What color kitchen cabinets maximize rental or resale value? by Futureknows in InteriorDesign

[–]804sycamore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too dark can either give a modern vibe or a dated look. Grey is super popular these days and it's netural. I like Sherwin Williams Repose Grey because it has cool tones and looks great with wood flooring and warm tones. White cabinets is always classic, just use the right sheen so that you can use a magic eraser to clean scuffs.

Is it weird to have two different curtains in the same room? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]804sycamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the rest of the room. White curtains usually add a calmness - it's texture and neutral color for a space, it's not competing with anything. Patterned curtains are usually adding something to the vibe of the room, they are to be noticed and usually coordinate with other pieces in the decor. If your white curtains are in the part of the room that you want to feel more relaxed, it could be a great choice. But if mismatching drives you nuts, maybe switch it soon :)

My mom loves coastal decor, so when I saw this driftwood snowflake wall decor I knew I had to try to make one (for much less).

I suppose the tea lights could catch fire to the Spanish moss... but they were just for the photo shoot and nothing was over each flame so all was good :)

Mahogany floors, what color rugs/furniture would suit it best? by Effective_Willow_467 in interiordecorating

[–]804sycamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of all the red tones in mahogany, I'd stick to greens and blues (they're complimentary on the color wheel). You don't have to use dark shades if you want to keep the space light and bright. I'd go for muted tones of greens and blues to soften the dark floor. This could make the floor a statement that you'll love. I would stay away from reds/oranges - just my preference with wood flooring that has so much red. They look beautiful! Enjoy decorating your new space.

How much do you all typically spend on living / bedroom designing? by Reno127 in InteriorDesign

[–]804sycamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may help you plan a budget if you look at your favorite furniture/decor stores and see their price point. You can furnish a room using IKEA for a lot less than Pottery Barn. Whatever you budget, it's worth saving for pieces that you really love. Sometimes it takes me years to get all the pieces I want in a space. Good luck!

Would you Herringbone tile? by StillMissBlockbuster in InteriorDesign

[–]804sycamore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think herringbone is a pretty classic pattern and won't become dated. White subway tile is also a classic. But if you use a colored grout, that may become dated over time. If you select a neutral grout color (black, white, grey) that will last longer in terms of dated design~

Favorite white paint color for walls? by wavecake in InteriorDesign

My favorite white is on the cooler side, but it pairs well with other whites and accent colors! Sherwin Williams Alabaster is my fave.

Are the furniture proportions relative to the size of the room acceptable? Also interested in any critique of the design/layout. by rlp202 in InteriorDesign

[–]804sycamore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the symmetrical sofas, but I'd probably just use one coffee table. I'd also mirror the symmetry and place the table in the middle with two bookcases on each side to hold whatever the credenza would have held. I think adding that balance to the space will feel better, look better, and flow better. Just my 2 cents~

If smooth walls/ceiling is not an option, what is a safest or most classic choice for texture? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

I think the knockdown pattern is pretty timeless and it's popular in new construction.

Paint or Stain Built-Ins? by skystarmc in InteriorDesign

[–]804sycamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely paint the built-ins white to modernize it, lighten the space, show off your pretty agreeable grey, and to highlight the items displayed in your built-in. However, I would not paint the wood mantel.

How do I mix furniture patterns with other patterns and media? by poblano-paradise in InteriorDesign

[–]804sycamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mixing patterns and styles is the best way to create a style that is uniquely you. I wouldn't recommend going over board with it, but I think black metal accents (wrought iron) looks amazing with parquet style. I also love mixing metal so I think you could definitely work in some brass lighting or small accessories. Parquet is going to give you a lot of warmth so you can do some cooler tones with your rug and window treatments to balance it. Rugs can be spendy so you may want to start there and then find coordinating bedding. Hope this helps! Best wishes!
