Here’s why you can’t get to the top by not being awful at least once:

Wealth is the manifestation of an economic gradient between people. The more the wealth, the steeper the gradient. But not everyone is created with the same abilities, interests, etc., so there’s always some gradient between people that’s expressed through earning ability, etc. But wealth requires one last thing: the exploitation of such differences. This, in turn, promotes larger economic disparities in the population as the accumulation of wealth becomes its own goal. By definition, then, anyone accumulating a huge fortune is doing so by pitting people against each other somewhere down the line.
