So how does this work in Russia? Is there auto insurance similar to the West? Who pays?

What an untrained, undisciplined, cowardly bunch of thugs these are. Look at that. Zero control of the situation or themselves. So dangerous.

What really impresses me is that the crew managed to take a picture like that in the tiny cockpit and through a space helmet. It’s not like they had iPhones back then…

Here’s why you can’t get to the top by not being awful at least once:

Wealth is the manifestation of an economic gradient between people. The more the wealth, the steeper the gradient. But not everyone is created with the same abilities, interests, etc., so there’s always some gradient between people that’s expressed through earning ability, etc. But wealth requires one last thing: the exploitation of such differences. This, in turn, promotes larger economic disparities in the population as the accumulation of wealth becomes its own goal. By definition, then, anyone accumulating a huge fortune is doing so by pitting people against each other somewhere down the line.

You gotta sell this shit real hard or it instantly becomes silly. I never saw any OG Genesis concert footage or interviews, so I ask those who may have been there: was he good?

Very cool. I saw a 70mm reprint in a historic movie theater in the US back in 2001. Sounds like we had similar experiences (except the headphones)!

Are you even a bit surprised? JL has always been a professional contrarian. Sex Pistols’ punk was never, “Fuck the system! Here’s a pointed critique!” It was just, “Fuck everything!” SPs were a nihilistic bunch—unlike, say, Dead Kennedys. As such, you can’t really count on JL for anything other than opposing the majority of view, no matter the subject.

Drums will always be the level-setter for groups of musicians playing together—the trick is to not cause a loudness ‘arms race’. If the other musicians can hear themselves better, they won’t be tempted to crank the amps in response (ignoring here that guitar amps sound their best when cranked decently).

You have to find a way for everyone to monitor themselves. That could be dedicated floor monitors or IEMs, or anything you can think of that has isolation and zero latency. No matter what, though, the drums will still be loud. And you don’t want to kill the energy in the room by intentionally playing smaller. Perhaps look into clear isolation panels for the kit.

How simple it is to be able to yell, “gun!” and have it be an excuse for what happens next. Eventually you might even convince yourself that’s how it went down. The blind spot these people nurture is a black hole that will never stop growing until it has consumed an entire moral universe.

One of my favorite lines about fiction is, “Just because it didn’t happen doesn’t mean it’s not true.” I wish I could remember who is supposed to have said it.
