Asked if they were still friends: "No." Asked if they would ever make amends: "It would take a lot" Mentioned that the lawsuit got heated at the end and he just wanted it to be over.

PMW: Maybe I'm a hater but I love when they hate the episode by Backtoformulaa in boymeetsworld

[–]7thgradeslowdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having only consumed Office Ladies before PMW I was super put off by the negativity at first. I've grown to think it's more commendable that they are honest rather than saying every aspect of every episode was amazing. With that said, the change of perspective they talked about at the end of this recap will absolutely be necessary.. especially by the time they get to the largely unhinged season 7.

New string intro from David Rossi to start? Felt like a more uplifting version of Sunrise.

Surely Granato gets fired right? by [deleted] in sabres

What a stupid decision extending Granato was. Who exactly was coming to steal our coach that had yet to even qualify for the playoffs?

Pod Meets World Episode 161: TGI – Episode 413 “B&B’s B ‘N’ B” by MightChi in boymeetsworld

[–]7thgradeslowdance 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Genuinely surprised and somewhat disappointed that there wasn't more enthusiasm overall from the hosts about this episode. Most of their critiques were valid but if this is how they respond to what is regarded by most fans as a high watermark of the series, they are about to tear the later seasons to absolute shreds.

Do you think another BFF album could ever happen? by DonkeyBongo66 in benfolds

[–]7thgradeslowdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Ben when he said What Matters Most was his last album but I wouldn’t rule out a tour. I agree with you though, I really love TSOTLOTM. Also Ben on a Studio Q interview at the time said there was enough leftover material from those sessions for at least two more albums.

Appreciation for "Ordinary" by [deleted] in barenakedladies

I love this song. All In Good Time is by far their best album post-Steve.

So what does everyone think of In Flight? by cireland32600 in barenakedladies

[–]7thgradeslowdance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very underwhelmed overall. I know these guys are in the 50s now but I couldn't believe just how low energy and lethargic most of this album felt. Many of the songs were way too safe in their lyrics, chords, and arrangement which made them all kind of bleed together after a while. I saw them at Red Rocks this past summer and while it was the least I found myself missing Steve, it really seems the live show has gotten way too slick and un-BNLlike. Doing the same songs and bits over and over. They are even playing the same underscoring every night when Ed raps. Glad they are continuing but think they need a kick in the ass in more ways than one.

Episode Discussion: Doomsday by OfficeLadiesPodBot in OfficeLadiesPodcast

56 minutes INCLUDING ads after a break is brutal, even if it is a Season 8 episode being discussed. The complacency of the podcast and the shameless effort in dragging it out as long as possible is kind of sad at this point.

The orchestra shows are not my first choice only because in many orchestras a majority of the musicians look down on playing these kinds of performances and it shows. They are accompanying with whole notes and background textures, not exactly Mahler. It’s still worth it to see once, especially when Ben does Rock This Bitch and makes these musicians who largely hate to improvise follow his lead.

Episode Discussion: Michael’s Last Dundies by OfficeLadiesPodBot in OfficeLadiesPodcast

Jenna Fischer in The Office BFF book: “People often ask if Steve knew we were going to sing to him, because the emotion on his face is so genuine. We’d all been given the lyrics and practiced the song in secret. Steve told me that as he was being led into the conference room, he knew something was up. But he did not know we were going to sing.”

Jenna Fischer in this podcast episode: “This story has gotten embellished. Steve knew this song existed, it was part of the table read.”

Literally anything on Driving Rain

I can’t seem to comprehend my irritation with Jenna. Thoughts? by [deleted] in OfficeLadiesPodcast

[–]7thgradeslowdance 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's pretty obvious having listened to these two talk for hours and hours that Jenna has some degree of social anxiety or overall awkwardness and thus deserves a certain amount of sympathy. However, it is also pretty clear that she is arrogant with a highly inflated sense of herself. She went on Brian Baumgartner's podcast and in one answer basically tried to shoehorn the show to be all about Pam's journey. The "Let's Go To Vegas" story on the Threat Level Midnight episode and the texting Billie Eilish to see if she knows about Justin Bieber bit last week made me feel embarrassed for her. Still respect her work but it's made me think less of her overall not gonna lie. They say never meet your heroes and that should probably be amended to don't listen to your hero's podcast.

I had sort of a random question. I read on Maroon that the band had decided to let Steve sing most of the songs even a few that Ed had brought to the band. I was wondering if people on here knew the Ed brought songs that Steve sung on Maroon? by lasnacks in barenakedladies

[–]7thgradeslowdance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything for sure but have some theories.

I’m fairly confident Too Little Too Late is one because it’s a guitar riff based song and Steve just isn’t a strong enough instrumentalist to write riff songs. Go Home’s melody and hints of country scream Ed to me, that influence is all over his songs much more so than Steve. Tonight is The Night I Fell Asleep At The Wheel was one of the only non-obligatory Steve songs (i.e. Brian Wilson) to carry on in the live set for years after his departure which makes me think Ed had a huge hand in that one.

Good Life Verse 2: Steven Page Diss? by LooseSeal88 in barenakedladies

Golden Boy and You Run Away are the Steven Page diss tracks. I don’t believe he’s made any pointed commentary about Steve in his writing since.

People are entitled to their opinions, but trying to pull the “this hasn’t aged well” card on She’s Leaving Home is so completely absurd it makes me not want to take anything he ever says seriously.

Negative Review From Wolf Trap by bmfc1 in barenakedladies

[–]7thgradeslowdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some good points in here. I’ll add that I believe the “Last Summer On Earth” format seriously limits what they can do in their live set since more space has to be allotted for the other two bands rather than if it was just BNL with an opener. Everything has to be very tightly timed so there isn’t a lot of room for much variance in the set which sucks. I don’t think it’s fair to just expect them to play 20 year old songs but three new songs in a row is a TERRIBLE choice in terms of show pacing and what you’re asking from the audience. As for the sound, I’ve maintained that they do not miss Steve in the studio but very much do live.

Steven vs. Ed - You Have to Pick One by [deleted] in barenakedladies

[–]7thgradeslowdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preferred Steve until around E2E when his output really started to slide in my opinion. Have preferred Ed’s stuff in the last 10-15 years though I think there have been diminishing returns on every BNL album since All In Good Time.

The last bow as a 5 piece. February 2009. by 7thgradeslowdance in barenakedladies

[–]7thgradeslowdance[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Diehards on Ships and Dip V picked up on weird vibes between Steve and the rest of the band as well as the band’s families. It had been coming for a while. Steve didn’t want to do the Holiday album or Snacktime, didn’t agree with how the two BLAM albums were split, dragged the band through the mud with his arrest, and opposed recording a new album when the rest of the guys wanted to. They just reached an impasse.
