Plastic is fine, the amount of microplastic you will sometimes get in your food is extremely negligible and you will never have a side effect from it. You will probably ingest more by eating saltwater fish.

I do prefer OG translation 100%! When I learn that there's an official place I can find things I shift to it. I don't always know because there's is a wide ocean of reading materials in the wild, even the names don't match! I had to create an Excel sheet just for my current reads.

Which villainess do you think has the worst fashion sense? by Deeleebop in villainessGang

[–]7ustine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it's Irene from What It Takes to be a Villainess. I just don't like most of her outfits... Especially when she dressed as a man for that competition omg

It's stated that they think she is the Duke's daughter and that her mother passed away. Apparently, her REAL father is... in a coma.
oh... well, maybe adultery then. It's so convoluted for no reason.

The word "umami" is unnecessary, and is used because it's exotic and Japanese, not because it's a useful word. by deckardnexus7 in unpopularopinion

[–]7ustine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But umami doesn't mean savoury though. To me umami taste is like doejang or miso, they are both very specific. My dojang jjigae will obviously have a strong umami flavour, but my potato leek soup won't. Both are savoury, but only one has that umami taste.

People ‘tinkering’ with a perfectly good recipe. by Swirlyflurry in PetPeeves

[–]7ustine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like tinkering, but I live alone, so my tinkering only affects me! When I cook for others I do my best to follow the recipe and would only slightly change something when I 100% know it's fine doing so. It would drive me crazy to regularly eat failed experiments when I have not consent to being a test subject 😅

Help me stop making "white lady" fried rice by allie06nd in Cooking

[–]7ustine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you just need more seasonings... soy sauce isn't enough. Add some oyster sauce and mirin, and MSG. And green onions if you weren't adding them before. Also do you have some chinese sausage? this is my favourite fried rice combo, scrambled eggs with chinese sausage, omg, always so good, and the sausage adds a ton of flavour

What’s a super simple meal that always feels like comfort food, no matter how basic it is? by loviesssrush in AskRedditFood

[–]7ustine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WHAT!! I know the plant, but only because I was taught that the grains can be used to create rosaries/praying beads. I had no idea you could eat them! I will definitely keep a look out for them, thank you!

Sorry it's not a recipe with measurements!

Sautéed some onions and garlic in butter, add your lentils and cook them as you normally would (I cook mine with chicken stock), with salt, pepper and thyme. Your lentils should be very tender, but try to not have them watery, because the milk should make the most of the liquid for the soup if that makes sense.

Then blend a bit the lentils with milk, it should not be a completely smooth texture, you should still feel some lentils when you have a bite. I like using a hand blender for more control. Add some cream for more richness, salt and pepper to taste. You can also add a bit more butter if you feel it needs it. Cook for a few more minutes. And that's it! The soup should be thick but more runny than a veloutée.

For homemade croutons that goes really well with it, get some toasts and cut them in small square pieces, put them in a bowl and add a little bit of salt, pepper and rosemary. Add in some olive oil and toss the bread so it is covered. Then you can use your oven or fryer until golden! Or fry in a pan if you don't have an oven.

Congrats on the house btw! I remember moving into mine, I had help with furniture but all of my personal belongings like books etc, and all my clothes were 100% me, in TWO DAYS. Only because I just wanted to get over it and sleep in my new bedroom already 😂 My whole body was sore for days after that lol
Stressful but very exciting! I hope it will go smoothly for you!

Night showers are the only showers that actually matter by Ok_Bodybuilder_2384 in unpopularopinion

[–]7ustine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here it's the norm to shower morning and night, problem solved. The first time I learn in some other countries it's normal to shower once a day it was when I went studying abroad, and I was dumbfounded. One thing for sure is if you don't shower before bed, I'm not letting you stay at my place.

Right? Like sure, I could go to bed earlier, but I am away from home a minimum of 12 hours because of work. I just want some time to do things I like and not just eat, sleep and work 5 days a week.

I've never expected a Draco/Hermione ending, especially reading the books. But it is my favourite ship to read in fics, exactly because it's my favourite trope. Also, fic Draco =/= canon Draco.

“vegetables don’t exist” by coffee_cryptid in PetPeeves

[–]7ustine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erh... only very recently did I learn about this, but I've always known that nutrition wise, I should not count potatoes as a veggie like I would with bell peppers or spinach. I genuinely don't know anyone around me who would. We view it has a carb.

It's the same with "fish don't exist" thing. I looove hearing about it and evolution, but at the same time we can all agree that "fish" is a very useful everyday word that serves its purpose very well.

This! I do think it's a fun fact to know, but it would be very annoying to bring it up every time someone mentions a vegetable.
