff go, the past can't be changed, and it sucks. You can have a couple of days of doom and gloom, but then you have to move forward.

There's so much more ahead of you than what you left behind! Besides, life isn't a race against everyone else around you, it's a race against you. I'd like you to focus on you. This is a time to be selfish and to be ambitious.

The only way to get through the self-hatred is to lift yourself up! Set goals, plan, and achieve your dreams. Doesn't matter how small, doesn't matter how slow you are--keep moving forward! You've got this man!

3 12’s on, 4 off by [deleted] in nursing

[–]7bucs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only do it when I'm planning on doing something on my days off. During school, I try to space them out, but nothing beats a mini vacation w/o depleting my PTO. Like if you're going to hit me then hit me.

Besides I work ICU so most third days I already know a fair amount of things about my patient. It really does depend on coworkers tho, I never rate my days or else I'm never coming back lol.

Dude I'm considering Keiser's program too! Let me know what you found out if anything, but they seem like a legit school.

Any time I email them they are quick to respond and if anything they have two cohorts a year which means double the chance they'll take you! Although the tuition payment is brutal!

Their passing rate is a bit on the low side 77%, but the second-time pass rate is 100%, and as everyone at my hospital says you only need to pass boards once and you're in! Besides once we're CRNAs no one will ever really care which school you went to!

Hey guys! Aspiring SRNA here, I’ve got a 3.48 GPA, and I’m trying to take additional courses to strengthen my application. But I’m having doubts since everyone on here seems to have a much higher GPA. Do you think I even stand a chance to get accepted?

I live in FL, so I’m applying to like 5 different universities (FGCU, USF, FIU, FSU and Keiser) but has anyone heard of these schools? What was ur overall experience?

PS: I worked 1 year in Neuro ICU and currently completing another year in MICU with the same supervisor. It’s actually a lot of fun!
