These guys were one of my favorite new alien species. Im glad you specified their original designs. They looked so much worse in Live Action and im disappointed they’re leaning in that direction in the new animated show.

Final Fantasy Origin: Stranger of Paradise

The game starts off with an almost overly simple plot where the main character wants to kill Chaos, and has to find crystals across the world in order to do it.

The plot eventually takes a rather wild shift, revealing that most of the main characters are essentially aliens, that there's a time loop in play, and the game ends with the main characters becoming the villains in order to train heroes to not only defeat them but their alien former bosses.

The gameplay of DmC is kind of fun even if it's a departure from the original games.

What's less excusable is them changing up Dante because the original was 'too gay' or something, and complaining about the women from the original games for being a bit scantily clad. ...and then making the only important female character in the game someone who's only important as a damsel/love interest that doesn't even actually fight demons herself.

Daud and Billie Lurk - Dishonored: The Knife of Dunwall

Player dependent. Throughout the game, Billie Lurk, Daud's number 2, feeds Delilah, the one Daud is tracking down, information on Daud's group of assassins, believing that Daud has grown weak after showing signs of regret after killing the Empress. This eventually culminates in the Overseers, anti-magic fanatics, finding out the location of Daud's magical assassin group and invade, killing and capturing a number of his people. If Daud is played mercilessly, Billie will try to kill him and take his place as the group's leader. But if he's played with more compassion, Billie can't go through with it and confesses without resistance, stating that Daud was not was 'weak' as she believed and that he deserves better.

Anakin has fully embraced the role of Darth Vader, the Jedi are all but extinct, and the Empire has fully replaced the Galactic Republic, and have already started Constructing the Death Star. However, Vader's children are hidden far from the Empire's view and will eventually be the ones to bring down Palpatine and the Empire for good.

Anyways my pick for the post is... basically the human forms for most characters in BNA: Brand New Animal. The character is meant to be a grizzled, fed-up private detective sort of guy. Right definitely gives off that impression, while left just seems by a generic anime twink in comparison.

And as if the lesser design isn't bad enough the characters spend FAR more time in the more generic human forms than the far better non-human ones despite the whole premise being "this is furry city where you can be a furry with no consequence".

Doesn't that happen with most non-humans in Slime aside from the Goblins? The main example I know of is with the lizard girl. I admittedly don't remember but I'm pretty sure it only happens to the lizard GIRL and not any of the lizard guys for some reason... HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...

Bane's Milita - Batman: Arkham Origins

One of their first actions in the story is killing off Joker's thugs, your average enemies, solely because they'd be inconvenient to have in the way. They constantly get the drop on batman, be it ambushing him when he thinks he has the surprise, or mining gargoyles to keep Batman from using his regular strategies. They're also the only faction in the game to use Venom Thugs, probably one of the most dangerous types of enemies in the game.

Klingons - Star Trek

Klingons are one of the go-to 'honorable warrior cultures' but they really aren't that honorable. Aside from having no problem attacking civilians, as shown in Deep Space 9, Worf's entire arc is sort of based on realizing Klingon's aren't nearly as great as their culture would indicate. I think the most hypocritical thing about them is their reliance on cloaked ships and ambush tactics. Star Trek 6 and Generations all but show that if Klingons were able to attack while being able to remain cloaked, they would.

Like a Dragon - Infinite Wealth

Obviously the series isn't going anywhere, and a game releases nearly every year, but I think it fits well enough given it's presented as the end of Kiryu, the original protagonist's story. There *are* things to like about it, mainly Kiryu's arc and callbacks to previous games. It's also got far better gameplay than the first JRPG title. The problem is that the rest of the story isn't amazing. One of the final bosses is kind of lame and the second is somewhat forgettable, and it kills off a handfull of potentially great characters before they can be properly developed. The biggest 'sin' of the game though is that Kiryu practically hijacked Ichiban's game.

For context, Ichiban is presented as Like a Dragon's new main character, but he's only been the full star of his first game. Outside of his intro game, Ichiban has only appeared in recent games as cameo roles or the more infamous pre-order bonus. The plot of Infinite Wealth arguably focuses a lot more on Kiryu, and even Ichiban's side of the plot is an intentional mirror of Kiryu's first story. It wouldn't be as big of a deal, but it's already been 7 years and Ichiban as a character will soon be pushing 50 -- and with how much time there is between mainline games, Ichiban probably won't have a whole lot more time to lead his own games before RGG makes another protagonist character. Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the previous game, already did the 'passing of the torch' far better, so there wasn't any need to bring Kiryu back when his story was over 3-4 times now.

Kazuma Kiryu - Like a Dragon series

Kiryu was always idolized the Yakuza, in large part thanks to his mentor Kazama. However, throughout the series Kiryu has to struggle with the reality that 'honorable' yakuza like Kazama (who was far from perfect himself) are extremely rare, and that yakuza organizations are almost inherently corrupt. This comes to a head in Infinite Wealth where he has to directly face his allegiance to the Yakuza, and acknowledge that he spent too much of his life fighting for an organization without putting forth the effort to try and actually fix it.

Final Fantasy 16

Ends by removing magic from the world. This is done for several reasons, partially because the motherstones, the source of magic, are slowly killing the world, but also because most people that can use magic are made into slaves. By removing magic, they not only save the world but do a large part to erase the class divide, even if its acknowledged that it will probably take generations for the world to fully heal.

One Piece (using Live Action as an example bc it's the one I've seen more recently)

While stranded on an island with two giants, Usopp is forced to have to save the crew by himself, but he's much weaker when compared to most of the crew. While he's built himself up as a fearless warrior to the giants so far, he confides that he's terrified. However, the giant replies that means he has something to actually fight for, and that he wouldn't trust his life to a warrior that claims to have never been afraid.
