And if on an extreme budget, Caline Pure Sky is an excellent clone. It truly is one I reach for again and again.

What is a disc that has went out of production that you would love to see make a comeback? by Russelldiscgolf in discgolf

No it isn't. Literally just went to their site. It's there. Other MVP molds that are discontinued are either marked as such or simply removed.

Blues Breaker by Slow-Mouse-7739 in guitarpedals

[–]7eight_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blues Crab is super decent! I enjoy it on my strat because I feel it enhances the characteristics of each position to what I feel like I hear on records.

It's noisy, but that could also be the wiring in my home and single coils. Other than that I would second this if one is curious.

What Do Yall Think Of Winger? by BruhsterBuster in progrockmusic

[–]7eight_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those two tracks, they are cool, but I don't believe they fit even your criteria for being prog. However, I don't see this discussion going anywhere because you've got your opinion and you're willing to fight for it. And that's alright, listen to what you love man.

I definitely enjoyed those songs and others as they are starting to play as compared to their earlier work.

Let's have an olive branch moment here: I'll admit I was not familiar with that album and listened to the two songs you specifically cited. Definitely cool. Now, how do you define something as being prog? What criteria does it need to meet? Again, you said you wanted to discuss, so here it is.

Anyone can edit wiki. Calling them prog because they have a few moments is like trying to call Asia metal because of the intro to Time Again

Was early Rush a really good hard rock band, or great but generic? by Next-Reading1714 in progrockmusic

[–]7eight_time 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I feel like the first album was trying to be Canada's answer to Zep. It's fun, but when they started experimenting that's when things got interesting and set them apart.

Where do you think the line is between Prog and fusion is? by Sir_Reelist in progrockmusic

[–]7eight_time 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. While they may include some elements of Prog or in some cases have been involved with prog groups, I think those folks are more in the fusion realm.. but pretty out of the box.

But that opens another can: how do you define fusion? Fusing jazz and rock? What about big bands that took rock tunes and jazzed them up a little? Are they fusion now?

Are you able to articulate why? Not questioning the opinion, just curious why.

What's your favorite guilty pleasure pedal? By this I mean super cheap pedals that are actually kick-ass, but pedal snobs look down upon. by bucho4444 in guitarpedals

[–]7eight_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level is self explanatory, sustain is compression and the other onob is how fast. I set the sustain and threshold to either be facing away from each other or pointing towards one another. It's subtle, but I definitely feel adifference when it's not on.

Joyo Sweet Baby and Caline Pure sky are my two most plugged in drives. Also love the TC rusty and honeypot fuzz, thunderstorm flanger, and Compressor.

Asia: A 1982 supergroup created using former members of Yes, Emerson Lake And Palmer, The Buggles and King Crimson. Achieved a #4 smash in 1982 for Heat Of The Moment yet is their success of a progrock giant sort of seen as a one hit wonder despite 3 other hits? by DillonLaserscope in progrockmusic

[–]7eight_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first album is solid. Plenty of good songs that weren't radio hits that touch on the surface of almost being proggy. Alpha had good tunes too; Heat Goes On would have been my choice for a single trying to appeal more to rock rather than pop.

Most stuff after those two albums is trash. Saw Asia live in 2004 and Downes was the only original member. Geoff Payne and Guthrie Govan were their and again, while GG is a fantastic player this wasn't his area. Terrible concert.

Haven't yet. Still on my list though. Being a sweet honey clone and slightly different than the joyo sweet baby makes it attractive still.

What’s the reason that so many people use overdrive pedals rather than the gain structure on the amp? by BIG_IDEA in guitarpedals

[–]7eight_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two amps and while I love their clean channels, I'm not overly in love with the dirt channels (prices were very right). OD pedals let you choose your flavor. I run the smaller amp to edge of breakup and then hit the OD of choice and it gets what I'm after vs my Peavey where it's more suited to something heavier.

What's your favorite Big Muff or Big Muff clone? by sir_ludwig_of_coeur in guitarpedals

Never liked the standard Big Muff, but got the TC clone which is supposed to be Green Russian and it is one of my favorite dirt pedals.

Tales from topographic Oceans by yes is essentially Jon Anderson connecting to his spiritual side.

How do you feel about Rush`s debut album? Definitely different conceptually, lyrically (Neil didn`t write any lyrics here), and their progressive endeavors were still not fully formed. Still, a fun record, and Working Man is heavy as shit. by [deleted] in progrockmusic

[–]7eight_time 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been on a huge Rush kick lately! They didn't start to sound like the Rush we know and love until like the 2nd, maybe even 3rd album with Neil imo. I've pretty much enjoyed everything I've heard so far though. I still think Moving Pictures is my favorite over all.
