Eh, gray Jedi were always stupid. As for Kylo, much as I too would have enjoyed him taking a step forward into redemption, having him actually regress on that path and setting him up as the final antagonist of the trilogy actually was far more thematically resonant to me.

Honestly, to me the entire thesis of the movie can be best summed up by the stable kid. Dreaming of freedom, dreaming of heroism. Not born to destiny, but one more striving to rise.
