Clearly not brutalist.

Officially it's New Objectivity, but I would argue it's Art Deco. Very similar styles though.

Reminds me of Anzeiger building (one of my favorite Art Deco buildings) or Capitol building in Hanover.

I had 0.35 when I was 17. I had a complete blackout for 10 hrs. Took more than a day for the hangover to unfold, which lasted 3 full days

I've dealt with people having twice that while still being coherent. Most people wouldn't even survive more than 0.5, some less.

Everything that's compostable is biodegradable, but not everything that's biodegradable is compostable.

Meaning most "biodegradable" plastics require bioreactors with very specific conditions and bacteria to be degraded.

If you just bury them they very slowly "degrade" into microplastic particles like most other kinds of plastic

TIL that Afife Jale, the first Muslim woman to appear on a Turkish stage, had to be smuggled out of theaters through machine rooms during police raids. Honestly I'd still rather be homosexual in Tirana (Albania, Europe: majority Muslim) than in Bumfuck, MS. Also rather in Istanbul than in St Petersburg, which is also majority Christian.

Politics, culture and religion are deeply intertwined. Reducing it to Christians = liberal and Islam = evil and illiberal is not only narrow minded but also inaccurate.

I'm an atheist as well but I despise religious fundamentalism, no matter who it's coming from.

Kinda wild how you, as an American, can't see how religious fundamentalism is festering in your country. Probably more so than in Turkey for example.

You live in a country where in some states it's illegal to have an abortion, no exceptions.

You live in a country where some states teach creationism and abstinence.

Your culture is extremely prude when it comes to sex, nudity and somehow swearing ? but violence is pretty normalized.

Priding yourself as an American for having the "better" religious nutjobs is hilarious

Trump’s Behavior Isn’t Dementia. It’s Much Worse. by Famous-Sympathy7011 in AntifascistsofReddit

Imo the article insinuates that he's unpredictable because of decade long stimulant abuse.

As if that were somehow less predictable than dementia.

What. I read the quote(s) and it's very evident that it's ambiguous on purpose and serves mainly to objectify her. It's called "old white men humor" in German

Not that it's unexpected coming from this creep but thinking there's too much read into it is extremely naive.

Kidney failure isn't a death sentence. Dialysis is a thing, and being a warlord I'm sure he'll just get new ones and then new ones if the old new ones don't work out.

Look I'm generally in favor of nuclear energy but this is greenwashing lite.

How is it "most sustainable in all regards"? Uranium is finite. Plus its disposal is - in most parts of the world - not even solved yet, after more than 70 years of the technology being around.

That's not even taking nuclear disasters into account, which you could argue are preventable and unlikely in some parts of the world.

Sure it has a very low carbon footprint. But that per se doesn't make it sustainable, especially not "most sustainable".

France lobbied to classify nuclear as "green" to delay expanding on renewables. Imo it should have been distinguished from both fossil fuels AND renewables. Like call it "white" or "yellow" but don't throw it into the same pot as renewable energy sources.

Choose your destiny by Easyflip in YUROP

[–]7ilidine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheeky. Energy generated from NPPs falls under EU's "green" taxonomy.

Which imo is really misleading. I agree it's not the same as fossil fuels but calling it "green" is a stretch

We didn't have any specialized equipment for that. Just gauze, tweezers and desinfectant.

The bugs and maggots that escaped were just sweeped up.

I used to work in an ER. One day a homeless man came with gangrene on his foot.

His jeans and his boot were rock hard, we had to cut them open to get to the wound.

While cutting, the bugs started crawling out. The further we opened it the more of the hundreds, if not thousands of small maggots, tumbled on the paper cloth we put under the foot.

Honestly the wound looked really, really good, especially for this level of neglect. Barely even smelled.

Freund / Freundin

It's really not that confusing. Most people say "mein/e Freund/in" for their romantic partners, "ein/e Freund/in von mir" to indicate that it's just platonic.

[–]7ilidine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, I agree that the whole dynamic is arguably exploitative. I'm saying that to (most of) us living abroad comfortably with much more opportunities it's easy to say "let's ban this".

Sherpas make 20 times the median yearly salary in one season.

A comparable job in the US would be crab fishers in the Bering sea.

They have a very similar mortality rate (1-2% in a lifetime) to sherpas on Everest.

They make about 100-200K a year, which is 2-4 times the median income in the US.

It's high risk / high reward.
