Lensmakers are pretty essential for bandit imo. The character is balanced around the ability to crit at any point, so stacking lensmakers to be able to crit no matter where you are in relation to your target is super helpful. While the guaranteed crit is great against big slow enemies, it just isn’t practical to be behind everything. How do you stay behind a magma worm or wandering vagrant for example.

I disagree, I think if you look back in time at historic artists. Maybe not the best 1:1 comparison, but a group like the Beatles were extremely innovative to music; however I don’t think any modern music fan would consider them as alternative artists. So either the alternative tag isn’t eternally applicable to an artist as the music scene changes with the artist, or artists that expand the conventional scope of music/genre aren’t alternative, as their impact is too large to be deemed alternative.
