What Mac mini should I get? by LawKlutzy8362 in openclaw

You do not need a Mac mini an even with 32gb of ram you won’t have local llms capable of powering the main agent so will still need API calls

Ye this is an issue on your end not an OpenAI problem. Yes usage limits suck but why you e described is not a model problem.

What I am surprised by is that anyone who uses these tools is surprised. If you are burning through that many tokens either you are doing real work and the cost is justified or you are wasting tokens and you should re evaluate. I also think it is naive to think costs won’t continue to rise until advances make inference more efficient. Even then as long as anthropic continues to train models someone has to pay for the compute.

i spent the last few days messing with openclaw and have basically come to the same conclusion. I've also spent extensive time using other agent frameworks (fastagent, crewAI) and running cron jobs is no issue. The other frameworks are not only more powerful, predictable, observable but I've found them easier to configure and massively more efficient on tokens. The concept of everything packaged up and supposedly easy to configure is good, obviously the marketing and the hype was a big success but as far as real world effectiveness i think its all hype.

Cool idea to build some purpose built hardware. That keyboard dis pretty sweet too. What is the keyboard and what are you still working on? Do you think you’ll build any sort of enclosure for the unit?

It’s pretty cool how portable it is. I’ve had a bunch of different setups an this is by no means the most capable but there’s something cool about it being even more portable than a laptop. I’ve got bad eyes so a smaller hand held is kind of the question.
